JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Maybe the only reason is that they are too lazy.I hope they report numbers more frequently when Hobbit is is out.

FOX was perfect with Avatar. Why can't other studios do the same?

The Obon week surely inflates box office, let's wait until Monday to draw a conclusion.

I know, it was more of a hypothetical. Corpse, can tell us about the WOM?

Olive reported the correct number. There are a few factors to remember, though. First, this is Obon Week, one of the three strongest weeks of the entire year along with Golden Week and New Year. And second, every 14th of the each month, Toho offers 40% discounts at their locations, and since they're the biggest chain in the country, it's a significant factor. The best comparison is probably going to be Spider-Man 3. It opened during Golden Week and grossed 3.1 billion yen in six days. From there, it only had a multiplier of 2.3 due to it's first entire week being a holiday, just like The Avengers.Using a similar 6-day multiplier will probably be accurate once the 6-day total is known, but it's not possible to really project anything for The Avengers at this point. The opening day is strong, though.

What was SM3's OD?

Not known, but definitely higher than The Avengers. It's first 6-days in release are still a record.A rough projection would put The Avengers somewhere around 1.2/1.3 billion (mid teens) after Sunday. From there, it would get a multiplier anywhere from 2-2.5, giving it 2.5-3.5 billion ($30-45 million). That's a wide range, but opening day figures mean very little in Japan and there are so many factors to consider this time around it's impossible to make an accurate projection of a single day in release.

Please don't get me dreaming of SM3 numbers. The yen has appreciated by about 50% since then, we're looking at $87M

Spider-man 3 had bad WOM, and POTC3 cut its legs.I hope TA's legs are stronger than SM3.

SM3 only dropped 35% when Pirates opened, and SM3 actually had solid WOM in Japan (average a 3.5-4 rating on most sites). It's legs just look bad because it's first week was a holiday.

What kind of WOM are you hearing about TA? I just want 35M so it can hit 1.5B WW.

SM3 made 32M after its 10M Opening weekend, 4.2x multiplier from OW is week in Japan.
