SchumacherFTW
I dunno about bombing CJohn, but it definitely seems underwhelming compared to stuff like Sweeney Todd which seemed to have a bigger opening despite its 18 rating.
Heretic
It's doing AWFUL in IMAX. The 14:30 show as it stands right now has 9 people. That's pathetic. It's still 3 hours to go until the showing, but I doubt it'll even fill up a quarter of the auditorium. The Avengers on the other hand, at 11am this morning in IMAX was 50% full, and tonight will probably be sold out once again. In regular showings, DS is doing alright though. The 9pm showing last night was like 75% full, but it probably won't make much more than £2m over the weekend, which is pretty bad.
The Dark Alfred
DS is doing bad. It might not reach my initial £2.2m prediction, which I though is the floor.
SchumacherFTW
How badly do you think Disney are kicking themselves for not locking Avengers into IMAX sooner?
Heretic
How badly do you think Disney are kicking themselves for not locking Avengers into IMAX sooner?Do you think cinemas can just drop a film if it isn't doing well? Or is it a fixed contract or something? The Avengers would be selling out all day in IMAX, and instead they have a film taking up the screen bringing in a few hundred pounds at most. Sure must be kicking themselves.
SchumacherFTW
The exclusivity deal thou art a heartless bitch. A similar sort of thing here was TF2 vs HBP in the states. HBP had an IMAX deal for nov 08, and TF2 had an IMAX exclusive deal for June/July 09 for 4 weeks. HBP came out 2 weeks after, and thus couldn't release in IMAX for a further 2 weeks thanks to TF2. It's the way IMAX has to work thanks to the limited number of screens.
The Dark Alfred
They can make deals however. Like Prometheus sweeping aside MIB3.
PhilipJ2001
We are surprisingly busy with the first show of Dark Shadows today here. Avengers has dropped massively on last weekend. The weather probably isn't helping (very sunny).
SchumacherFTW
Is it just those two that you're showing at the moment?
PhilipJ2001
nah we have salmon fishing in the yemen as well (which has been doing really well here actually) and mirror mirror and pirates on early shows at the weekend.dictator starts wednesday
Heretic
Dropped massively? It's so funny how we always blame the weather. Probably because it's been so unbelievably shit for weeks. It's doing well around me though...doesn't look to be off by more than 50%.I'm hoping for $65m-ish by Sunday.
Heretic
Wow at Dark Shadows though. It was looking bleak earlier on, but walk-ups have been HUGE! The IMAX show was close to capacity and the 15:30 show is over 50% full.
CJohn
Dark Shadows will have a very good OS run.

Heretic
If it stayed -45% for the whole weekend, that would be about $7.3m. That's great!Dark Shadows did really well tonight...but it'll probably still end up in 3rd. Edited May 12, 2012 by Heretic

Jonwo
As it's opening on Wednesday, The Dictator will likely be the film that knocks off The Avengers and will hurt APR although APR has outperformed expectations considering its lackluster performance in the US, must be one of the few US comedies to do better internationally than at home.Dark Shadows seems to be too quirky for audiences despite the Burton/Depp combo, shame really as it looks fun.
