The narrator of the film explains that the city of La Crosse, Wisconsin is plagued with young men who suffer from horrible drowning’s which the cause it blamed on the heavy drinking in the college town. However others believe that this is the work of a serial killer or a supernatural demon. The narrator goes on and says that only college males who are brown haired and athletic have drowned. The narrator informs the viewers that two NYC detectives came to the city to investigate and they discovered that smiley faces were on the rocks by the victims. Terror swept the city as many feared a serial killer or demon was lurking the river banks however as with most rumors and speculations it quickly disappeared. Life returned to normal, the drinking and partying resumed, and the 20+ victims were forgotten and become mere folklore. Until now…

The film moves to Trevor at his final day of high school. He and his friends are very excited for college. They discuss where they will go and what fun they will have this summer and next school year. Trevor is dating his high school crush Jessica. While Trevor is excited to be going to college he and Jessica are struggling with figuring out how to continue dating since they are going to two different schools. We are introduced to Trevor’s family and friends. We learn more about his relationship with Jessica and the film moves through his summer fun. We learn that Trevor is going to play football for University of Wisconsin: La Crosse and is hoping to become a doctor. His girlfriend is going to Carroll University located 3 hours southeast of La Crosse in Waukesha, Wisconsin, which also the city where Trevor grew up. The film then moves to Trevor moving into the dorms at La Crosse. He meets his two roommates, Jackson and Teddy and they immediately get along. The film follows Trevor as he goes to classes and parties with friends. We see his relationship with Jessica is failing apart and Jessica is becoming upset.

On one Saturday we see Trevor parting with his friends at a local bar. They are drinking heavily and getting crazy. Trevor decides to leave early because he has a test on Monday and wants to study a little. He leaves and begins to walk down the street to the campus. Suddenly, he becomes paranoid and begins to running panting. He tries to call on his cell phone but it is dead. He runs quickly and looks several times behind him. Suddenly he falls to the ground and whirls around. He lifts up his hands to block an attack. The camera moves the river and we see Trevor in the water and the water is bloody. Trevor struggles until he goes limp. His body floats to the surface and drifts down river.

Within two days it is reported that Trevor is missing the police are on the search from him. His friends as confused and his family are upset. After one month of nothing, the police finally find Trevor’s body, which is beginning to decompose. The funeral happens and the family grieves. The death shakes the family, friends, and the school. The police determine that Trevor accidently fell into the river drunk and drowned. Everybody accepts this except Jessica who believes that there is more to Trevor’s death.

Four months after Trevor’s death, Jessica visits with the family. After talking about college and other stuff, she tells the family her hypothesis about Trevor’s death. She says that Trevor wasn’t drunk enough or stupid enough to wander into the river. She also says that there are colleges and bars across the nation and none have such rates of drunk drownings as La Crosse. She says that she believes somebody murdered Trevor and the other students who were believed to have drowned. She asks them if they want to help her discover the truth behind Trevor’s death. The family at first refuses but after several days of Jessica persuading, Trevor’s dad gets onboard with Jessica. Trevor’s two roommates decide to help Jessica too. They gather information on past victims and discover the similarities. Trevor was athletic, dark haired, and smart. On a rock were Trevor entered the water they find a red smiley face with horns and the words “Evil Happy Face Men” written next to it. With their evidence they go to the police. The police reject it and quickly dismiss it. Jessica is upset and frustrated. They renew their search for several weeks but without success. Suddenly one night, Jessica is visited by Trevor’s spirit. Trevor says that somebody close harmed him and his soul can’t rest until the murderer is brought to justice. Jessica asks who the murderer is. Trevor says, “Go as a dummy…go as a dummy…go as a dummy” and then disappears. Jessica ponders over the words. She tells the other about what happened. Trevor’s dad says that what Trevor meant is that one of them has to go to the bars as an athletic college student to lure the killer. Trevor’s dad is too old and Jackson and Teddy gave up on the search a few days ago. Jessica volunteers. She dresses as a boy and goes into the bars. She drinks only a few drinks and acts drunk. She decides to leave the bar and head back to the hotel. On the way she sees two men following her. She texts Trevor’s dad to be ready to intervene and call the police if she is attacked. Trevor’s dad is seen watching a short distance away from a car. One man pulls out a bat and both men walk quickly toward her. Jessica begins to run. The men chase her. She pulls out her phone but it falls. She doesn’t have time to grab it because the two men are coming up too fast. She screams and runs in panic. She is tripped by one of the men and knocked out with the bat. She wakes up to find herself being held under the water. She screams and struggles. She suddenly sees Trevor’s ghost under the water and the ghosts of the other who have died. The suddenly rush at the attackers and throw them off of Jessica. Jessica pulls herself out of the water. The ghosts vanish. The sound of sirens fills the air. Jessica knows that it is finish. The two men gets up slowly and try to escape but are tackled by the police. The two men are revealed to be Teddy and Jackson. Teddy and Jackson reveal that killing college boys has been a sick hobby for both families. The police soon find Teddy’s and Jackson’s families and bring them to jail for trial and sentencing. In the dorm room they find weapons, photos of the victims and body parts. Trevor’s family and Jessica are at peace because the killings have ceased.

Release Date: 29 March

Running Time: 2 hrs 01 mins

Plot:

In the future, the world is a dystopia, and the City of Chicago is now split up into 5 factions, Amity [Peace], Dauntless [bravery], Erudite [Knowledge], Candor[Truth], and Abnegation [selflessness]. Each of them devoted to their principle, and each taking a part of running the city.

Beatrice Prior, is a member of the Abnegation faction, but despite her upbringing in the faction, she feels that she doesn’t belong in the faction. Being 16, she has to take the aptitude test, and then choose her faction, that she will stay with for the rest of her life.

The aptitude test for Beatrice is surprising, and she learns that she is Divergent, which means that she could fit into more than just one faction, and Tori, her test administrator, tells her not to tell anyone about it ever. Beatrice is highly confused at this, and Tori just tells her to choose wisely tomorrow at the choosing ceremony.

During the ceremony, Beatrice’ brother shocks everyone by choosing Erudite, which is a faction that did not get along with the Abnegation, and has been spreading lies about them. Beatrice then shocks everyone by choosing the dauntless faction.

Tris arrives at Dauntless and even before she arrives at their HQ her bravery is tested as she has to jump of a moving train to a roof seven stories up, and then immediately again off the building and into a pit. She volunteers first, and upon reaching the bottom of the pit she is given the chance to choose a new name, and she chooses “Tris.”

Tris makes three friends around now, Christina and Al from Candor, and Will from Erudite. She also makes enemies, Peter, Molly, and Drew from Candor. She is given a makeover by Christina, and she changes her self by getting new clothes, and a tattoo so that she can feel as if she’s left her old faction behind.

To become a full member of the Dauntless, they must complete an initiation process which is 3 stages long, and by the end of it only the top 10 will be selected, and the rest will be cast out of the faction, and forced to live as factionless people. Four is their training instructor, and Eric is the Dauntless leader that monitors their training

The first component of this is physical fighting, and Beatrice is severely beaten by Peter however she become stronger as she trains, and eventually triumphs over Molly who is equally as bulky, and challenging to fight as Peter. She beats Molly into pulp, because it is revealed in a flashback that she was sexually assaulted by Peter, Molly, and Drew the previous day.

When the ranking for Stage one comes in the bottom few are cut, and Peter comes in second to Edward, which prompts him to stab Edward in the eye with a butter knife, which causes him to have to quit, along with his girlfriend Myra. This bumps Peter up to first, and Tris up to fifth.

As stage two starts, Tris, and Four’s relationship starts to develop, and they grow much closer. Stage two is engaging in scenarios where they confront their greatest fears, which is vastly different both in form, and in effect on the intiates. However it is here that Tris’ divergence appears to set herself above her fellow initiates, and gives her a distinct advantage. Four figures out Tris’ divergence, and also warns her to be safe, and to stay hidden. Tris ranks very high at the end of stage two, and the distance between her and the second place initiate, Peter, is considerable. This prompts further jealousy from Peter, Molly, and Drew. Between the stages, Tris is attacked by Peter, Drew, Molly, and surprisingly Al, and hung over a chasm. Four however comes to her rescue as she is about to be dropped, and takes care of her.

After the incident Al begs Tris for forgiveness but is denied, and his fear of becoming factionless, and the despair over her rejection, leads to him leaping over the edge of the same chasm that Tris was hung over to his death. While most the faction sees this as an act of bravery, Tris sees suicide as cowardice.

In the days following the suicide, Tris, and Four’s relationship continues to grow, and she eventually is told by Four through the fear landscape, an advance version of the simulation in stage 2 which is used as stage 3 testing, that he was also a transfer from Abnegation, and that his real name was “Tobias”, and that his father was “Marcus” the mayor, and he transferred because he was being abused. Four’s nickname stems from that fact that he only has four fears. It is also around this time that Tris, and Tobias kiss, and admit their feelings for one another. However, in public Tobias is still cold to her, as he wants to prevent questioning, and potential claims of unfairness from the other initiates.

During stage 3, Tris also ranks at the top, and after the final test she is injected with a “tracking device” that all Dauntless have been injected with to “Keep them safe, and to help us find you if you go missing.” But in reality, the trackers turn everyone into mindless, brain-dead soldiers. However, Tris and Tobias both being divergent are not affected by the simulation, and work towards preventing the slaughter of Abnegation by the Dauntless army, formed by an alliance between the Erudite, and the Dauntless to rid the Abnegation from the city. However, they are caught, and they attempt to escape but Tris is shot in the shoulder, and they are captured. Jeanine injects Tobias with a new and improved serum which does affect the Divergent, and sets him off to work in the control room, and Tris because she is injured is not of any use to Jeanine, and is sent to be executed. Tris however escapes as her mother saves her, and they escape, but without Tobias.

When they are making their way to the safe house, Tris’ mother is fatally shot by the Dauntless soldiers as she gives Tris a diversion so that she is able to make it to the safe house, where she meets Caleb, Marcus, her father, and others.

Eventually, Caleb, Tris, her father, and Marcus, set out to the Dauntless compound to free the Dauntless from the mind control, and to rescue four. They meet Peter, who is not under the simulation, as the leaders have determined him to be of greater use when acting not under the simulation. However, Tris shoots him, and puts him under severe pressure, before he caves in, and reveals the location of the control room, but only under the condition that Tris take him with her. On the way to the control room, Tris’ father sacrifices himself in order to save Tris’ life, and allow her to reach the control room. Tris finds Tobias in the control room, and after an emotional fight successfully breaks him from the Simulation’s hold, despite Tobias coming very close to shoot her. Tobias then frees the soldiers from the simulation, and the group escapes from the compound, and boards a train to the Amity sector of the city where the surviving Abnegation have gone, seeking the peace that that faction affords them. The final shot is a faded highway sign, showing the viewer that the city is Chicago.

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: 27 November

Running Time: 1 hr 48 mins

Plot:

The movie begins; it takes place over the course of a week during the Christmas Court of 1172 at Poitiers during which we will see almost a character study of Eleanor. We see Eleanor, Alexandria, other women, and knights seated in a lavishly decorated sitting room with Middle Eastern inspired drapes, and ornamentations as was popular during that time due to the crusades. The opening shot if of them all laughing, and then we jump into a conversation on whether or not it is possible to have true love in a marriage. All the women are mainly obsessing over one knight, the handsome Sir Peter, who only recently had returned from the Holy Lands after a year’s duty serving in the court of Amalric I. In particular we see Eleanor, and Alexandria competing for him, and we see them having a silent conversation during which they agree to a friendly competition of sorts. It is evident very soon into the movie, that both of the women are in it to win it, and that the other women have no chance.

The next scene we see is of Eleanor, and King Henry II, who are laying out presents for the kids, and each other, and they engage in idle chatter; however it is evident from the tone that their relationship is a tumultuous, and strained one. Eleanor makes pointed jabs at Henry II, while he throws them back with equal force. Henry II then brings up the Aquitaine, and Richard, and John, which spites Eleanor, however she contains herself well enough, before politely, yet icily inviting Henry II to leave the room. He does, however not before adding some more fuel to the Aquitaine inheritance fire. Eleanor is left in the room, and she takes a piece of parchment, and quill, and furiously writes on it, drawing up plans it seems, however it is not known, what the plans are for yet, or who. This is the first time we see a slightly darker side that eventually becomes an integral part of the movie as we get to see Eleanor’s character as a whole.

The next scene cuts to a moment in the slightly frosty garden, where Eleanor, and Alexandria are having a little light hearted chat, and it is a light hearted scene as Eleanor and Alexandria both share tips on pursuing Peter, and they just have meaningless in general conversation. However, this scene depicts the incredible social skills of Eleanor, as she just effortlessly pulls everything off.

The next few scenes, shows a series of fun moments, and mostly lighter moments as we see the holiday season come to light, especially as Christmas is ever drawing near. We also see both Eleanor, and Alexandria put their schemes into action, however both of them because of unforeseen circumstances both do not achieve the intended results.

