Heretic
You can't compare a child's film with an adult one.I'm sure an adult would prefer Taken 2 to Mad 3, and vice versa.Anyway, Mad 3 will probably open on par, or even higher than Taken 2 in the UK too... Rudolf
I don't mean a generalisation as a whole, I just find it astounding that Madagacar and Ice Age are consistently beating the better quality animated titles.Quality is in the eye of the beholder. If you mean Pixar is better, that is your opinion. I grew up with Disney and Asterix. That are the ones I would prefer. Given the choice between Ice Age and Toy Story, I follow the rest of my country men.

Rudolf
^^either translate the movie titles or leave them as they are - this mix is making it very hard to realize what move is really meant.

Rudolf
the aimated Asterix movies were more successful in Germany than in France. For the live-action movies it is the other way round.

"Hope Springs" is showing fantastic legs, a medium-sized hit. MAD3 looks good, but it's trailing IA4 by more than 10mil. "Die Wand" opened last week in Austria and this week in Germany and made the Top10 with a good PTA (it's playing in less than 100 theaters). Again, this weekend has some strong openers, so the good October numbers will continue. "Paranormal Activity 4", the latest real-life Asterix, plus some local comedies and horror fare will compete for audiences and the race for #2 and 3 behind MAD3 should be a close one! With a healthy drop, even Taken 2 could stay #2 after its very good opening - the first Taken fell less than 30% in week 2 but I guess the curse of the sequel will take Taken2 down by more like 50%! IndustriousAngel
Among openers, PA4 seems to be doing ok on opening night and should beat Taken2 for the WE. Asterix on the other hand is in serious trouble. Truth be told, the real-life Asterix films all looked like shit had pacing problems, were boring and not that funny; I'm actually puzzled why they keep making them. Rudolf
They should continue making animated Asterix movies. If they could make one with CGI and 3D, that still looks like the original comics with all the jokes, it could be an enormous success. Problem with new generations of viewers is, that they won't get why a boxer named Cassius Ceramix is funny (hint: Muhammad Ali) Edited October 19, 2012 by Rudolf
