I'm ready to bet they will make another movie about Demon Slayer, adding the 1 hour final to the first episode of the next season...

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK

4gyc-Di-Q-d.webp

Depending on Holds//

- 10% Drop ~ ¥14.87B Final

- 20% Drop ~ ¥14.78B Final

Work seems running out of stream but they will probably announce a last screening date like "ONE PIECE: FILM RED" (¥19.71B) which will boost Last and Late Legs

Mto-B5-Xu-d.webp

Anyways! Toei's "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK" is now Post-CoVid-19 longest screening Local Work after TOHO's "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train"

The Little Mermaid isn't going to come close to ¥5 billion after that poor second weekend hold, and if it doesn't recover almost immediately, is probably going to top out around ¥3 billion... The opening weekend was decent, but the total is looking to be borderline disastrous.

That's another thing... Some Disney films have managed decent/good openings, but their legs have been very poor (among the worst in the market now) and they end up with a disappointing/bomb-worthy total. As I said the other day (and many times before), it's like those with the most interest are mostly coming out for the opening weekend/week, but few others are interested afterward and repeats are basically non-existent, so they drop and drop and end their runs in under two months now.

This is, once again, a Disney exclusive problem in Japan, and it's gotta be because of Disney+.

If the big sequels mentioned above opened today, I don't think they'd avoid the same fate every Disney film is facing in the market right now. Their release dates are still unknown, I think, and probably a minimum of 2+ years away, so there's time to change their strategy in the market. They've gone 3.5 years (going to be 4 years+ if Indiana Jones also fails) so far without any hits though... can they go another 2 or 3 years before those films open?

The Japan box-office can still do well with Disney falling off like this, local films make up 60/65% or more of its business, but Disney faltering also keeps it from achieving the heights of the past since Disney was the second biggest distributor for over a decade and has since fallen out of the top 5 (7th I believe) for what's about to be four-consecutive years.

Spiderverse is doing solid but unspectacular, as is the case in many other international countries