We return back to the Henry II, and Eleanor storyline as in one of the few more intimate moments between them, Henry II mentions land, and etc. again, which prompts Eleanor to furiously rise up. This time however, Eleanor does lose her temper, and she confronts him, and talks about how she prefers Richard over John, and how she thinks that Prince Henry is just being opportunistic the way that he’s trying to get more power, and possessions out of his father. She also yells about how the Aquitaine is hers, and hers alone, and that he will not touch it, because it is hers, and if she has to, she will ride down to Rome, to settle everything in front of the Pope, and in front of God, consequences be damned. Henry II is stunned for a moment, before he recovers, and gets right back into her face, becoming more, and more king like as he goes on. Eleanor unfazed just gets right back at him, until she forces Henry to storm out as she yells about his WHORE!

The next scene is of her manipulating, and coercing, Henry the oldest son, who craves some territory of his own to rule over, as he has many a horse, but little to give others as gifts of his "kindness", into attacking, and revolting against his father the next year. We see that the plans that she was drawing up the first time we see her and Henry spar over the Aquitaine to be invasion plans against his father Henry II. Henry is reluctant at first but eventually warms up as we see more scenes of Eleanor’s exceptional skills in manipulation.

During Christmas Dinner, Henry II and Eleanor play happy family. However, Henry blows things up when Eleanor begins to blatantly woo Sir Peter, during the Christmas feast, and they have a very public shouting match which leaves everyone very, very stunned. It is during this time that Alexandria makes her winning move on Sir Peter, and wins his courtly love, besting Eleanor. Eleanor already in a poor mood, becomes further enraged at this, however she is still too busy dealing with the King to deal with Alexandria.

We see Eleanor approach Prince Henry, and ask him to commit his cause to her, and to God, but he leaves her hanging. Eleanor tries to push, but the Prince is resilient.

The Christmas Court ends with a shot of the Alexandria, and Eleanor laughing things out in the end as they make up, and we see once again see Eleanor’s carefree, and wonderfully happy side, and just as you expect the credits to begin, it cuts to April 1193, and we catch a brief glimpse of Prince Henry, and Eleanor standing by his side looking very satisfied, before Henry gives the command, and his army situated on the top of a hill, charge down it, and the revolt against his father begins. The screen fades to black, and following information is shown: "Despite coming close, the Revolt ultimately failed after lasting 8 months. As a settlement, Prince Henry got a significant increase in his stipend" ; "Eleanor was imprisoned for her support of the revolt." ; "For the next 16 years." Then the screen fades to black, and the credits roll in.

Plot: The camera zooms over the post apocalyptic Chicago as Rogue (Emma Watson) voice narrates…..This is what remains of Chicago. When the Phylian army came to destroy earth they failed. Instead of securing safe inhabitances on earth, they unleashed a mutated virus I2V5 that killed 85% of humanity and Phylians which had not died in the battle. And of the survivors 14% were transformed into pale, hairless, and aggressive mutant humanoids. Our Chicago group of survivors discovered that we were all immune to the air strain of the virus however none of us were immune to the bodily fluid strain. Our group’s numbers quickly dwindled from 83 survivors to only 6 survivors. We desperately tried to discover a cure for the virus but we have only been met with disappointing results. Hong Kong

The camera moves slowly up a damaged building. Inside we see a young girl in a white dress writing on a sheet of paper. Around her are pictures of her family. She looks up at one and smiles. She folds the piece of paper and leaves the room. At the bottom of the stairs she opens the door to the outside and a gust of wind catches her long beautiful black hair. As she walks through the deserted street sea gulls fly over her. She walks up an over pass and she stands on the edge. The wind blows strong and she spreads her arms out. A white dove flutters by her; she looks at it and then closes her eyes and jumps. Her body lies on the ground and a blood stained notes reads, “My name is Jinghau Ming. I am a survivor. Besides the mutants, I am the only person in Hong Kong.”

Salvation

The movie opens with six people sitting around a table. They discuss what course they should take in dealing with the mutants. Luke says that the only course to take is to wipe out the mutants. Anna says that that is ethically wrong since the mutants are humans who are sick. Luke says that the mutants are not human at all. Luke pulls up a picture of a mutant and tells Anna that it doesn’t look human at all. He says that Anna’s tests are not ethical either since she is experimenting on them. Anna says that she is trying to help find a cure for them. Delstro says that he has enough of their conversation. He asks Luke how he would completely wipe out the mutants. Luke says that he and Pyro have begun construction on a missile that will eliminate the mutants with toxic gas. Rogue asks how they (humans) will survive the toxic gas bomb. Luke says that the gas is not toxic to humans but only to mutants. Anna exclaims that the mutants are human. Delstro tells Anna to be quiet. Delstro says that they will look for a cure for one more week and if they don’t find any they will unleash the bomb. Everyone except for Anna agrees. After they dismiss, Anna approaches Delstro. She says that she can’t believe that he will give Luke his way and that even Pyro is listening to Luke’s lies. Delstro says that he doesn’t like Luke’s plan either and that he will fight it but they most importantly have to discover the cure. Rogue walks up to them and kisses Delstro. Anna asks how Rogues baby is. Rogue puts her hand on her pregnant stomach and says that she is excited to have the baby. Rogue says that she and another Phylian, June are leaving to do research on mutant reproduction. Delstro says that he doesn’t think it is safe for her to go on a trip with less than a week before her scheduled due date. Rogue says that she will be fine.

We see Luke and Pyro working busily building the missile. Luke says that they will put a container of the gas in the center of the missile which will explode and spread the gas across the world. Pyro says that he always believed Luke was right. Luke asks if it is hard going against his girlfriend’s wishes. Pyro says that Anna has never really had much faith in him lately and he might consider breaking-up with her sometime when things return to normal. Luke laughs and says that Anna will have to stay with him because they will need to reproduce to rebuilding humanity after the bomb. They both laugh.

We see Rogue and June walking through the city. The city lies in utter ruin. June and Rogue talk about their past and share fun and sad memories about their past life. They suddenly hear a roar from behind a hedge. Rogue and June ready their guns and peek through. They see a mutant mother nursing a freshly born infant. The mother sensing their presence looks up and roars at them. June tells Rogue that the mother will not attack them because she is too weak from giving birth. Rogue says that the mutants can reproduce. She and June look at each other in amazement. Suddenly a male mutant leaps out of the brushes at them; it quickly knocks the guns out of both of their hands. It ignores June and leaps over Rogue. Rogue closes her eyes preparing for the attack. The mutant looks curiously at Rogue and then puts its hand over her stomach. Rogue stares in shock. A group of mutants walk up to them. The male mutant roars angrily at them and they retreat. The male mutant stands between the two girls and the group of mutants as they girls retreat back to their base in utter amazement and shock.

That night we see Delstro and Anna preparing the trap for the mutant test subject. When they reenter the lab, they see Rogue and June waiting for them. Delstro says that he thought they were going for several days on their trip. June says that they ran into a mutant mother who had just given birth. Anna says that it is impossible. Delstro says that it is not impossible if they are still human like. Rogue says that they have something else to say and it is really important. June says that they were attacked by a male mutant and it didn’t kill them but defended them. June tells them the entire story. Anna and Delstro look at each other in shock. Anna says that she will go tell Pyro but Delstro tells her that that is not a good idea since it will only give more reason for Luke and Pyro to release the bomb. They suddenly hear a roar outside. Anna says that they have a subject. June asks what specimen this will be. Anna says that it will be Specimen 124. June tells Anna to treat it as if it were one of them. Anna nods. We see Delstro and Anna busily working on injecting Mutant Specimen 124 with the cure. Delstro says that unlike the previous cures this will take a while to show results. Anna asks how long. Delstro says that it might take up to several hours. Anna puts her hand on her head and whips the sweat off and says that they have to hope and pray it works. Delstro nods.

Delstro walks outside and sits on a curve over looking Lake Michigan. He can hear the mutant roars in the distance. Luke walks up and sits next to him. Luke says that he found out that the mutants can reproduce and that he knows that Delstro is considering joining him. Delstro says that he just wants what is best for everyone unlike Luke who is a complete selfish person. He says that the mutants are human and can feel human emotion. Luke sarcastically comments that if Delstro’s people would have never attacked earth none of this would have happened. Delstro’s eyes flash and he yells that the humans started the entire war and that they are the ones to blame. Delstro says that their group was fine until Luke decided to show up and flip everything up side down. Luke punches Delstro and they fight. As they fight a group of mutants slips nearby. Suddenly one of the mutants leaps on top of Delstro. Delstro quickly shoots it. Luke and Delstro are soon surrounded by angery mutants. Luke says that he can totally see that the mutants are absolutely human. Delstro tells him to shut the f*** up. They are quickly engaged in fighting. A mutant leaps on top of Luke and pins him to the ground. Delstro shoots on of the last mutants and looks at Luke pinned. Luke shouts for him to help him. Delstro lowers his gun from the mutant. Luke screams for Delstro to shoot. The mutant prepares to bite, just as the mutant is about to bite Delstro shoots. Luke rolls the mutant off of him and he looks at Delstro. Delstro says that he is not a cold man and he leaves.

When Delstro walks inside of the building, he is quickly approached by June who asks what happened. Delstro says that he ran into a group of mutants. June says that Delstro has to come quickly because Rogue is giving birth. Delstro and June quickly run into a room where Rogue is. Rogue is lying on the bed and Anna is standing next to her. Rogue gives birth to a baby boy. She holds the baby smiling. She gives Delstro the baby and he kisses it. She asks him what they should name it. He says Alstoy which was Rogue’s father’s name. The group smiles in joy.

Meanwhile Pyro and Luke prepare to launch the missile. They drive it out to the launch pad where the humans had previously during the Phylian invasion had launched nuclear missiles at the spaceships. After they finish setting the missile up they hear the sound of a group of mutants approaching. Suddenly out of the darkness a massive band of mutants attacks them. Pyro quickly leaps in the car and speeds back to the base. Luke stranded from the cars fights the mutants with his machine gun. A band of mutants breaks off and follows Pyro. Pyro reaches the base and tells the others that a huge band of mutants is attacking. He says that they must know that they are threatened by the missile. He says Luke was lost in the attack. The group hears the sounds of the mutants trying to get in base. Delstro tells June to transport Rogue and the baby into the panic room in the basement. Rogue tells them to be safe. Delstro kisses Rogue. Delstro, Anna, and Pyro walk to the top of the base and look over the parking lot outside. Hundreds of mutants flock the lot trying to get in. Anna tells Pyro that if he and Luke would have never planned the bomb this would never have happened. Delstro says there is not time to argue. He tells that he has a plan. He tells her to go and see if Specimen 124 is stable. Anna leaves.

Downstairs Anna walks into the lab. She sees that Specimen 124 is gone. She turns to run to tell Delstro and when she turns around there stands the mutant. She grabs pulls out her gun. The mutant tells her that he will not harm her. He introduces himself as Sam. She falls back and exclaims that the mutant is cured. He says that they need to give this to the other mutants. Sam holds up the bottle of the cure. She says that he must come with her.

Delstro and Pyro start a truck. Anna and Sam run up to the truck. Anna shouts that the cure has worked. Pyro says that he can’t believe it. Delstro smiles but says that since the cure has worked they can continue with his plan. Sam asks what is plan is. Delstro asks Sam since he still looks like a mutant to go distract the other mutants while he, Anna, and Pyro head to were the missile is. He says that they will remove the gas container from the missile and replace it with the cure. Anna asks about Luke. Delstro says that Luke got what he deserved. Sam leaves and the others zoom off.

When they reach the missile set, they find the mutants and Luke gone. Pyro quickly removes the container and replaces it with the cure. Sam radios in and tells them that the mutants have broken into the base. Delstro asks how they could do that. Sam says that a mutant unlocked the doors and broke in. Delstro says that the mutant is Luke. Pyro says that the missile will launch in five minutes. They quickly race back to the base.

When they reach the base they find the outside empty. Inside they can hear the mutants rampaging. A mutant suddenly burst out of the window. He roars at Delstro. Delstro says, “Luke!” He and Luke engage in a fight. Pyro and Anna rush inside of the base and begin to kill the mutants along with Sam. Anna gets to the panic room and finds it still secure. Pyro says that they only can hold off the mutants for so long. Sam opens the panic room and the three enter. Rogue asks about Delstro. Anna says that he is fighting with the now mutant Luke. June grasps. Sam says they should be safe in here when the missile launches.

Outside Delstro and Luke struggle furiously. Luke’s physical powers are enhanced because of the virus. He easily hurls Delstro around like a rag. He leaps on top of Delstro to kill him when a massive explosion lights up the sky. Delstro tells Luke that he has lost. Delstro stabs the distracted Luke with a knife. Luke gasps for air and falls over. The sky quickly turns dark with heavy storm clouds. A curtain of rain pours on the earth. The rain is red colored from the cure. Delstro radios for the other to come out and see this. Thousands of mutants emerge from the surrounding buildings and stare at the red rain. Rogue embraces Delstro laughing with joy. Anna says that the struggle is over and it is time to rebuild humanity. She and Pyro embrace. June smiles at first and then sees the now human Luke lying on the ground. The group goes quiet. June kneels done and closes Luke’s eyes. She tells the other that he will have a proper human burial. She says that he did what he thought was best for humanity. The others nod. The camera zooms up above them and we see thousands of now humans standing all over the top of the roofs of Chicago. The camera zooms farther and we see that the clouds are quickly covering the earth. The screen goes black.

