el sid
Most have been a really busy day at the theaters! It crossed the 3M mark (3.02M admissions) including yesterday and Jigsaw stands at 180k admissions after 5 days.
Aristis
According to MarkG FJG III stands at about 2,6M admissions after yesterday (Mon 450k, Tue 425k). I don't think it will reach 3M but it will pass the OWeek of the second FJG today (2,72M). The weather may have affected it. After Sunday, with a bad drop, it still would be at 3,6M+ admissions. Thor III opened with 170k, seems like a pretty big OD for a CBM. Maybe it reaches 250k-300k today and about 600k+ up to Sunday? Jigsaw is up to 220k.
miketheavenger
When I saw Thor yesterday, my theatre was packed. I'm not surprised all the movies are doing really well.

Giesi
FJG3 accumulated 2.898.065 admissions (€25.358.118) in its first week, 10th most attended first week ever, 2nd best gross ever. And it‘s only the 8th time that a movie reached 1mil admissions from Monday to Wednesday (6th movie to do that, RotK and TFA did it 2x)

It's funny how large the effect of ticket prices can be. FjG3 was expensive enough that the 25th biggest OW in terms of admissions is good enough for 8th in terms of money, with the opening week jumping from 10th to 2nd, so it was obviously benefitting a lot from ticket prices, also thanks to the fact that almost all big starters came over a decade ago, yet it still can't hold a candle compared to a movie like TFA, which was even more expensive. Would have been nice if FjG3 had been able to top 3m admissions for the week, but it is still a great number anyway.
el sid
According to the Thursday estimates from insidekino.de/forum Thor: Ragnarok seems to have solid but not totally overwhelming admission numbers today. And the South-West reports are pretty consistent with that. But Thor 3 can have a lot of walk ups, so I don't read too much into it. Probably surprising but the holds look very good including FJG3, Jigsaw and It. Edited November 2, 2017 by el sid
el sid
No first trend? Ok: #1 FJG3 1.1M #2 Thor3: 650k but in six days which is a little bit under the expectations #3 Jigsaw: 85k #4 The Little Vampire, Cars 3, It and The Snowman with each ca. 50k And some Thursday actuals (source as always Blickpunkt:Film): The new releases:Thor 3: 70k (starts in 612 theaters, overall good reviews but not stellar, often 6.5 or 7/10; Thor had 1.1M, Thor: The Dark World counted 1.4M total admissions) The Secret Man: 2k (163, mediocre and good reviews) -> 17.5k admissions OW predicted so far, underperforming Die Reise der Pinguine 2: ?k (142, quite good reviews) -> only 5k admissions OW Professor Marston and The Wonder Women: ?k (101, good reviews) Gauguin: ?k (60, mixed reviews between 4 and 9/10) The holdovers – really good holds yesterday: FJG3: 190k (actuals last Thursday 280k) Jigsaw: 15k (20k) It: 8k (11k) BR: k (10.5k) The Snowman: 9k (10k) – WOM obviously isn‘t that bad, and again, so nice admission numbers would have been possible with a better film... IndustriousAngel
I think Thor3 numbers are quite impressive - you have to realise that it's starting against a monster blockbuster; I remember few nights when my theater was a busy as today. FJG3 is having sellout situations and Thor3 shows are at nearly 50% (on bigger screens!) and Jigsaw is selling some seats, too. Haven't looked at family stuff but overall I'd say this is about as perfect a day for theaters as possible in this age.

Also interesting how many toy-based movies there are by now. Fack Ju Göhte 3 is on its way to well above 6mil admissions, and Thor3 might become the biggest grosser of the series so far (not yet locked, it will need at least decent holds to beat Thor2 with 1,4mil total). Jigsaw is doing fine, a respectable post-helloween hold! And Kingsman2, while dropping the hardest, has crossed 1mil total, not bad. Next weekend: The biggest opener is Bad Moms 2; the slot seems unlucky since FJG3 is still so strong in the raunchy comedy market and it seems a bit early for a christmas comedy anyway. But the first Bad Moms was a medium-sized hit (1,3mil total) so let's see, #2 for the weekend might be possible if Thor stumbles. Also starting: Suburbicon and Murder on the Orient Express - both with little noise, I guess Suburbicon is too US-centric and with the Christie adaption, I have no idea how much a draw her name still is - maybe the nice cast can make up for the outmoded genre. 2
el sid
Reservations for Bad Moms 2 looked very good for today (previews). And I‘m also curious how big and especially who will be the audience/target group for Murder on the Orient Express. Older and middle-aged people or the younger crowd or both? I would say that the crime novels of A. Christie are still well-known and popular here (which could in that particular case also be a problem; OTOH I also know the solution and I‘m still interested). And IMO this movie is a perfect choice to watch in theaters in the grey and cold German/Austrian November. What‘s for sure nice is that the reservations improved a lot for the preview shows today and not only in „my“ theaters - other reports from insidekino.de/forum say the same, namely that both films attracted a decent amount of people today. E.g. the mathäser added another evening show for MOE and Bad Moms 2 got the biggest cinema hall. Hopefully this continues . Both new movies get enough screens (released in over 500 and over 400 theaters) so that won‘t be a problem. And so far the reviews for MOE are pretty much in line with the US-critics which means they‘re ok or good. Insidekino.de predicts 1.4M total admissions for Bad Moms 2 (but I think that was before the reviews were released) and 700k total admissions for Murder on the Orient Express.
el sid
Some Thursday estimates from insidekino.de/forum (no school holidays this week and that‘s why the Thursday declines look more brutal than they will be over the whole weekend. The whole weekend holds will look better because of the higher multipliers): New releases: Bad Moms 2: 27.5k (released in 535 theaters, mixed reviews between 3.5 and 7/10) Murder on the Orient Express: 26k (420, some mediocre, some good and a few very good reviews) – not bad, not bad Simpel: 1.5k (170, mostly good and also some very good reviews) Suburbicon: 3.5k (162, mixed reviews between 4 and 8/10, overall better than in the USA) The holdovers: FJG 3: 58.5k (actuals last Thursday 190k) Thor 3: 26.5k (70k) Jigsaw: 6.5k (15k) 1
George Parr
First trend is up, big drop for FjG3, that's more like the 4th weekend of the second one: #1 FjG3 550k (now no.1 for the year) #2 Thor 3 250k #3 Murder on the Orient Express 225k #4 Bad Moms 2 200k #5 Jigsaw 65k #6 Hexe Lilli 60k 4
el sid
So MOTOE could - with a little increase - even become #2 . But I'm already pleased about the first trend numbers. And some Thursday actuals (source Blickpunkt:Film): The new releases: Murder on the Orient Express: 27k and 267k US$ Bad Moms 2: 22k and 221k US$ Suburbicon: 2.6k Hexe Lilli rettet Weihnachten: 2.5k Simpel: 2.1k The holdovers: FJG3: 50k (actuals last Thursday - with holidays in some states – 190k) Thor3: 28k (70k)
el sid
Since the estimates were pretty accurate yesterday, these are the Friday estimates from insidekino.de/forum: FJG 3: 194.5k Bad Moms 2: 70.5k – this movie was a little bit overestimated yesterday, could be the same today Thor 3: 64.5k MOTOE: 58.5k – cool if it holds and would be matching to the reservation situation in the theaters where I looked at it, e.g. in the mathäser the evening show was almost completely sold out without walk-ups, the medium-sized cinema hall was too small Jigsaw: 21.5k – that would be a big increase compared to yesterday It: 9k The Snowman: 8.5k Simpel: 7k – a good increase too Suburbicon: 4k The Secret Man: 2k
