But the movie still has chance to leg out since it is school holiday everywhere in Indonesia now, along with Christmas day and New year public holiday to come. That is actually pretty impressive, considering its OW number. WOM seems really good. I don't think the fact that the water clan was inspired by some part of Indonesian culture adds anything. I mean, that is still really cool, but it's not something that is relatable to most of us. And we didn't know that until after the film was released. Also, there will be no public holidays since Xmas and New Year fall on Sunday. Edited December 22, 2022 by catlover

kayumanggi
The Philippines has this Metro Manila Film Festival that basically cuts all international releases' runs and only showcases Filipino movies from December 25, 2022 to January 07, 2023. This means no Avatar: The Way of Water in regular cinemas until January 08, 2023. Luckily, it stays in IMAX during the said festival, but this is an expensive option for families.

upriser7
Going by numbers updated in this thread, A2 already seems to have done around 172Billion Dong in Vietnam which would mean roughly $7.3M USD. I looked at other big recent Hollywood movies and either most of them haven't done well there or A2 has overperformed. NWH only did $4.3M lifetime here...TGM around $1.2M...BP2 around $3.3M...JWD around $3.2M...Thor L&T around $5M...DS2 around $8.6M.