Plot:

Meet Bobby, a 10 year old snobby boy, living in Monaco. The movie is shown partly through Bobby’s POV, and features the two voices in Bobby’s head that guide him in his decision making. They are shown as two jelly bean shaped type things, the red one is called Pip is Bobby’s rational voice in his head, and the blue one, Pat, is Bobby’s snobby, bratty voice. The movie opens with Pip and Pat looking out through Danny’s eyes, and we see Danny sleepily walking into a sleek modern looking dining room, and his mum asks him what he would like for breakfast, and Pip gives a reasonable answer of French Toast, while Pat gives an outrageous answer, of Bacon, Sunny-side up eggs, Fresh Scones, Hand-seeded jam, and etc. Those two fight, and chase each other through the layout of Bobby’s brain, a semi-complicated design, as Bobby is still only 10 years old, but all around you can see evidence of construction, as the designs get more complicated as Bobby is growing. We also see doors marked with labels, just as “Boring Math”, and “Video Game Cheats”, which store Bobby’s memories, and knowledge. We see an incoming blob of memory floating around [Picture blob of water in space], and Pat drops to the ground, and shouts “Pip! Incoming Rogue Memory!” And Pip attempts to stop, and drop, but is going too fast, and slams into Pat, pushing the both of them into the memory.

They are pushed into a video game memory, about a cheat for unlimited ammo in “Sahara Redemption: 2”, and Pip and Pat groan as they see this memory, and with Pip grumbling “Not another Video game memory….. Remember last time? We almost got hit by that flying thingy…” “It’s called a drone, idiot.” Replies Pat. “Oh, how was I supposed to know?” replies Pip. “Oh, maybe because WE LIVE IN THE MIND OF A VIDEO GAME OBSESSED CHILD?” replies Pat, and at that point the two of them start fighting, and wrestling on the ground, but a bullet whizzes by them, and they stop immediately. The get up off each other, only to see another bullet coming right at them, and they both scatter, and try to avoid the bullets, until the memory runs its course, and the two of them appear back in Bobby’s mind. They collectively sigh, and then hear the voice of Bobby’s mum asking, “Bobby? What do you want? We haven’t got all day.” This sets them off again, and they start chasing each other again, before Pat gains the upper hand, and smashes Pip with a brick, dazing Pip, allowing his choice for Breakfast to be chosen. Bobby suddenly replies, “Bacon, Sunny-side up eggs, French Scones, Hand-seeded jam, and etc….” His mum is slightly taken aback, “Okay, Honey, I’ll get the chef to get that for you.” She turns away and says under her breath, “I swear he’s bipolar, he asked for simple toast yesterday….” Pip and Pat are very indignant at this comment.

The next scene cuts to Bobby riding in the car, with his school bag right beside him, and the car stops, and he waits, until the door opens for him, and he gets out, revealing that he has been riding in a Black Rolls Royce Phantom, and he rushes to join his group of friends at the entrance to a Fancy looking school building, called “The Princess Grace Preparatory Academy” and enters.

The next scene cuts to an assembly in the school auditorium where Prince Rainier is being introduced by the Principle as His Serene Highness, Princes Rainier IV of Monaco, and etc. etc. et.c, who is speaking about Social Responsibility, and the encouraged role of young people in Monaco and the World’s society, and Bobby is tuning out as he dozes off, and we see Pip, and Pat having an argument about what Bobby should do after school, Pip is arguing for Bobby to finish his homework and then go waterskiing, and Pat is arguing for Bobby to just skip the homework and just go waterskiing. This gradually turns into a heated argument as whispers turn into shouts, and all the while Prince Rainier’s voice is still droning on in the background, but in French, the actual language of Monaco. Bobby begins to stir, and as he tosses a bit, and turns, Pip and Pat are getting thrown around in his head, and the loose bricks, and mortar, and equipment used to build Bobby’s mind also get thrown around as Pip has to duck and roll to avoid a flying wheelbarrow full of mortar. In the background we hear Prince Rainier end his speech, and bid everyone good day, and les etudients all jump up, and rowdily try to file out of the auditorium, but the teachers and staff stop that from progressing, and instead a bunch of impatient students have to wait their turn as the auditorium’s dismissed a few rows at a time.

Then we see Bobby’s father in his office [the audience doesn’t know this at this time] being interrogated by A hooded man, and being increasingly more and more pressured for [what appears to be money, and something else, this is in context of the interrogation, and never mention outright], and Bobby’s father is refusing. Then we cut to Bobby’s POV again, as he approaches the office holding his completed homework papers in his hand, and he as he picks up on the argument, he begins to approach more slowly, and cautiously. As he reaches the door, he takes a very tiny peek inside, and is alarmed by what he says, and just as he is about to gasp, and say something, and hand holding a chloroformed towel, suddenly covers Bobby’s mouth, and Bobby slumps to the ground unconscious. We here Pip, and Pat, now in an increasingly sleepy tone, and Pat says as his voice begins to trail off, “Oh, look what you done. If you’d LISTENED to me and didn’t INSIST on homework, we wouldn’t be in this……” and Pat is knocked out as well.

The next scene is completely black, and we only here Pip and Pat’s groggy voice at first, before Bobby’s eyes open slowly, and we see a very blurry image of an airplane’s cargo hold, before it finally focuses, and standing in front of Bobby is the Hooded man, and his accomplice [who was the one who chloroformed Bobby], and he screams where is he, and as he demands to be free, and as the scene draws out, we see a very funny dialogue as Pip, and Pat depending on who won their fights dictated Bobby’s often contradictory messages, which drives the Hooded Man insane, as he tries to threaten Bobby to be quiet, and let him continue on with his standard bad guy spiel. So, instead the Hooded Man, brings out a camera, and a laptop, and suddenly after a few moments of tinkering we see Bobby’s father’s face on the screen, and Bobby shouts, ”Daddy!”, and there is an emotional moment of father/son reunification, but then the Hooded man covers the webcam, and Bobby’s father shouts, and suffers an emotional moment. Then the hooded man says, “Mr. Creed, if you want to see your son again, then I expect the money to be there, where we discussed in 24 hours. Not a second longer.” And the hooded man, takes a timer, and dramatically flips in on, and the clock displays 24:00:00 for a second, before ticking down to 23:59:59, and so on. “Oh, and don’t forget to bring the extra something, or the SEC might come with a some very interesting questions, oh, and as an added incentive I just might slip, and your son might suffer a fall. From 10 000 meters.” We hear Bobby and Pat’s voice scream, “HEY MISTER, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I AM NOT FOR SALE, YOU, YOU, YOU, DUNG HEAD, POO FACE!!” And the hooded man turns around, “Why, You’re Bobby Creed, 10 years old, address 17 Princess Anne Avenue, phone number 84950394, and originally from New York. Why, Bobby, I do know who you are, I know exactly who you are, that’s why I had my assistant, waving at a black clothed figure standing guard outside the door, take you with us. We’re going to have such a lovely time together, aren’t we not? Well I’ll have to be going now, but enjoy your stay, Bobby….”

Then we cut to a fancy car driving out of the Prince’s Palace at Monaco, and we see a black clothed man, Jean, quickly run back to his car, and peels out, tailing the car. We then see a separate black clothed man, John a CIA agent, that Bobby’s father called in favours to come help him out, standing in his office. Bobby’s father gives him instructions about locating Bobby, and that he was on a plane last time that he saw him. At this point he has a slightly more emotional moment, before calming himself down, and regaining a steely composure. He then talks about how the Hooded Man working for what he believes to be wealthy man because he had information about him, that no ordinary person would ever have gotten their hands on. He talks about how the Hooded Man wanted him to deliver to an apartment on a side street of Monaco. [#1039-14 Rue Jardin] and the amount was €150 million, Euro, and a Picasso painting, which is a very upper class ransom demand. He also tells John to come by tomorrow morning, as he’ll have his and a PI’s research on who’s behind this tomorrow, and to ask his secretary for the package.

Meanwhile, the plane is landing in Milan, and we once again see Pip, and Pat chasing each other around, and arguing about whose fault it was for landing them in this mess, Pip’s for suggest to do homework, and then getting captured, or Pat’s for making all those insensitive comments, driving “Mr.Hoodie” even more crazy than he already was.

We then see John, typing at a computer, searching up the address #1039-14 Rue Jardin, and going through pages, and pages of results, and cross-referencing various, things, all the while as his computer goes beep, beep, beep, beep, beep as more and more results come in, and John is getting progressively more, and more tired, and he drinks more and more coffee we see the coffee cups pile up, until, John notices something, and suddenly jumps out of his seat, grabbing his jacket, and hurrying out of his hotel room door.

Back in Bobby’s dad’s office, we see him frantically going through his computer, and dragging files from desktop to a removable hard drive, and also frantically shredding, and then incinerating with a lighter papers. He finishes with his file copying, and unplugs the hard-drive, and gives it to his PA, whispers some instructions along the lines of Family Vault, Switzerland, and what not. We see Bobby’s Dad rip out his computer’s hard drive, and then hold it up to a magnet. We also see him unpack a brand-new identical computer, and plug it in replacing the old one. He calls the same PA, and tells him to destroy the old computer, before leaving the room. We see the PA take the computer and the last shot is a lingering shot of the packaged hard-drive containing the copied files sitting there on the counter.

Meanwhile back in Milan we see Bobby getting shove roughly out of a private jet [Think Bombardier Global 6000], and on the back of the plane we see a Red coat of Arms with a letter R embossed as the monogram. He is loaded off into the trunk of a waiting luxury car, and whisked off into the bustling city. We see Pip and Pat grumbling about injuries, as they have cartoon like gauzes, and bandages on them. Both of them are screaming at each other “IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!” and attacking each other, the car hits a bump, and we see Pip and Pat get thrown up, and then fall into a heap on each other. Back in the front of the car, we see the man with the hood open up a telephone and say, “Buon Giorno, Mio Duca. Io hanno il bambino, Lui attualement è a Milano. Non, Lui è in salvo. Si, Io compredo. Si. Si. Si.” Which translates into “Good Morning, My Duke, I have the boy. He is currently in Milano. No, he is safe. Yes, I understand. Yes…. Yes….. Yes…..” And the person on the other end hangs the phone up, and the man in the hood frowns for a moment, and puts the phone away.

We cut to Pip and Pat floating around in the back of the car again, and a memory blob is approaching them, and they try to swim away, but they hit it, and get sucked in. We hear Pip grumble, “Hope it’s not a video game memory again.” The scene changes, and we are back in the plane again, and we see the hooded man’s accomplice standing guard over Bobby. “Oh little Bobby, how the mighty have fallen. And soon your father will too.” Bobby’s Pat voice forces him to say something really stupid, and the accomplice frowns, “Aren’t you a feisty little one? Well, when your father fails to rescue you, I will take particular pleasure in pushing you out of the plane. Oh, I can see it already. Little Bobby scattered everywhere!!!” Bobby whimpers almost, and now Pip’s voice of reason, forces Bobby to try to reason with accomplice. The accomplice looks confused by continues on, “His Serene Highness has already promised that I could take care of you, and your bastard father. You recognise me?” The accomplice removes his hood, and Bobby just shakes his head looking confused. “I suppose you wouldn’t” the accomplice huffs, “but, anyways, your father pushed me out of his company, your father brought me to financial ruin, all because I found out something I shouldn’t by accident. I wasn’t going to tell anyone, but HE RUINED MY ANYWAYS, A COLD BASTARD. I CAN SEE YOU’RE THE SAME, THE WAY YOU TOY WITH ME WITH YOUR BIPOLAR WORDS! LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON, THEY SAY, AND SO IT WILL BE, YOUR PUNISHMENTS WILL BE EQUAL AS WELL!” Bobby just shakes in the corner a bit, eliciting a smile from the accomplice, “Oh, I see I’ve got Little Bobby scared now, have I? Is little Bobby Wobby scared? Remember, Little Bobby Scattered Everywhere!”

The memory ends, and the scene cuts to John stopping by the Bobby’s Father’s office. He asks if Bobby’s father is in, as he has to talk to him, but is told that he is out, but that the secretary will leave word. John also asks for his background information files on the research that Bobby’s father and a PI have already done when the extortion started to happen.[but to the secretary he just asks for a package] The Secretary looks at the counter and sees two boxes, and picks up one of them, and gives it to John. John takes it stuffs it in his coat, and leaves. We see the second package on the counter, and on it says “To John. Private and Confidential.” There is a weird minor motif in the music as the audience realises that the wrong package was taken.

We see the fancy car again, zipping along the road, and now we see John getting out of the office, and getting ready to go into his car, and he catches a glimpse of a fancy standard[flag] attached to the car and immediately takes off, and he doesn’t notice that he cut off Jean, who angrily waves his fist at the car, before taking a breath of relief as he hasn’t lost his target yet. Little do they know they are both tailing the same target.

