Knight Of The Zodiac (Saint Seiya: The Beginning)

¥120M Japan | $1.1M North America

Explanation regarding the loss -

$60M Production Budget. Can't imagining the loss Toei has acquired from this deal (Net Income of Toei already Forecast to fall 43% on Year/Year Basis)

Oh my... Did they really spend $60 million on a movie that didn't even make it past $1 million in the Japanese box office? Do I have that right?

It's a Co-production between Toei &Sony, where Toei invested vastly on Production &Sony kept Marketing &Distribution on their hands :(

that saint seiya film was just a piece of shit so not sure how anyone could've expected a different outcome, pretty much this decade's dragon ball evolution except with nowhere near the brand strength to fall back on

Eh I'm not sure. I'll judge that after it premiers at Toronto. Then Western Critics will see it and maybe it will build up.

Sadly the Venice premiere didn't materialize if not that would provide some awareness boost to the local Japanese. At this rate I am just hoping for an nomination if GKIDS can play the game well.

I am wondering about the Seat Capacity too.

Hmm I wonder...

The current ranking of seats on Mimorin for August 1st is this:

  1. 451758
  2. 251237
  3. 246284
  4. 112703
  5. 69620
  6. 51393
  7. 40623
  8. 33310
  9. 31537
  10. 29808
  11. 26898
  12. 20305
  13. 18769
  14. 17575
  15. 14416
  16. 14272
  17. 13123
  18. 12666
  19. 11541
  20. 9679
  21. 9408
  22. 8094
  23. 6944
  24. 6636
  25. 4499

Total of 1,513,098 seats. This is about half the Japanese theaters so.... about 3 million theater seats in total in Japan?

I imagine the lineup could look like this on August 4th on mimorin:

  1. 250,000 seats Kingdom III: Flame of Destiny:
  2. 200,000 seats: Crayon Shin-Chan
  3. 195,000 seats: Elemental
  4. 190,000 seats: Mission Impossible
  5. 180,000 seats: How Do You Live
  6. 120,000 seats: Transformers

On August 1st, there are 330,103 seats split between the 7th-25th place movies.

I think on August 4th, there could be 378,098 seats split between the 7th-25th place movies. That plus the top 6 here  is 1,513,098.

I gave some leeway for the potential for releases I did not know of.

But overall I think both Elemental and Crayon Shin-chan will have around 200,000 seats on mimorin and 400,000 seats in total. Probably enough to meet demand for both.
