Dragons 2 had Summer weekdays helping. We'll see what winter holidays can add to Dragons. Would have rather seen it opening over easter, though. Next weekend, in terms of weather, looks amazing as well, so another fairly big drop is in store.

The biggest disappointment is probably domestic romcom Sweethearts which somehow managed to evade any Valentine's Day's business. Next weekend: The good news for holdovers is that there isn't a single big opener. The bad news is that weather stays perfect - so probably another bad weekend for the movies … 5
IndustriousAngel
horrible weekend coming ... we're dancing the admissions limbo atm and nobody seems to care. from an article in Austrian daily DerStandard: Quote Was also läuft falsch in Österreich? - derstandard.at/2000098188164/Was-steckt-hinter-dem-Besucherrueckgang-in-oesterreichischen-Kinos that's self-deception to the nth degree ... yep, we had a championship year, but that happens every 2nd year ... yep, some blockbusters were below expectations but we've seen such years in the past. Last year was - after the already bad 2017 - a futher steep drop and as mentioned, January brought a new all-time low. The situation in Austria is even worse than in Germany where some domestic successes dampen the decline. 😕 1
el sid
I agree. And they even "forgot" that the German team didn't even reach the round of sixteen... The estimates look indeed not promising and today it was pretty cloudy. Maybe the actuals are better. Interesting that "Der goldene Handschuh", the thriller about the serial killer, seems to be the only new release with decent admissions today, especially playing in only 135 theaters. IndustriousAngel
I find it really strange that nobody seems to care about the death of the movie theaters ... just compare it to France, where they put a lot of effort into putting as many customers as possible into their seats, (and that's despite the situation being much better in France anyway, afaik the French still buy double to thrice the tickets than the Germans or Austrians) 1

And now just wait until they can finally bury all of them. And I can already see the headlines at the end of the year about the incredible increase in adm. And they all will ignore that the year before was the first in like 27 years or so. And that probably will be because Disney releases Avengers 4, TLK, Frozen 2 and EP IX (Theoretically those movies should do something like 3.5M, 6M, 5M, 6M so 20.5M together, if Germany would have a cinema going culture those numbers would be more like 7, 12, 10, 12. Non the less I fear that those 4 will miss 20M together), But even those numbers would mean that the #1 movie of 2018 would only place fourth in 2019. Next weekend: Again, no really big openers. Neeson actioner Hard Powder should manage >100k for the weekend, but will be beaten by the fourth entry in domestic horse-girl adaption series Ostwind which should win the weekend with >200k admissions (those series always have a very reliable fanbase). A possible surprise might be horror movie Escape Room thanks to a popular topic but I doubt if it can go as high as Ostwind4; it might beat Hard Powder though. 5