Next we see that Bobby shoved roughly into a warehouse, and left to him own wits and we return to Pip, and Pat and their non-stop complaining, and bickering about this entire situation. We suddenly see the door open after what feels like a long time of confinement. , and Bobby rushes towards the door, only to find the door promptly slammed in his face, and at his feet lies a block of stale bread, and some water. With a note attached saying “Enjoy.”Pip and Pat start arguing over whether or not to eat the food, as Pat thinks that it’s too disgusting to eat, and Pip thinks that they’re lucky to get food anyways. So, hesitantly, Bobby reaches for some food, puts it in his mouth, chews, and swallows, while the next moment he’s ripping the food apart, and then again, trying to get all the crumbs off the floor and into his mouth. Then Bobby in his effort, bumps into the door, and it just swings open. It was unlocked. Bobby scrambles out, and into the daylight, of a Bustling Milan. He walks around confused for a moment, as Pip and Pat complain about “Foreign Sounds”. Then Bobby just starts running, and running. Bobby eventually finds a café close to the warehouse, and orders something, and sits down. People around are giving him strange looks for his slightly dishevelled appearance, and the fact that a 10 year old is in a café by himself. He is slowly enjoying a simple dish, but a complicated drink order, when there is a huge commotion coming from the direction of the warehouse. They had figured out that Bobby was missing, and Pat and Pip both say “Crap” at the same time. We see a series of Vespa mopeds scatter the crowd all searching, and screaming that he couldn’t have gotten far. We hear a buzz of confused Italian in the background, and Bobby tries to hide behind the Café fence. Most of the Vespas pass Bobby without stopping him, except the last one who does, and Bobby freezes

Back in the warehouse the accomplice is getting a lashing by the hooded man, as he all but screams at him yelling, “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KEEP WATCH OVER HIM, AND YOU DO WHAT? YOU LET HIM GO!!!!! HOW COULD YOU, I TRUSTED YOU, AND YOU LET HIM ESCAPE.WHEN OUR EMPLOYER HEARS ABOUT THIS HE WILL GO BESERK. WHY AREN’T YOU OUT THERE FINDING HIM?” The accomplice says something about already sending people, but that just prompts the hooded man to shout at him further, as HE SHOULD BE DOING THIS HIMSELF. The accomplice at that just kind of almost shakes in the corner before hurriedly scurrying away to get on a Vespa to find Bobby.

The person who found Bobby was the accomplice, and Bobby quickly scrambles into the café, while the accomplice quickly rushes in. Bobby rushes up the stairs to the first floor of the café, with the accomplice following. They then go onto the roof, and we see a 5-10 minute epic roof chase scene, and about halfway in we see the accomplice call in reinforcements, and soon we have the hooded man and a throng of lackeys chasing Bobby. Bobby slips, and falls off the ledge of a roof, which prompted all the others to try to catch him before he falls to his death, however they miss, and as they all slam into each other they fall off the roof as well. One suited man catches Bobby, and quickly shoves him into a car, and gets in. Then we see the others who are currently getting arrested by the police, however the hooded man gets away. The other suited man gets in as well, and slams the door.

Inside the car we see Bobby throwing a tantrum, and demanding to know who they are, and then we see Pip knocked out, and Pat calling all the shots. The two men, Jean, and John give an explanation, saying that John was working for Bobby’s father trying to find him, and Jean was tailing the same suspect, and they actually attacked each other, but eventually figured out the truth, and started to work together. Bobby asks where they are going, and they say that they are going to arrest the rest of the bad guys, and Bobby can tag along if he wants. And then they’re going to return you to your family.

We see a scene in the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, and as they walk from the public area to the private area, we see the Palace surprisingly in disrepair. We hear the hooded man, explaining to his boss what happened, and he gets punched for his insolence, but a familiar voice [noted by Pip and Pat], that is the man’s employer eventually admits that they still have the dirt on Bobby’s father, and that it should be enough. Then Jean and John burst into the room, and we see the Prince of Monaco, Prince Rainier IV, and he gets promptly arrested, and so does the hooded man, even as they try to struggle and make a run for it. We get the understanding that the Prince had fallen onto hard times, and that he’s desperately trying to get money, and funds to continue his extravagant lifestyle. The scene ends with a shot of a wailing Princess of Monaco.

The next scene cuts to Bobby getting reunited with his family, and it is an emotional moment, before Bobby’s father asks if he would like a present to deal with the trauma. Then in true Pip and Pat style, those two who were just having a peaceful moment, start erupting into arguments again, and as Pip chases Pat, the movie ends and cuts to the credits.

POST CREDIT SCENE: Bobby’s father gets arrested for committing fraud, by John, who found out because he got the wrong package, and that the research material actually got sent to Switzerland instead, not the incriminating files. And fin.

Garrett stays hidden until the marauders leave and he then wanders aimlessly. He is found by a wandering man, Maze (Winstone), who is one of the leaders of the Heroes’ Guild. Maze promises to protect Garrett and says Garrett’s parents were members once. Garrett agrees to travel with Maze. Meanwhile Theresa is questioned by the marauders, who want to know about her family. The marauders are then hushed by the arrival of a shadowy figure, covered in armor and a mask. The figure (Serkis, who provides the voice and motion-capture aspects for the character) says that Theresa has the power to see beyond her eyes and uses magic to rip visions out of her head. Theresa falls to the ground, covering her eyes, which are bleeding profusely. The figure says they’ve learned all they can. The marauders ask about Theresa and the figure says to leave her, either she’ll perish or she’ll thrive.

Garrett arrives at the Heroes’ Guild with Maze and over several scenes we see him become acclimated to the culture of the Guild, learning many forms of combat as well as intellectual subjects. He learns about the history of Albion, which was ruled centuries earlier by the Archons, a powerful bloodline of magic. The Archons faded when they were corrupted by the influence of the mythical Sword of Aeons, the source of their power. The Chamber of Fate in the Guild commemorates their initial conquest of Albion. He also befriends a few other children guild apprentices, including Whisper, a young dark-skinned girl his age from the South Islands, who also becomes a playful rival, and her brother Thunder. We also see bonding between Garrett and Maze and Maze tells him a story of one of his mother’s legendary exploits. We are introduced to the Guildmaster (Feore). He takes note of Garrett and gives him advice on how to live up to his parents’ reputation. After these scenes, we jump forward to ten years later, with Garrett (Hemsworth) now 21, he and Whisper (Jones) completing their final trials. The Guildmaster oversees a ceremony where he and other apprentices are promoted and later Garret and Whisper talk about their plans for the future. Whisper aims to head towards the Witchwood. Garrett decides to return to the ruins of Oakvale to pay his respects. Later, Maze informs Garrett that a company of bandits has taken control of the region near Oakvale and insinuates it could be the same group responsible for its destruction. This reinforces Garrett’s desire to go back.

Garrett returns to Oakvale and meditates in the ruin of his home. He then sets out to learn more about the bandits, who are led by Twinblade (McCann). After getting some information, such as the bandits somehow managing to evade all attempts to catch them, he sets out to locate their main camp and manages to find it. He infiltrates the camp and surprises Twinblade in his tent. Twinblade is amused, denies being with the group who destroyed Oakvale, and immediately has Garrett surrounded, though he chooses to fight Garrett alone. The two duel and though Twinblade is bigger and stronger, Garrett uses trickery to subdue his opponent. A female voice calls for him to stop. It is Theresa (Clarke), a sash tied around where her eyes would be. This stuns Garrett and Theresa is able to resolve the situation, saying that Twinblade had nothing to do with Oakvale’s destruction. Instead he saved her from dying alone in the Wilderness. After Theresa defuses the situation, she and Garrett talk alone where she explains (with narration accompanying short flashbacks) how after her torture blinded her, Twinblade found her on the brink of death. We see that as she grew her dreams focused into becoming visions of the future, which explains how the bandits can predict every attempt to find them, and how Garrett was able to find them since Theresa wanted the reunion to happen. Garrett understands that the man who and ripped visions from her head is the enemy he seeks. When Theresa says she catches glimpses of the figure in her dreams and saw him recently near Bowerstone, Garrett decides to go there and Theresa says she will go with him.

Theresa bids farewell to Twinblade and says she still hasn’t repaid the debt of him saving her. Twinblade replies that it is the opposite, that she has saved him and his men many times over and that his men will come through on their debt. Garrett and Theresa then set out for Bowerstone, with a couple scenes showing them traveling and talking. We learn that in addition to having prophetic dreams, Theresa has the ability to tap into The Will, which is what people in Albion call the source of magic. The two arrive in Bowerstone, which is a prosperous merchant town ruled by Lady Elvira Grey (Atwell). Garrett has no idea what to do now but Theresa assures him that instead of forcing matters, they should watch how things unfold and let the right path reveal itself. So Garrett simply acquaints himself with the town and eventually learns that an unknown person is hiring mercenary companies to raid villages in the area. Hearing that Orchard Grove is threatened, Garrett decides to go. Theresa accompanies him. At Orchard Grove they find that the few dozen defenders are outnumbered by over a hundred marauders. Garrett volunteers his services and helps the defenders plan a way to drive off the attack. The marauders attack the walls but are driven off by Garrett’s leadership and skills. Garrett then launches a mounted counterattack that forces them to retreat. As the marauders retreat, Garrett sees that their leader has a strange spiked helmet and Garrett flashes back to the leader of the Oakvale attack who killed his father. Afterwards Garrett interrogates a prisoner about their leader but only learns that the man with the helmet (now called Helmet for easiness) is the representative their employer sends to lead them on missions. Theresa uses magic to read the prisoner’s mind and says he knows no more. Garrett asks Theresa to try and see the masked man in her dreams, but Theresa replies it doesn’t work like that: Her dreams come to her, she doesn’t seek them.

The two return to Bowerstone and find that Garrett received an invitation to meet Elvira. Theresa warns him to be cautious. Garrett is taken to meet Elvira, who is very charming and cultured. After she thanks him for his help and flirts a little, Garrett says the troubles will continue since the marauder leader is working for someone and he’s been doing this raiding for over a decade. Elvira understands his concerns and says she would be very grateful for his further assistance in protecting Bowerstone. She suggests he visit the Witchwood, where many swordsmen gather at the Arena, to see if others know more. She also hints that if he wins further glory, there’ll be more occasions for the two of them to meet. Garrett returns to Theresa, who says that she only has feelings of caution and darkness from her dreams. Garrett insists that he must follow any lead.

They go to the Witchwood with Garrett seeking out the Arena, but Theresa convinces him to delay, saying her dreams indicate caution is best. They instead camp overnight in the area, bonding more as Garrett talks about how Maze became a substitute father for him. The next morning they witness a traveler being attacked by wild creatures and Garrett intervenes. They discover the traveler is an archeologist who was traveling to deliver some findings to Maze at the Arena. Garrett says he can take them to Maze and the archeologist plans to go to the Guild for research. Theresa says she’ll go with him, telling Garrett that she doesn’t see a path for her in his near future. Garrett is hesitant to separate from his sister but she chides him, saying he used to always avoid her when they were little. Garrett continues to the Arena and delivers the archeologist’s findings to Maze, who is happy. Maze congratulates Garrett on his accomplishments and says that he has the status to try his hand at the Arena tournament, the current one being sponsored by the legendary Hero Jack of Blades. Garrett also encounters Whisper at the Arena, with her having entered the tournament. She says the tournament is seeking pairs and asks Garrett to join her. They drink and swap tales for a bit, showing how good close friends they are.

We see the Arena tournament, with Jack of Blades (Serkis), a man with a strange mask and armor, initiating the ceremonies. The tournament goes through in a montage fashion, with Garrett and Whisper combining forces to defeat a number of challengers, from creatures to other swordsmen to summoned demons. After the last round, Jack of Blades says there can be only one winner so they must fight one another. We see a fast and ferocious fight between Garrett and Whisper, which ends with Garrett disarming his rival. Jack tells Garrett he must finish her off, but Garrett refuses to kill her. Jack gets irritated and says Garrett must then prove himself again and summons a trio of Balverines and sics them on Garrett. Garrett is tired but does his best and takes down two, but the third knocks him down but Whisper is able to get up and attack it to distract it. She gets badly wounded as a result but this gives Garrett time to recover and finish the last Balverine off. Jack teleports to the Arena floor and says Garrett is the winner and shows very promise talent. Jack then teleports away and Garrett carries an unconscious Whisper to a doctor’s tent. As the doctor works on Whisper, Maze and Garrett talk about Jack of Blades. Maze says Jack is ageless, being around since the time of the first Archon and appearing and disappearing for decades at a time. Maze tells Garrett that Jack was testing his abilities and his personality. Maze relates a story about a mission he went on with Jack, saying Jack is very powerful but also a double-edge sword.. Later Garrett visits a recovering Whisper and Garrett says he is returning to Bowerstone and asks Whisper to let his sister know.

Theresa and the archeologist arrive at the Heroes’ Guild. The Guildmaster meets them and recognizes Theresa as her mother’s daughter. He guides Theresa around the Guild, telling her about her mother, and takes her to the Hall of the Fallen, where statutes of fallen legends stand, including her and Garrett’s mother. Theresa suddenly experiences a violent vision showing the sack of Oakvale again, people toiling in a prison, and the shadowy figure who tortured her looming over her and we see it’s Jack of Blades. The scene then cuts back to the Guildmaster kneeling over an unconscious Theresa. After recovering, Theresa explains what she saw though the Guildmaster is hesitant to believe it. Afterwards we see the archeologist get called away on an errand. That night, Theresa has a vivid vision where she sees Jack of Blades wandering the countryside, finding various old items, before he finally looks into the camera and says “I see you too.” Theresa wakes up in a cold sweat.

