BO Germany/Austria: Dune first 2024 blockbuster (3mil admissions)

Recommended Posts

Apart from the Germany game on late Sunday the games on the weekend don't look all that interesting. Combine that with worse weather (or better, depending on how you look at it ;) ) and the weekend might not look as horrible as one could think. Without a really big start the weekend might not end up looking all that impressive, but at least some of the holds - especially for family movies - could be quite decent.

First trend is available, though clearly to be taken with a grain of salt for obvious reasons:

Warcraft 130k (-43%)

Alice "chance for 100k" (- ~30%)

Angry Birds 70k (-28%)

The Nice Guys 60k  (-23/47% depending on whether you count previews or not)

Money Monster 55k (-28%)

The drops aren't completely horrible, but it's just a vague trend so far. The total will be really low though.

TNG 50k -56% (w. previews/ -37% without)

MM 45k -42%

It seems like every film improved a little bit:

#1 Warcraft: 125k/955k (-46%, better than I thought. I mean it is in its third weekend and the target audience is very similar to the EM-football-fans so I expected a drop around 60-70%).
#2 Alice 2: 95k/540 (-32%)
#3 Angry Birds: 77.5k/1.200k (-20%)

#4 Money Monster: 47.5k/300

#5 The Nice Guys: 45k/185k
#6 X-Men-Apocalypse: 45k/675k

What a depressing weekend …

Next weekend: The Conjuring 2 should attract some business, maybe even enough to beat Warcraft. The other wide opener is Central Intelligence - while there's definitely room for some silly comedy, I doubt its potential. Overall business will stay poor despite rainy weather.

1. Trend is no Trend

After there were 27,3M visitors following football yesterday the Thursday numbers don't say anything trustable.

But Conjuring was 15% over Central Intellgence -  a Trend for the Weekend? Or frontloadness?

Warcraft passed 1M admissions (12th movie to do so this year)

And Mark_G from insidekino has the feeling - which means he predicts - that both The Conjuring 2 and CI will exceed expectations. The predictions were 130k for the Conjuring 2 and 150k for CI.
The actual Thursday numbers below are also a little indicator that both films will do better than predicted.
And the expected multiplier (from insidekino) is nearly 4 for both films (total = 4x this weekend+previews).

Central Intelligence started in 491 theaters and The Conjuring 2 in 339 theaters.

The actual numbers from yesterday/Thursday were:

The Conjuring 2: 16k
Central Intelligence: 14k

Demoltion: <1k

Warcraft: 5k (last Thursday: 20k, but no reason to worry considering the circumstances)
Alice 2: 5k (10k).

PS: If somebody may wonder why I don't post something in the following days: I'm on holiday for the next two weeks. I will look here as often as I can but it's a place (in Italy) with a very bad connection.
See you :).

Have a wonderful and less stressful time, Italy is always a great place to be on vacation.

Thank you very much! I'll do my very best :).

The Friday estimates (surprisingly good):

Central Intelligence: 64k
The Conjuring 2: 65k

Warcraft: 21k (not bad)

Money Monster: 20k (!)

Alice 2: 13.5k
The Nice Guys: 9k
X-Men: 7.5k
