Weekend Numbers (THG 33.5, AR 21.4, Titanic 17.3)

Recommended Posts

TDK and THG did something very similar to win 4 weeks, both sucked the buzz out of the releases that followed, it's noticable through watching other films tracking figures go down in both cases.

Wrath of the Titans, American Reunion and Titanic were greatly affected by THG. More than we think.

Wrong on so many levels, it's been years since a holdover in the top 10 has fallen more than 2%, in each case the drop was done by a family oriented film. Openers tend to tank though.

Isn't this THG's 3rd week at #1?

American Reunion's fatal mistake was advertising itself as the return of a franchise dormant for 8 years rather than a new adventure that could appeal to today's teens/twentysomethings and the franchise's old fanbase. They should have been more focused on trying to reel the 21 Jump Street audience in. Titanic's a three and a half hour movie that's been playing nonstop on TV for over decade. No real problem if it only re-opens to 17m or so.

We'll see. I've been right for the most part on THG after its opening weekend. .

But that's sort of what Scream 4 did (it didn't have as much focus on the nostalgia aspect or the original cast) and that bombed as well. I think it's just really hard for popular dormant franchises to become popular again if they're not a reboot.

American Reunion: 21.466 mill...however the WW debut was more than 40 mill as it did more than 19 mill internationally as well.