Garrett returns to Bowerstone to find its situation precarious, with Elvira having been kidnapped while on a diplomatic quest. Garrett takes a small company of guardsmen to track the bandits down and rescues Elvira. Elvira is grateful and says Garrett is becoming more famous and powerful every time they meet. The two have some flirtatious talk before Elvira says the marauder problem is growing worse, with many villages plagued. Elvira wants to unite Bowerstone with other villages to defend them all. She says the marauders know this so they captured her, and the leader she describes is Helmet. This makes Garrett determined and he tells Elvira he will help her cleanse the region of the marauders. Elvira smiles and says she knows she can count on Garrett and kisses him on the cheek.

Back at the Heroes’ Guild, Theresa is sketching the items she saw Jack of Blades with in her vision. The Guildmaster recognizes some of them as old artifacts from the Archons’ empire and is starting to believe in Theresa. He says the archeologist would know more about them but he’s left for parts unknown. Whisper and her brother Thunder arrive at the guild and give Theresa news about Garrett. Theresa tells them about her visions of Jack of Blades and Whisper wants to get the news to Garrett immediately. Theresa is unsure since they don’t know Jack’s plan so rushing ahead could be trouble. Whisper insists Garrett needs to know and says she’ll find him. Thunder says he will help Theresa find the archeologist. The Guildmaster gives Theresa some advice to not passively observe her visions. He urges her to “act, not react, and you can make the future rather than witness it.”

Garrett is given command of a company of guardsmen and they are sent to reinforce a town that Helmet’s marauders are poised to attack. They help drive off the marauders, inflicting heavy losses. Garrett and Helmet briefly fight, Helmet taunting Garrett for being even weaker than his father. Helmet says Garrett’s mother will be ashamed to call him son, using the present and future tenses instead of the past. Helmet then retreats, Garrett pondering his meaning. Afterwards Elvira arrives and there is a huge celebration where the leaders of the town and other nearby villages pledge loyalty to her. Garret and Elvira look at one another during the party and she motions for him to follow her. They go to a secluded spot and after some flirty talk Elvira kisses Garrett and the two make out and grope for a bit, getting close to starting for home plate before Elvira cuts it short, leaving as Garrett looks infatuated with her.

We see Theresa and Thunder traveling in the wilderness. Thunder isn’t talkative but is curious about Theresa’s visions and Theresa is able to get him to talk a bit about himself. They reach the last known location of the archeologist and find his camp in tatters and signs of a struggle.

Elvira is now coordinating the alliance between Bowerstone and the other villages in the region. Garrett is praised as the regional champion. She has him lead an attack on a town she claims is supporting the marauders and it surrenders. One of the prisoners claims to have a message from Helmet and tells Garrett that if Garrett wants revenge he must go to Bargate Prison, where he’ll find not just Helmet, but also his mother, who is alive. Garrett is in disbelief. That night at Bowerstone he has trouble sleeping when Elvira comes to his room and he tells her of the message. She says that with his growing abilities he can accomplish anything. The two kiss again and this time Elvira pushes things along so that they do go all the way. Afterwards they lie together and Elvira says he must go if there is any chance his mother lives. The following day Garrett prepares to leave when Whisper arrives, bearing Theresa’s news. Garrett concludes that Jack must be Helmet and asks Whisper to go with him to free his mother. Whisper wants them to go meet up with Theresa and Thunder but with Garrett set on going to Bargate Whisper agrees to go with him. Elvira gives Garrett a map of Bargate, showing secret paths into the prison.

Theresa and Thunder are able to track down the goons who captured the archeologist and free him after a short battle. The archeologist says they were taking him to Bargate Prison. Theresa shows him the sketches she made and he recognizes them as tools the Archons used in a ritual to find the Septimal Key, which unlocks a portal that barricades the realm from the Void, a dimension outside the world. He says he actually gave some of the items to Maze, who said he would take them to the Heroes’ Guild. That night, Theresa has a vision of Bargate and finally goes beyond seeing and pushes herself into the vision (in which her eyes are undamaged), walking up to the prison and through the main doors to see Garret in chains in front of Jack of Blades. Jack again notices Theresa and says she is still the same frightened girl whose mind he ripped open. Theresa, angered, fires a burst of magic at Jack that knocks him off his feet due to the surprise. She strides over to him and places a hand on his head and experiences a surge of visual data showing what Jack wants, a sword burning with power. Theresa then severs the mental link which ends the vision, waking herself up. This rouses Thunder and Theresa explains that not only is Garrett in danger, she knows what Jack wants. From the description of the sword Thunder realizes it is the Sword of Aeons. Theresa says they need to get word back to the Guildmaster, but they also need to help Garrett. Thunder says it will take too long to bring help from the Guild, but Theresa says it wasn’t the Guild she had in mind.

Garrett and Whisper arrive at Bargate Prison and decide to infiltrate at night. As they wait they talk. Whisper has noticed how Garrett looked at Elvira and seems a bit jealous. Garrett says Whisper is his oldest friend and he’ll always be there for her. They then infiltrate Bargate using Elvira’s map and find a sealed section, inside of which is Garrett’s mother. He releases her and they have a tearful reunion when she recognizes him and he says Theresa lives too. The three then try to escape but they are detected by guards. Jack of Blades shows up and is glad Garrett has appeared. He uses magic to freeze Garrett and his mother in place but Whisper is able to escape. Jack tells Garrett he has fallen perfectly into his trap, saying that he needed Garrett to first become powerful. He says that he plans to seize the Sword of Aeons, which gains its power from the bloodline of the Archons, and says that Garrett’s mother is of that bloodline. He adds that he will take control of Albion, as his people did before the Archons, with Elvira as the humane face of his rule. Garrett realizes that the marauder menace was a way for Elvira to show leadership and get other towns to join her. Jack says that Garrett’s been allowed to roam free to gain power needed to fuel the sword, but now he can’t have Garrett loose and has his men lock Garrett up as he disappears into the ether with Garrett’s mother.

Whisper is a fair distance away and uses magic to open a communication portal with the Guild and gets in touch with Maze, who tells her to wait for him to arrive.

We see Garrett locked in a cell, observing how the guards act. He uses these observations to escape his cell and start a prison riot. He gets a weapon and tries to escape but is soon cornered. However suddenly alarm bells sound: The prison is under siege! Armored men use ladders to scale the walls and take out the guards. Garrett is unsure of the men’s intentions, but then their leader storms into the entry courtyard: Twinblade. He tells Garrett he had a favor to pay. Theresa is with them and we get an infodump as she explains what she found out and Garrett combines that with what Jack said to get a good picture of Jack’s plan. At that point Maze appears with Whisper, saying that Whisper was able to summon him. Garrett is glad Maze is here since they need to act fast, but Maze suddenly betrays them all with a stunning spell. He says he can’t let that happen as he puts on a helmet, the spiked helmet worn by Helmet! He goes to Theresa and says he’ll be needing her for the next step and grabs her, but she briefly breaks out of the stun to grab him and yanks thoughts from his mind and sends them to Garrett where they appear as rapid images. Maze backhands Theresa and then teleports the two of them away.

The stun wears off and everyone is pissed at Maze’s betrayal. Garrett says the images Theresa gave him showed an old decrepit abbey with some strange symbols that look like the Archons’ glyphs. They aren’t sure where that is, but Twinblade says they need to find someone who does. Garrett says they’ll need to pay Bowerstone a visit.

Maze and Theresa arrive at a tall cliff with a ruined abbey in the distance. Theresa tries to persuade Maze to let her go, saying Garrett looked up to him as a father. Maze says he’s gone too far to stop now, since Jack will be sure to kill him if he falters. He tells Theresa that she is just as powerful as her brother, even more so because of her visions and connection to The Will, and says she was the one who is needed for the next part of Jack’s plan, being not just of the Archons’ blood but one with sight to pierce the veil of the Void, and it will hurt.

Garrett, Whisper, Twinblade, and Twinblade’s men quickly storm Bowerstone at night and subdue the guards who try to resist. Garrett and Whisper confront Elvira, who admits she was to be the face of Jack’s rule over Albion, the beloved figure the people would blindly follow. She says Maze has gone to Hook Coast, where one of two remnants of the Archons’ empire remains, the other being the Heroes’ Guild compound. She tells Garrett that Jack fears him and that he can defeat Jack and take his place as the most powerful being in Albion. If he does that, then the two of them can rule Albion together as lovers. We see through her mannerisms, vocal tones, etc that she is trying to lull Garrett with seduction magic (explaining how he fell for her earlier) but this time Garrett fights it off. Elvira shouts she won’t give up her power and tries to fling a knife at Garrett but Whisper catches it and flings it back at her, which kills Elvira. With that issue resolved, the two meet up with Twinblade to talk options. Garrett says Whisper should return to the Heroes’ Guild to tell the Guildmaster everything while he and Twinblade go rescue Theresa. We then see a scene with Garrett and Whisper as they prepare to go their separate ways. Whisper is sorry Elvira turned out to be just using Garrett but Garrett says it’s his fault he got duped by Elvira’s seduction. He thanks Whisper for always being there and the two hug and there’s an awkward moment of tension before they split. We then see Garrett and Twinblade riding for Hook Coast as fast as they can. There is a scene between then where Twinblade talks about how Theresa became a surrogate daughter for him and he will do anything to protect her.

At the abbey at Hook Coast we see Maze beginning preparations for a ritual, Theresa magically bound to a pillar. She asks why he follows Jack and we learn that when Maze was younger Jack saved him from certain death, a poison that remains in his body. Only Jack knows how to keep the poison at bay, so Maze follows Jack in order to stay alive, since he fears death. Theresa understands his fear but says it drives him to do things he is supposed to stand against. Maze says his choice is made. He begins the ritual with the items the archeologist unwittingly found for him, chanting in an old language as ribbons of energy encircle the abbey. They then stab into Theresa, causing her to scream in pain as the energy radiates outwards from her. This opens a small portal out of which drops the Septimal Key. Maze in a command teleports it away (presumably to Jack). He tells the wounded and barely conscious Theresa that soon it’ll be over.

At this point Garrett and Twinblade arrive. Garrett says he knows now that Maze killed his father and has been raising him out of guilt. Maze nods, saying part of him hopes Garrett can stop Jack, but he cannot just let it happen. This leads into a thrilling 2-on-1 fight with swordfights and magic galore. Maze is very strong and injures Garrett, but before he can get in a killing blow Twinblade gets in the way and takes the strike instead. This snaps Theresa out of her stupor and in a sudden burst of anger she shrieks and blasts energy outwards that knocks Maze off his feet, sears his body, and cracks the foundations of the abbey. This gives Garret the ability to recover and he takes the fight to Maze, who, weakened, can’t stop him and gets a mortal wound. After he falls, he says that he’s no longer afraid. He says Garrett has freed him, Jack will now go to the Heroes’ Guild, and then he dies. Theresa rushes to Twinblade’s side and says she can try to heal him, but Twinblade says he is done for and she must save her strength for the fight to come. He then dies as Theresa hugs his body and sobs. Garrett embraces her and the two have a quiet, sad moment in the ruins of the abbey.

Whisper arrives at the Heroes’ Guild, reunites with her brother Thunder, and warns the Guildmaster. The Guildmaster begins preparations to defend the Guild, but they are soon interrupted by Jack’s arrival with a small horde of minions. As the minions fight the members of the Guild, Jack finds the Guildmaster and easily disables him with magic. The Guildmaster says Jack has underestimated Garrett and Theresa’s strength, to which Jack replies he hopes those two are just as powerful as the Guildmaster wants, since that will only make him stronger when he uses their blood to fuel the Sword of Aeons. Jack has the Guildmaster stuck in stasis as he drags Garrett and Theresa’s mother with him to the Chamber of Fate.

Garrett and Theresa arrive via teleportation near the Guild and quickly move to it as the battle rages. Theresa says she sees Jack in her mind in the Chamber of Fate so they make haste for there. They get to the Chamber and Jack is happy to see them, saying that his revenge on the Archons will now be complete, as the first Archon over a thousand years ago stripped him of his status as demigod, and only now has he learned how to restore it via the Sword of Aeons. He uses the Septimal Key to open a portal that drops the sword into his hand and he says he will show them its power, making their mother kneel before him. Their mother tells them how much she loves them, just before Jack slits her throat with the Sword, making the sword pulse with power. After some bitter words between Garrett and Jack the final fight begins, with Garrett and Jack duking it out as Theresa tries to use magic to aid her brother. Garrett puts up a great fight but Jack with a partially powered Sword is incredibly strong and gains the upper hand, disarming Garrett. Theresa then out of desperation has her mind leave her own body and implant itself into Jack, making him convulse as we see her inside his mind directly confronting an avatar of his mind with magic. Jack tells Garrett that if he strikes Jack down he will kill his sister as well, but then Jack says “do it now” (implying his sister has temporarily gained control). Garrett quickly grabs the Sword and stabs Jack, the power evaporating Jack’s body in a flash. He then rushes to Theresa’s limp body, pleading for her to be all right since he can’t lose her too. After some seconds of silence, she stirs, her mind having retreated back in time. Garrett is overjoyed and hugs her, then helping her to her feet. They look at the Sword of Aeons and wonder what to do with it, since they are of the Archons’ blood and the Sword was their symbol. Theresa says it is a powerful but dangerous tool, with as much ability to harm them as to aid them, since the legends say it corrupted the last Archons. Garrett ponders for a minute and then casts the sword back into the portal, along with the Septimal Key. This causes the portal to reseal itself.

