lab276
It's weird, my bookmark doesn't have the update for Sunday. Talk about bizarre.
IndustriousAngel
News from Germany:TDKR seems to be down from estimates; still >1mil admissions since Wednesday are a success for a SH film in Germany.Intouchables is now over 8.5mil admissions in Germany, making it nr. 25 on the list since 1968 and nr. 12 since 2000. Next on its way to the Top 10 post-2000 are Finding Nemo, Ice Age 3 and Ice Age 2. Looks impropable atm but Intouchables is a favourite at open air screenings and those go on throughout August so expect very small drops or maybe even increases for the next 4 weeks, should be over 8.6mil by the end of August and Nemo is at 8.68 - fun race!Ice Age 4 keeps chugging along, less than 40% drop and might surpass 6mil admissions in the end. Intouchables spends weekend #30 on place 7 - outstanding! The upcoming weekend will be very interesting. TDKR will have good legs (yesterday my show at 8pm was nearly sold out); plus there are interesting openers: Brave (dubbed "Merida") and Ted (dubbed "Ted") will corner the market from different angles, those 3 will about kill everything else I guess. I'm especially curious about Ted, the comedy crowd is underfed and this might become a real breakout.
Rudolf
Merida will do Rapunzel numbers in Austria,Germany and Switzerland I just realized that would be $56m.NO Brave <<<< Tangled Edited August 1, 2012 by Rudolf
lab276
I'd be very impressed with that. Although isn't Rapunzel a German fairytale?
IndustriousAngel
I'm not yet convinced. There's little buzz; I would have gone with Wall-E numbers, let's say 500k admissions in Germany this weekend and then it depends if the story can generate WoM. It's hard finding a comparable Pixar film for summer holidays; with 500k admissions and a healthy multiplier (should be doable) it might reach 2,5 to 3 mil from then on, everything over 3mil I would consider a nice surprise. Rudolf
I'd be very impressed with that. Although isn't Rapunzel a German fairytale?that and I think most of us prefer a classic Disney-animation to Pixarbut Brave will do well here
IndustriousAngel
Wellll, presales for Brave are really low here atm ... now I know kid's films don't have that many presales but still, if I watch all those empty seats I get the creepy feeling that Brave might miss the Top 3 and stay behind IA4 :blink:Ted otoh is declaring war on Batman. Strong preview numbers.

redfirebird2008
If it doesn't outgross TDKs 29m total that would be awful Well the exchange rates in Europe are awful compared to 2008.
IndustriousAngel
Yep, I guess 35 million Austria + Germany combined is the lower limit but far from awful. That doesn't sound like much but superheroes are not that super here when it comes to boxoffice. 40 million would be really good, everything over 40mil is icing Just to put things into perspective: Avengers made 35mil in Austria + Germany. Iron man <10mil, Iron Man 2 barely over 10mil. Thor <20mil.
redfirebird2008
TDK made $34.8m in Germany and Austria with a much more favorable economy/exchange rate in Europe at the time.
IndustriousAngel
Yes, but TDKR had a really nice start. Admission-wise, TDK sold 2.8mil tickets in Germany and 0.4mil in Austria --> 3.2million admissions.TDKR stands at 1.2 million in G+A after only 5 Days and next weekend looks good too. Even a so-so multiplier should propel this over 3mil, maybe even 3.5. Add a bit of inflation and you have 35m
IndustriousAngel
omg if my theater is any indication then Ted is heading towards a massive weekend. ok today is opening day but it's selling thrice the tickets of TDKR where I had thought the weekend might be a head-to-head race. In fact it might even sell more had they put in an additional show, there's only front seats left.

IndustriousAngel
Hmm my theatre may be untypical, loads of students here (many US students too, non-dubbed is selling out), but I guess much nearer to 1 million than 500k admissions - in $, it might nearly reach 10mil Austria+Germany combined (TDKR did a bit more than 10mil last week)

IndustriousAngel
Keep in mind Superheroes are not that popular here. A nice comparison might be last year's "Hangover 2" which ended with about 4.7 million admissions in G+A (or about 48.5mil US-$) Edited August 2, 2012 by IndustriousAngel
