it's a better release date than tangled though isn't it?

Yeah I'd say so. Usually animations in the run up to Christmas have moderate openings, and very good legs, and then drop off significantly after Christmas, but Frozen is more of just a 'winter' type movie, so hopefully that doesn't happen.

Top 10 films at vue westfield stratford/London/harrow/Finchley O2 UPDATE 1

After 1 cinema, THG: CF is of course on top but has had a disappointing start. It is tracking behind Gravity and Thor 2 but the two Westfields might help this set the new record. Talking about Gravity, the film looks to plummet over 50% and maybe to under 100 showings if the 1st cinema is anything to go by. Thor 2 is also on track for a  fall around 45%. Philomena is holding on great again and looking to fall about 30% maximum. The Butler might also increase. The Counsellor, Don Jon, Captain Philips and Dom Hemingway [which hasn't registerd any showings yet] look like the big big falls. Parkland and the family starting solid- on track to hit the debuts of last weeks new releases. Doctor Who sneaking in at 10 for the moment

UPDATE 2

Catching Fire's start is somewhat underwhelming even though it has no 3D screenings. It recorded the 3rd highest opening since this started behind Gravity And TTDR but was only one showing ahead of gravity when you get rid of its 2D showings. This needs to hold on well to top the month overall. Gravity actually had a great hold on in the end with the first cinema giving a really misleading forecast. It was now at its record 38 2D screenings while the 3D screenings were still above 100. Thor also held on OK with a late boost in 3D showings. The Family And Parkland both opened solidly but will want to hold on better than most of last weeks releases. Don Jon and The Counsellor opened higher than the family and dom hemingway [which only kept 4 showings this week] also opened higher than Parkland but both the two new entries opened higher than this weeks major success- The Butler. The Butler climbed 4 places and added an extra 4 screenings in a fantastic week for the drama. Look for a great hold at the box office also. Philomena fell way worse than expected after the first cinema [nearly 50%] and the counsellor plummeted over 55%. Doctor Who which is only showing on Saturday [though there is the odd occasional screening on the sunday] sneaked into the top 10 with 24 showings, a great entry for a special. Next week should see THG: CF reign again though look for debuts about 70 for SMB, 55 for Free Birds, 40 for Carrie and 45 for TBMH.