With the battle over it is time for clean-up. The Guildmaster congratulates Garrett and Theresa on stopping Jack and saving Albion from his scheme, before going to oversee repairs to the Guild. Whisper appears and Garrett goes to talk to her. They’re relieved that things are now ready to settle down. Whisper says she and her brother are going to return home to the South Islands for a time, to reunite with family and see if her people there could use some help. Garrett says he’s always liked travelling and promises to stop by. Whisper kisses him on the cheek and says he better before leaving to go with her brother. Garrett then goes to find Theresa, who is in the Hall of the Fallen in front of the statue of their mother. She says that she won’t be staying, that she needs to go and learn more about the world and its mysteries, so she can really use her powers to get involved with it. Garrett says it’s a dangerous world out there to be alone and Theresa, smiling, says that they’ve both proven they can stand on their own and besides, Garrett has an island chain and special someone to visit soon. Garrett laughs at Theresa being able to know that already. He says that their mom and dad would be proud to have seen them come this far, to which Theresa replies that they are. The camera zooms out from them in front of the statue before things fade to black.

This book keeps the secrets of the universe and leads the carrier to the old and forgotten planet Elysium if he wants to. They say that Elysium makes a man more powerful than any other in the galaxy. Due to his heroic acts he was elected as the next Walker after the first died.

Galaxy pirates chased him to sell the book. Now a spaceship of the United Races discovered his signal and picks him up. Aden thanks General Isaac which he already knows from former battles. He gives him the coordinates of the pirate ship so the UR Vicus, that´s the name of the ship, search for the pirates. After one day they find the ship but there are no sign of life. So a team flies with a transporter to the pirate ship and finds only dead people on it. The ship itself is pretty much destroyed there was fight not long ago. The team returns to the UR Vicus and reports. General Isaac thinks of another pirate ship who did this but Aden disagrees. But that doesn´t matter for Aden so he leaves the UR Vicus with a hunter-class ship.

The next step on his never ending journey is a planet with only one city on it: Oluma. Its a good place to rest. For the last three months Aden flees from the pirates from planet to planet. Every day and every night he carries the book. He never let it back in a room or something else. Aden doesn´t know anybody in Oluma but he´s welcomed like a friend. The population of Oluma is an open-hearted race and not part of the United Races. So they are resistant to corruption which spreads in the high council of the UR. One week Aden can live in peace on the planet but then three spaceships appear in the orbit of Oluma. They want them to hand Aden over to them. The ships are galaxy pirates, its pretty rare to see more than one pirate ship together not fighting each other. The government of Oluma asks Aden to leave the planet as soon as possible. They will prepare for defense. As Aden wants to leave with his ship he suddenly hears explosion from everywhere. As he leaves the surface and enters the orbit the sees that there are no galaxy pirates anymore but giant battleships of an unknown race. In between there are the splits of the pirates ships. The unknown ships shoots everything they have to the surface destroying the entire city and ending a whole population. After they´ve finished with their work they search for survivors and wipe them out too.

Aden returns to the main base of the high council of the United Races on Verus. The Walker wants to talk with the high council about the unknown ship and the happenings the last few months. But the council doesn´t hear to what Aden´s saying. They ignore the fact that a planet got wiped out even if it wasn´t part of the United Races. Ilyria Niosis is the president of the council, she´s a beautiful woman and knows Aden for a long time. She was part of his crew when he was a captain of the UR fleet. They were good friends until Aden became the Walker and Ilyria became part of the high council. Only a few years ago she became the president and was thrown into the mire of corruption. Everybody bribes each other for more power and influence in the United Races. Ilyria tells Aden everything when they are alone and Aden understands that she can´t help him. But he warns her that the unknown ships will come again and one day even the United Races aren´t safe anymore. Ilyria thanks him and says goodbye then she returns to the council.

When Aden wants to leave Verus again he notices that someone is following him. He stops the man and asks him what he wants from the Walker. The unknown man tells him that Aden should turn off from the United Races and choose the right side. Aden doesn´t know what the man means. He tells Aden that he should remember the three ships from the orbit of Oluma. “They returned” he whispers to Aden before he leaves. He also gave him a sign of the unknown race. Two wings crossed by a snake. Aden knows this sign but he can´t remember where he saw this the last time. He goes to the giant library and searches in books for the sign. After hours of searching he finds it with fear in his eyes. The sign belongs to the race of the Dominion. The Dominions were the ruler of the galaxy thousands of years ago who also searched for Elysium. They presented themselves as gods to the population. Three brothers dominated the race but long time ago a war between the brothers began. The races of galaxy took the chance and rebelled against the Dominions. Everybody thought they were wiped out during the rebellion. Aden is shocked and send a voice message to Ilyria. Then he leaves the planet as soon as possible.

He travels to an old friend, General Isaac, and tells him what he saw. First Isaac doesn´t believe him but then Aden shows him the book. “The worst come true and we are not prepared,” Isaac says. Meanwhile Ilyria tries to convince the high council to stir the troops into action. An old menace is rising and threatens the United Races. But the other members of the high council don´t listen to her. They still discuss about politic and other nonsense. So Ilyria makes an decision which will change everything. She decides to suspend the high council making her the only person in the United Races which will lead them. Its her right but it hasn´t been used since the beginning. After the high council is gone she orders to assemble the troops. One week later hundreds of ship from all over the galaxy have come and waits for order. Reports from planet at the end of the galaxy says that the unknown ships rest and wait for something. Ilyria orders to go there and wipe out the menace for ever. She will lead the forces. Only a dozen of ships should stay at Verus to defend the high members of the races.

Meanwhile Aden and General Isaac are already at the end of the galaxy and see the three ships of the Dominions. The planet beneath the ships is a rotten one. Nothing but deep abysses with sharp edges. A transporter takes the Walker and Isaac to the surface where they see a huge building which wasn´t there some weeks ago when scouts flew over the planet. Aden and Isaac infiltrate the building and watch out for the enemy. The building is left but they find some invasion plans. Suddenly they receive a message from the UR Vicus. The armada of the United Races have come. The UR Vicus comes to the surface and picks Aden and Isaac up. When they fly back Aden takes a look onto the invasion plans. A retired mobster has opened a nightclub in L.A. and seeks to live out the last years of his life in hiding from the life he left behind. But ghosts from his past have come to haunt him, and days before his daughter's wedding, a mysterious man in a bowler's hat and trenchcoat offers to help the retired mobster expose and eradicate the men attempting to kill him. But the mysterious newcomer has high demands, and soon it becomes a question of who's really pulling the strings here. When the mobster begins to question the actions he must take, tensions mounts, and the mobster must choose to sacrifice people he cares for to save his daughter and his life.

Plot:

The first scenes takes place 25 years earlier (in the early 20

th century). On a misty November morning, a ship docks at Ellis Island. Many Slavic-speaking Eastern European people are being boarded onto the island. A young boy is with his mother, who he has to support onto the island. She is very sick. Some time passes on the island, and we learn of the hardships of some of the immigrants, who have fled their homes because of poverty. The boy stays with his mother but she is dying and is talking madly, babbling gibberish and even resorting to abusing her son verbally. Tears stream down his cheeks as he tries supporting his mother, but she is deteriorating and lashing out verbally, which only makes it worse for him. A police officer looks her over and tells the boy to let him take care of her. The boy tries clinging to his mother but he relents and lets the officer take her away. A middle-aged couple takes the boy and he stays with them for the remainder of his stay on the island. When he is boarding a boat to ride to Manhattan, he catches a glimpse of his mother's dead body being placed in a line with a few other older people who had died from sickness on their voyage over. The boy says nothing. (9 minutes in)

He spends his first few days in a shabby apartment with the middle-aged couple, but they face eviction within a week because they're unable to afford the low rent. The boy decides to take to the streets and fend for himself, but the nightlife of 1900 Manhattan is a dangerous place, and he witnesses looting and a shanking (the killer warns him not to speak before darting off through Central Park). As it rains, the boy looks through the window of a fancy restaurant but is shooed away by the owner after stealing bread. He winds up sleeping in an alley with a homeless man, and by the morning the homeless man is dead and he finds himself alone again. When he sees a young newspaper delivery boy abandon his bike for a moment, the young boy decides to take the bike and start delivering the papers himself. But after spending the day delivering papers, the boy winds up getting beaten to a pulp by the boss. Left wounded in a hospital and not sure how he got there, the boy vows he wants revenge. But he makes friends with a young boy sharing the room. The boy had to get both his legs amputated from an industrial accident (the boy had had to work to help his parents). His name is Johnny, and our young boy we've been following so far says his name is Charles, although it's not his real name (but he says to himself that he wants a new American identity now). Charles and Johnny get along well in the hospital and share stories, but one morning Charles wakes up to find the bed next to him empty. A nurse tells him that Johnny died in his sleep. Charles leaves the hospital changed. (21 minutes in)

Charles is taken to a settlement house, where he meets up with some other immigrants, although most of these are Irish immigrants and Charles is from Eastern Europe. Charles doesn't enjoy spending time at the settlement house, so instead he spends most of his time roaming the streets or strolling through the park. In the park, Charles becomes intrigued by an Italian man he meets there. The Italian man is Tony Carletto, and he takes a liking to Charles also. At first Charles does little jobs for him, liking shining his shoes, but then he starts to deliver packages for Tony. Charles never looks in the packages, certain that Tony wouldn't appreciate it. Every day Tony begins giving Charles advice, just stuff on how to live life and how to make a living and that sort of thing, and Tony begins to seem like a fatherly figure to young Charles, but Tony seems to be hiding some things. One rainy day in the park, after Tony hands Charles a package and he delivers it, Charles returns to find Tony not at their usual bench. Charles is quite confused for Tony was always there, so Charles starts looking for Tony. At last he sees some men by tree. Tony's back is to Charles, and Charles shouts out his name, but in response Tony stumbles over with a knife in his stomach. The men who stabbed him chase after Charles and they grab him and one tries to slit his throat, but a calmer gentleman intervenes. He asks Charles what he knew about Tony Carletto's smuggling business, and he goes on to inform Charles that those packages contained illegal jewelry and other stolen possessions and that Tony Carletto was a smuggler. The man introduces himself as Mr. Vincetti and he offers Charles a deal: he will not rat Charles out to the police as a thief (for helping Carletto) if Charles will help Vincetti out with some of his errands. Charles agrees. (34 minutes in)

Vincetti takes Charles in under his wing, and the young Charles spends several years warming up to Vincetti. But he never seems to have forgiven the Italian man for murdering Tony Carletto, but Vincetti has convinced Charles that it was a necessary deed. But Charles is quickly learning mafia rules, for Vincetti is deeply entrenched in a Manhattan mafia ring. Charles spends his time doing errands for Vincetti, but he fortunately never has to kill anyone for the man. However, one night does change Charles. He witnesses one of Vincetti's men kill a poor baker who hasn't been paying the mafia. Charles is forced to help hide the body. By this time, Charles is a teenager. On one errand, he comes across a man who Vincetti has ordered a hit on, and the man possesses a briefcase with $500,000. Charles takes the briefcase, and so the man is unable to pay when Vincetti's men come and they kill him. Charles feels guilty for what he did, yet he knows he can use the money to lead a better life finally. However, some time later Vincetti himself asks Charles about the money and makes Charles come clean. Charles does give him the money, and Vincetti doesn't harm him because he understands everyone makes mistakes. Charles is free to go. He realizes then that staying with Vincetti would be a dangerous thing, so Charles decides to leave. He knows doing so will kill him, so he fakes his own death. He burns his shabby apartment that Vincetti paid for, and then he shaves his hair and changes his name to Leonard. The last scene in this section shows Leonard walking down a dark Manhattan street, in the distance his apartment burning and smoke issuing into the night sky. (41 minutes in)

25 Years Later

Regina Halls rides in a taxi through the palm-tree lined streets of Los Angeles. She reaches her destination at a night club called Goldie's. Inside, the club is closed as it is not yet night, but some workers are bustling about with things. Regina approaches an older man who is talking with some clients. When he sees her he finishes up his conversation and turns to her, then embraces her in a hug and invites her upstairs. She calls him father. Regina and Mr. Hall, who looks like an older Vincetti, go up to his office upstairs. There, they make small talk for a bit, but finally the reason for Regina being in L.A. breaks through: she was in town for her forthcoming wedding. Mr. Halls speaks of her fiance Miles Ferreri like a son, and he and Miles are to go golfing soon. Mr. Halls discusses again to his daughter his desire to have her stay here so they can be close again, but Regina reminds him that her home was in Chicago and she couldn't leave. She must leave now to go meet up with Miles. (46 minutes in)

