Russia Box Office

It is also important because our distributors are always complaining that theaters underreport tickets sales. That theaters steal a fair part of grosses. Some believe that it accounts up to 30-40% of real ticket sales. The others give different estimates between 5 and 15%. But so far no one was able to prove anything.

Theaters usually underreport box office in China too. About 2300 out of 3200 theaters are installed with the national online tickets sale tracking system. And even in the thaters that have the system, as much as 10% of the box office for certain big movie can be stolen (by the theaters). There are 3 main ways of stealing (Hollywood films) box office in China: underreport (like a ticket sold at 100 yuan but only 60 yuan is reported), no report (tickets sold not through the electronic tracking system) and wrong report (tickets sold under the name of certan local movies but audience can use the tickets to see a hollywood movie). The worst thing in China, however, is that not only theaters steal the box office, but also the government. Usually the Sartf remove about 10% of the already underreported Hollywood gross by theaters to local films or the money was just kept by some officials. No one can really prove this. It is the govenment, they run everything, what can you do.

it is true, THR and Box Office had reported just now.

It's very disappointing, Russians disappoint me...What happened? I can't believe it :(It will pass Madagascar 2 but not much....$16.5m with 1860 screens and a very liked franchise? Russia box office is not impressive this year, maybe it's higher than 2011 (+28%) but no records, ridiculous....

With a 2.5 multiplier Madagascar 3 would reach $45m, slightly ahead of The Avengers and Madagascar 2, not bad but we could expect better, under $50m is disappointing for me given the popularity of this franchise..

There is still a chance Madagascar 3 wiil make close to $50m. For some reason opening weekend is deflated. Only 4.2 multipluyer is really bad even with working Saturday. The real question now is how much it will gross on Monday and Tuesday. But without daily numbers it's hard to say anything.
