Ajbg
Difficult to say - admissions are (not much) lower, but with extra money from overlength it may end up at in the same region. In Germany they charge more if the movie is longer?
IndustriousAngel
In Germany they charge more if the movie is longer? yep. at my theater, it's +0,50€ for a movie longer than 110min, and half a €more for every 30minutes longer. A 3h movie ticket is 1,50 more than the standard one.

IndustriousAngel
well, it explains how the Hobbits could each reach nearly 100mil US$ in Austria+Germany combined ...
Samarus
In Germany they charge more if the movie is longer? Yes and it's the biggest bull****. I paid over 10 Dollars to see WolfOfWallstreet.

IndustriousAngel
What prediction for Qu'est ce qu'on a fait au bon dieu ? In Germany, it should come in somewhere around 100k admissions including previews ... maybe a bit better depending on weather. However, with these kind of movies, it's all about the legs, and I'd say, 100k admissions on opening weekend would mean 1mil total at least! "Boyhood" was the only one in my list that dropped <50%. Family fare is bound to take another hard hit with HTTYD2 opening this weekend, and let's see if T4 gets hurt too - it should stay easily on top in US$ but there's a slight chance HTTYD2 might win the weekend by admissions. Sligtht chance?HTTYD2 will be number 1 in admissions.
IndustriousAngel
Sligtht chance?HTTYD2 will be number 1 in admissions. Yep, first trend for the weekend: #1: HTTYD2 - 475 - 575k admissions (hard to predict since afternoon business is extremely prone to weather influences) #2: T4 - 360k (about -50%) #3: Qu'est ce qu'on a fait au bon dieu? - 160k as always, openers (#1 and #3) include previews (in many theaters, HTTYD2 had already very strong numbers last weekend) overall very strong weekend, good rebound from WorldCup numbers!
tupek
So HTTYD2 is opening to half million admissions? Not bad! The first movie did 1.5 million in total, right? I'm a bit of surprised because I didn't expect such a healthy opening for this sequel, given how a few selected animated movies do well in Germany.I just wanted 20 million dollars in this country for HTTYD2, looks like it is possible after all.
IndustriousAngel
The original HTTYD was very well received and did good on DVD/BD, so I'm not that surprised part 2 is doing so much better now. It's just difficult to say how good it will hold; my friend's 9-year-old liked it but his Ma found it a bit too violent and intense.
IndustriousAngel
Saturday update: Even better than expected; T4 drops only between 40 and 45% and "Qu'est ce qu'on a fait au bon dieu?" comes near 200k admissions - fantastic, a million is locked with such an opening and 2 million or more a real possibility. ("Intouchables" reached more than 9mil admissions from an opening about double as big, so even a golden screen - 3mil admissions - is in play for the french comedy, but Intouchables' was a miraculous run indeed)