Some day later, Mr. Halls is on a golf course with his future son-in-law Miles. During their session of golf, Mr. Halls gets around to talking business with Miles. He knows Miles is rooted here in L.A. while

Regina is in Chicago. Halls doesn't want to have Miles leaving off to Chicago. It was important that he hang around here, to keep an eye on things. He tells Miles that it would be in his interests to remain and convince Regina to stay as well. Over a drink in the bar, Halls discusses his plans to get rid of a pestering businessman who has been inspecting Goldie's these past few weeks. Halls suspects he may be from the FBI. Miles asks what he would like him to do about it, and Halls tells him to keep an eye out on the gentleman. (51 minutes in)

The gentleman in question is Roy Carter. At the time he is discussing over a telephone what he has on Goldie's. The man on the other line is interested in Halls; he wants Carter monitoring all of Halls' phone calls. Carter asks him if he is certain this is there man, and the man on the other end says he has a good feeling they have found him at last. Carter leaves his hotel, which is a block away from Goldie's, and he goes over to the night club as dusk is setting. Carter is certainly dressed like a federal agent, and once inside a cocktail waitress tries to set his mind at ease. He sits alone at a table as the club fills in that night. All the while, he watches the balcony where Mr. Halls sits at a table with some older gentlemen. At that table, Mr. Halls is in a conversation with the important gentlemen. They address him as Donny. Donny and the gentlemen are discussing a great future for Goldie's, and over a few drinks the men offer Donny some deals for the future of the club. Donny seems distracted, however; he keeps peering over the balcony at the floor below, where he can see Carter drinking alone. Donny summons a waitress and whispers in her ear. She smiles and walks off. Donny and the gentlemen resume their discussion. (56 minutes in)

Downstairs, as a flapper on the stage sings a classical 1920s jazz song and the dancefloor starts to fill up, the waitress approaches Carter. She introduces herself as Betsy and comes off very seductively, enticing him with fancies. Carter tries to dismiss it and rid himself of her, wanting to stay on task, but Betsy gets more physical and tenderly kisses his lips. She tells him to come with her upstairs, and she'll show him a good time. Carter doesn't know about it, but an idea occurs to him, and he agrees. They go upstairs, and Betsy locks eyes with Donny Halls, who nods in acquiescence. While Halls goes over the deal with the gentlemen interested in purchasing Goldie's, Betsy leads Carter into a backroom. There, she kisses him passionately and proceeds to undress. They both begin removing each other's clothes. The next scene shows Carter walking out of the room, closing the door behind him. He checks that the hall is clear, then goes to Halls' office in the back. Once inside, he inspects a while and then puts a tap on the phone. He starts checking through Halls' belongings and finds references to Regina and Miles' wedding. He takes a picture of Regina and leaves the club. Donny watches him exit. The camera pans back to the room where Carter and Betsy made love; there, Betsy lies dead on the floor, strangled to death. (60 minutes in)

Regina is with Miles in her hotel eating breakfast together, both only half-dressed. Miles begins to discuss with Regina plans to stay here in Los Angeles. Regina says she thought they had agreed Chicago was better for them; that way Regina could keep her job and Miles could make a new name for himself instead of staying in her dad's employment at Goldie's. Regina reminds him that he doesn't want to spend his whole life as an errand boy. Miles refutes that he is an errand boy, and Regina asks what it is he even does for her dad. Miles just says it is important and confidential. Regina pushes the issue about moving back to Chicago after the wedding, but now Miles grows sterner about it and insists that they remain in L.A. Regina thinks her dad has put him up to this and says she doesn't appreciate that he is going behind her back and discussing these things with her father, but he points out that her father is a good and honorable man and he was very lucky to be able to work for a man like him. The debate ends with Miles leaving, saying he has work to do. (66 minutes in)

Carter is in his hotel across from Goldie's, listening in on a conversation between Donny Halls and an unknown client. As the conversation presses on, the man on the other end lets slip something from Donny's past, a time when he was in New York. Halls lashes out at the man, reminding him that they were not to discuss that, that it was as if it never happened. New York never happened to Donny Halls, and that's what he was going with. The conversation ends with a knock on the door. Halls goes to answer it to find a man in a bowler hat and trench coat standing there. Halls asks who this is and how he got up here, and the man says to just call him an old friend. Halls demands to know the meaning of this, and so the man produces an image from his pocket: it's of Roy Carter. The man in the bowler hat explains that Carter has been monitoring Halls' interactions these past weeks. Halls asks how he knew this and where he got that picture from, but the man tells him not to worry about it. He says that Carter was not FBI, he didn't even work for the government. Halls grows suspicious and thinks these claims are ballsy and wants to know how this man knows all of this, but the man shushes him. He tells Halls that his life is in danger, but he can help him out here. All he had to do was make a deal with the man in the bowler hat. The man in the bowler hat could dispose of this Roy Carter, but if he did, he wanted Halls to dispose of someone in turn. The man named Miles Ferreri. Halls says this is mad and that he should have the man thrown out. Miles Ferreri was as good as a son to him, and he would not get rid of the man who would marry his daughter. The man in the bowler hat says that Miles poses a threat to his operations in L.A. but Halls refuses to agree. The man leaves Halls with a final warning: Carter will make his move, but it can be stopped now if Halls will agree to remove Miles Ferreri from the picture. A security guard appears, and Halls tells him to get rid of this vermin. (71 minutes in)

Carter is on the phone with the unknown man from earlier. He informs him of what happened in the phone conversation between Halls and a past acquaintance. The man on the other end is interested. Carter asks him if Halls' involvement in New York verifies that he is the man they are looking for. The man on the other end says that it seems much more likely, as he had thought all along, but he still doesn't want to act until he is entirely certain that this is their man. Carter fears that Halls is getting suspicious of his being at Goldie's, but the man on the other end tells him that they would act as soon as they had enough evidence that Halls was their man, and the call ends. (74 minutes in)

Outside an apartment, furniture is being loaded out of a vehicle. Movers help bring the items into the house. A young man is getting himself situated into his new house. He boasts excitedly with the movers; he says how he always wanted to come to L.A., ever since was a little boy. He tips the movers a good deal and then looks around, alone, in his new apartment. Suddenly, the phone (which is already set up) rings, and the man answers it as, “Hello, this is Leonard.” (76 minutes in)

It is night and taxis are lining up to drop patrons off at Goldie's. Leonard hops out of one and looks around excitedly at the well-to-do going into the nice night club. He goes in and looks around in awe. He feels excited about the environment. He sits down at the bar and orders a drink. The bartender looks at him and says he hasn't seem him around here before, and he says he don't give drinks out to newcomers. Leonard asks why, and the bartender says he could be FBI or something. Leonard explains that he's just out for a good time, and a friend told him about this place. The bartender says it's club policy. Yet ironically a police officer walks in and asks for a scotch. The bartender pours him one, saying it's on the house like always, and the officer walks off into the crowd. “Alright, supposing I am FBI. What say you give me a drink, on the house, and I don't report you for selling alcohol?” Leonard says. The bartender threatens to hit him, so Leonard walks off into the club. He sits down at a table, and Regina approaches. She hands him a drink of whiskey, saying she couldn't help but notice his trouble back there. They introduce themselves and Leonard offers Regina a seat with him, but she says she really can't stay and chat. Leonard says it would be interesting, and Regina looks around. She sees Miles is on the balcony talking with her father. Leonard notices her watching and asks if that's her husband. “Fiance.” Leonard tells her to go to him, and if she gets bored she can find him and they can talk; he's new here and he needs to get to know people. Regina smiles and walks off to join Miles and Halls. (80 minutes in)

Over the course of the night, Leonard gets around to flirting with the waitresses and some club dwellers. Meanwhile Halls and Miles are discussing business on the balcony, and Regina feels really withdrawn. She keeps watching Leonard downstairs. While this occurs, a jazz song is playing (“Dirty Business”) from the seductive singer on stage. Halls eventually tells Regina that perhaps she should go downstairs and spend time having fun instead of listening to boring business talk. Miles agrees and Regina kisses him then leaves. Leonard is making a drunken fool of himself when Regina catches up to him. He seems pleased her though and they go off to one of the tables and chat. Leonard tells her how he used to live in New York but everyone was telling him to come to Los Angeles, and ultimately he packed his things and headed west. He talks a little of his past life, saying he was a stock broker, but with the Crash and all that wasn't looking too well. He decided it was best to start new, and L.A. seemed promising. Regina doesn't want to talk much at first, but he convinces her to with some flirting. She talks about how she's from Chicago and her job there and stuff like that. Surprisingly, Leonard makes her laugh several times and even gets her around to drinking some. As she gets more buzzed, it becomes increasingly obvious that she is having a better time with him than we've seen her have with Miles so far. Meanwhile, Miles and Halls are upstairs talking (Miles keeps looking annoyingly down at Leonard and Regina). Halls asks him what he has on this Carter fella. Miles says he's tried following him but the man always seems to ditch him. He thinks that it is obvious the man is FBI, though, because Miles found a bug in Halls' office, which he shows Halls. Halls is alarmed, but Miles says that they won't be able to trace any more calls. Halls grows suspicious though, saying that if Carter was FBI why did Betsy wind up dead after he was the last one with her, and Miles suspects that it was a cover-up. Halls thinks again of the man in the bowler hat, but he doesn't tell Miles about it. Miles asks why the FBI would be interested in Halls; he thought his issues had been clean since coming to L.A. Halls tells Miles not to mention the past, but he would get this all sorted out. Down on the club floor, Leonard and Regina continue to have a good time conversing and ultimately wind up dancing to a romantic tune. Miles grows distressed and snatches Regina away from Leonard. When Leonard says something, Miles punches him in the face and he takes Regina out of the club. Outside, he slaps her and tells her to watch where she puts her hands. (90 minutes in)

Donny approaches Leonard and tells everyone to go back to their dancing, and the music resumes. Donny gets Leonard a drink then asks the man what his name is. When Leonard and he lock eyes, Donny asks if he's seen him before. Leonard thinks long and hard, then says he doubts it. He hasn't been around here very long. Donny says he feels like he's seen that face before, somewhere else. Leonard excuses himself and goes to the bathroom to wipe blood from his bleeding nose. He stares long at himself in the mirror and grips the edges of the sink in frustration, although we don't know why. Meanwhile, Regina and Miles are riding in a cab together to Miles' place. Miles gets onto Regina again, calling her a filthy whore. Regina retaliates by saying that it was harmless fun, and Miles tells her that she was his. Regina says that she was not property. Then Miles begins interrogating her about who that guy was anyways, suddenly growing suspicious of Leonard. Back in the club, Donny is on the balcony drinking in solitude. The club is starting to clear out. Leonard comes out of the bathroom and Donny watches him intently as he drunkenly sways across the barroom toward the exit, shouting out a few drunken slurs. Leonard departs from the club. Soon all the patrons have left, and Donny is left alone on the balcony looking at his deserted club. Suddenly, three men in business suits walk in. “You Donny Hall?” one of them asks. Donny asks who's asking, and the men draw tommy guns and open fire. Donny leaps to the floor as the men shred up the club room, killing the bouncers and the fleeing jazz singer. They tear up the furniture and the bar and shoot rounds at the balcony while Donny tries crawling to escape. A fourth man appears and starts beating Donny with a bat, breaking the old man's frail body. Suddenly, as he's going for a death blow, a bullet rips through his chest and he stumbles over the balcony. The man in the bowler hat and trench coat stands over Donny and fires three more shots, taking out the other three men on the floor below. He turns his gun down to Donny, who asks if he was going to kill him, but the man pulls him up instead. (97 minutes in)

The man in the bowler hat drives Donny to a safe house. On the way there, Donny asks who he is and what those men were doing there. The man says they were there to kill Valentino Vincetti. Donny looks horrified and says that that name didn't exist anymore; he disposed of that identity fifteen years ago when he learned he had a daughter in Chicago. The man in the bowler hat says that Vincetti's fake death wasn't good enough; one of his close confidants leaked to mob informants that Vincetti was still alive. Donny calls the man a bloody coward and backstabber and says that they used to hang them up by their entrails when he was in charge. The man in the bowler hat reminds him that he wasn't in charge anymore. They reach the safe house, and there the man tends to Donny's bruises. Donny thanks him for saving him but asks why he did it, and the man says he still wants to help Donny, save him before Carter's men could get to him. Donny asks what he wants in return, anything but the death of Miles, but the man says that's his only offer. Donny refuses, and the man reminds him that without him he would have died tonight, and in the nights to come Carter's men will be after him with more force now that they think he has a savior. Ultimately, after some convincing, the man in the bowler hat convinces Donny to kill Miles, and in return he would take care of Carter. Donny asks why he wants Miles dead, and the man explains that he believes Miles is an informant from Vincetti's past who leaked to Carter's gang his whereabouts. He was a threat to Donny Hall. Donny grows angry and wants Miles wiped out now, and he vows that he still remembers how to kill a lying bastard. The man in the bowler hat offers to let Donny stay there as it would be safer. As he goes himself, Donny asks his name. “Just call me Mr. Black,” he says, and leaves the safe house with a calling card. (104 minutes in)

