WDSSPR, the Russian distribution joint venture of Walt Disney and Sony, has reached a new annual revenue record in rubles, exceeding a previous high in local currency terms set in 2013.

As of mid-November, the total gross of movies distributed by WDSSPR in Russia and CIS countries amounted to 12.4 billion rubles, or $189 million, local trade journal Booker's Bulletin reported.

The distribution venture's previous record in 2013 had amounted to 11.6 billion rubles, which corresponds to $177 million at the current exchange rate but was substantially more in dollar terms at the time as the ruble has lost nearly half of its value since 2014.

Zootopia (2.3 billion rubles), The Jungle Book (1.4 billion rubles), Captain America: Civil War (1.1 billion rubles) and Doctor Strange (991 million rubles), as well as Sony's The Angry Birds Movie (785 million rubles) and Inferno (579 million rubles to date).

At least Russia is still strong in local currency :) That would be good to see the Ruble gaining more values, at least 25-30% would have considerable effects on the BO. I feel 2017 will do just that, more or less :) Just in time for GOTG 2

My weekend prediction: 500 mln RUB or $7.8 mln

Kinometro is even more optimistic with 570 mln RUB or $8.9 mln for Russia only.

Last Potter did 433 mln OW and 551 mln RUB in 5 days.

It is amazing that it is actually selling more tickets than DH2. Ofc the drop in USD will still be big since DH2 made 36m. But maybe it can somehow match your average Potter movie, like DH1, with around 25m or so if WOM is good.

It doesn't sell more tickets than DH2, pretty strong inflation since then so it can gross more Rubles with less tickets sold.

Still, grossing 20m+ is perfectly doable :)

For reasons I won't give here the Ruble is likely to increase in value next year, maybe considerably.

So the Russian Box Office could make an impressive comeback, GOTG 2, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Spiderman Homecoming and Despicable Me 3 are likely to benefit greatly from that.