Over the next few days, Goldie's remains closed down. The club is in ruins. Donny seems to be quite suspicious of Miles. As they golf together, they don't talk much and Donny monitors Miles' every move. Some time later Miles tries discussing with Donny his intention to expand Goldie's, make it a more financial bloomer that it ought to be. He also discusses his intentions to remain in L.A. after the wedding. Donny doesn't seem too interested in what Miles has to say, though, and it begins to irk Miles. Miles doesn't lash out at him, though, but he takes out his frustrations on Regina. Several times she winds up the subject of his shouting bouts. And he scares her one time when he wrecks his place and she hides in a bathroom while he throws a giant tantrum, flipping furniture. Regina realizes this is not the man she thought she knew, and she begins to doubt the wedding now. She breaks down crying after Miles storms out. But some day later, Regina happens upon Leonard in a diner. She takes a seat next to him and asks if he remembers her, and he says he couldn't forget such a pretty face. Once again they hit it off, and they have a very nice and casual conversation. Leonard asks if it would be alright to ask her to dinner, and she tells him he just did. They laugh and she agrees. (112 minutes in)

Roy Carter is hastily packing his things and the phone rings. He hesitates to answer but finally does. The man on the other end asks where he was going, and Carter tries to deny he was leaving. The man explains that Carter wasn't going anywhere, not after the shit he got them into. Carter says it's not his fault; he didn't order those men to attack Goldie's. The man on the other end says they're on Carter's payroll; they're Carter's men. Carter says they can still get Halls, and if he is Vincetti then their work here would be done, but the man on the other end says that Carter fucked up; he let Halls get away, and now they wouldn't know where he was. Carter vows he can fix this; he pleads for one last chance. There is a long moment of silence, and then the man on the other end says, “One last chance.” (114 minutes in)

Donny is alone in his office looking over everything he has on Miles Ferreri. When he looks up at last, Mr. Black is standing in the doorway. “You haven't taken care of our problem yet,” he says. Donny says he wanted to be absolutely certain first, and Mr. Black reminds him that Miles Ferreri was a threat to Donny's life. He knew everything about Vincetti, and he would tell everyone, not just Carter's men, where he was hiding out if it would earn him cash. Donny says it just doesn't fit, not with Miles' character and everything he knows about the young man. He never even knew Miles before Chicago, and it made no sense that Miles knew his past life. Not even Regina knew that much. Mr. Black lights a cigar and asks Donny if he was trying to back out on their arrangement. Donny says he never liked to kill a man if he had doubts, so Mr. Black tells him that perhaps he would be interested to know that Carter's men plan a second attack. Donny wants to know more, but Mr. Black refuses to speak unless Donny can convince him he will take out Miles Ferreri. Mr. Black says he's tired of this bullshit and he says he can fend for himself without Mr. Black; he did for all of his life as a mobster, and he can do it again as a club owner. Mr. Black shrugs and puts out his cigar, saying that it would be a shame if something were to happen to Regina. Donny becomes livid and demands to know what Carter is planning on doing to his daughter, but Mr. Black says he cannot help, and by now it would be too late. Regina would be taken within the hour. Donny draws a gun and aims it at Mr. Black. He tells him to get his daughter back or he'd kill him, but Mr. Black says that he doesn't want to do that, not when he was the only man who could find Regina safely. Donny lowers the gun, and Mr. Black says he will get Regina back, if Donny kills Miles first, and Mr. Black has to witness it. Donny doesn't even bother thinking about it this time. Breaking down, he agrees. (119 minutes in)

Leonard and Regina meet at a fancy restaurant, both well dressed for the occasion. They spend the evening together in the restaurant, getting to know a lot about each other. This time Regina does a lot of the talking. She tells Leonard how much she admires the desert; she's always wanted to live near an oasis. She used to paint pictures of deserts all the time. Leonard asks if he would show her some, and she agrees to. Leonard reveals that when he was younger he actually went to the desert once, he knew a great place where the stars were brilliant at night. They talk about family, too, and Regina laments the loss of her mother, who she knew for the first ten years of her life. It wasn't until after her mom passed that she even met her dad, but since then they've been really close. She's often wondered about his past. Leonard says his mother also died when he was young, and he didn't know his father. He had been an orphan most of his life, but he made due with what he got. He once knew a man named Tony who was the closest thing he ever had to a father. Regina asked what happened to him, and Leonard says he died years ago, but he still remembers the day. Regina is shocked that he actually witnessed it. They go on some more about family stuff, and Leonard seems rather interested in Regina's father. He seems to want to know about him. And about Miles as well. Here Regina reveals her doubts finally, and Leonard apologizes for the situation she's in, falling in love with a man who turns out to be a stranger. He talks of a time when he fell into a similar situation with a woman who ended up being nothing but a thief. (127 minutes in)

Donny stands outside his parked car near a railway station. He looks and acts nervous, but Mr. Black, seated in the car and watching him, tells him to be calm. He can't frighten Miles. Donny tries to regain his nerves. Some time passes there alone at the station when suddenly Miles comes walking from the station itself. He asks Donny what this is about, calling him out here in the night like this. Donny says they're waiting for something. Miles says this is all very ridiculous; Donny appeases him by saying it would be in his interest to wait here. All the while Donny seems very nervous, and Miles tries rationalizing what this is about. Finally, after a few tense minutes, Mr. Black steps out of the car. Miles asks who this is, and Mr. Black looks over at Donny and tells him to explain. Donny introduces the man as his new business partner. Miles asks why he wasn't informed of any of this, and Donny says that he had to keep him out of the loop. Miles starts getting a bit upset, and Mr. Black reminds Donny that they would need to get going soon. So finally Donny draws a gun and turns it on Miles. Miles looks at him wild-eyed and asks what the fuck this is about. Donny says that he has him figured out; he informed on Donny to the mafia. Miles says this is absurd, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Donny says he's had enough of his lies, and as he prepares to fire, Miles begins to plead for his life, whimpering like a coward. “Finish him,” Mr. Black says, and Donny pulls the trigger saying, “You're no son of mine.” As they get in the car, loading Miles' body in the back, Mr. Black tells Donny that he expected a former mobster to have been able to kill someone more easily. Donny says he's a bit rusted, and he always thought of Miles as a son. (132 minutes in)

Leonard and Regina spend the rest of the night together. They walk along the beach under the twinkling stars and even go for a brief swim in the water. They talk of interests, and especially of Regina's paint skills. Finally they wind up at Miles' place. Leonard asks if Regina is certain Miles wasn't home, and Regina says he wouldn't be back tonight. He was doing business. So they go in and Regina shows Leonard one of her paintings; she says she brings it with her everywhere because it's her favorite. It's a nice desert landscape with a woman in white silk looking away from the viewer. Leonard asks if the woman was her, and Regina says she likes to think of it that way. Suddenly they start kissing, and gradually kissing leads to unclothing, and they wind up making love. (139 minutes in)

Roy Carter appears on the sidewalk leading up to the Ferreri house late at night. Two men accompany him as he approaches the house. Inside Regina is asleep, but Leonard sits up in bed naked, unable to sleep. While Leonard starts looking around the house, at photographs and such, Carter picks the back lock. Soon Leonard sees shadows moving behind the blinds and peeks out. He begins to suspect someone is there, but he doesn't rouse Regina. Carter manages to sneak in through the back while Leonard is busying himself with spying out the front window. Seeing Leonard there, Carter freezes, obviously not expecting a man. Before Leonard can realize what is happening, he is hit in the back of the head. Carter proceeds to the bedroom and finds Regina waiting, asleep. He goes at her and gags her while she squirms, awake now. Carter knocks her out, too, and he drags her body from the house. (143 minutes in)

It is early morning and Donny is at Goldie's with Mr. Black. Mr. Black informs him that Regina has been taken, sometime during the night. Donny asks if he's certain he can get her back, and Mr. Black says he can, but first he's going to need another favor of Donny. Donny says he thought taking out Miles was enough, but Mr. Black says that was for Donny's benefit, not his. He wants money this time. Donny says he can get him however much money he wants, and Mr. Black sets the price high, exactly five hundred thousand. Donny says it will take him some time to get that amount together, but Mr. Black says the longer it takes, the less likely Regina will come back alive. Donny vows he'll have the money ready by that night. (145 minutes in)

Regina comes around and finds herself tied to a chair in a dark room. She looks around desperately, trying to become acquainted with her surroundings. She asks if anyone was there, and gradually grows more panicked when no one answers. Finally, a man wearing a suit enters the room. He hides in the darkness so Regina (and the viewer) cannot make out his features, and he blows smoke from a cigar. Regina asks him why he's doing this to her, and the man tells her that it is retribution. Regina breaks down, begging to be let go, swearing her father will pay, that Miles will pay. The man says he will get what he wants, and if she cooperates she will not be harmed. His voice sounds familiar: it is the voice of the man on the other end of the phone conversations with Carter. Carter enters the room and the man in the shadows tells Carter to keep an eye on her; he had to finish business, and then everything would fall into place exactly as it was intended. (148 minutes in)

Leonard is in his apartment, treating the wound on the back of his head. Suddenly the phone rings, and Leonard answers it. A voice on the other end says, “47 Sunset Boulevard.” There's a click. Leonard grabs his coat and heads out. // Donny is just putting down the phone in his office. He opens a safe in his office and pulls out a familiar briefcase. He opens it, and staring up at him is five hundred thousand dollars. He closes it and walks to the door, where the bouncer is waiting. Donny tells him to follow him, but keep a close distance. // Regina tries speaking with Carter. She tells him that her father would find her, and when he did Carter would be a dead man. When this approach doesn't work, she tries sympathizing with him instead, appealing to his emotions. Finally Carter loads his gun and fires at the ground near her feet, shutting her up. // Leonard steps out of a taxi on Sunset Boulevard as night is settling. He walks toward a familiar building: the safe house where Mr. Black had taken Donny a few nights ago. Checking that no one is watching, Leonard goes in. // Donny pulls up to an abandoned warehouse and waits outside until the sun is completely hidden from sight. He checks that the bouncer is in safe sight, then walks into the warehouse. // There's a knock on the door, and Carter goes to answer it. “Oh, it's you,” he says, surprised sounding. // Donny is stepping cautiously through the warehouse. “Anyone here?” he asks but gets no response, so he keeps walking around and reaches the back, stepping into an office. There, his eyes widen in surprise. Pictures line a wall, pictures mostly of Regina, from days past in Chicago. But there are pictures also of Donny, of him as Vincetti, old black and white Polaroids taken when he was in the mafia. Donny is baffled, “What is this?” he proclaims. Suddenly a shadow falls over him, and a man in a trench coat and bowler hat stands in the doorway. (152 minutes in)

Regina is struggling to see who the man in the doorway is, but Carter blocks her sight. She asks the man to help her, begs him. Carter tells her to shut up. He turns away from the man when Regina starts screaming, and he slaps her ferociously. Suddenly the man in the doorway raises a gun, and Carter hears the click. “What do you...?” he starts but then he is shot in the head. A light flashes on, and Regina's eyes widen in surprise. “Leonard?” she's near crying. Leonard sets the gun down and goes to untie her. She wraps her arms around him and says she can't believe he found her, and that he risked himself coming here to save her. Leonard says he followed that man after he took her, tracked him here, then had to go find a gun. He had to get her out; he just had to. She thanks him and kisses him through tears. Leonard says he thinks it's still not safe here. Carter wasn't acting alone; he saw more men, and someone left. Regina relates her experience of the man in the suit. Leonard says they must go into hiding, until they could know they were safe. Regina says they can just go to Goldie's; they'd be safe there, and Leonard breaks to her saddening news: her father was killed earlier that day. Regina is too horrified to speak. As they hear footsteps, Leonard takes her out and they steal Carter's car, leaving the safe house. (156 minutes in)

Mr. Black asks Donny if he brought the money, and Donny asks where Regina is. Mr. Black wants the money first, so Donny places the briefcase on the ground. “Now Regina,” he says. Mr. Black asks if someone was following him, and Donny lies and says no. Mr. Black says that he would free Regina, but there was one final price. Donny gets outraged, having already killed Miles and forked over five hundred thousand. Mr. Black calms him down, and he draws a gun on Donny. He says before he can free Regina, he has to kill him. Donny says he doesn't understand this, any of it, and Mr. Black says he came here looking for two things: the money, which was taken from him in New York, and Vincetti. Donny asks who he is, and Mr. Black removes his hat, revealing his face as...Leonard. “You don't remember me, do you?” he says, but Donny recalls running into him at the club, him speaking with Regina. “No you blind fool! Think harder...back to New York,” Leonard says, and Donny's eyes light up: “Charles?” Leonard smirks and says that was very good of him. Donny said he thought he died in a fire years ago, but Leonard says that was a cover-up, and a much more effective one than Vincetti's faked death. Vincetti left too many trails behind, and they were easy to follow when one knew where to look. So Leonard, who was in need of money, knew just where to find Vincetti and the five hundred thousand dollars he took from him. He followed Vincetti to Chicago. As he tells his story, flashbacks relate it all. In Chicago, a young Leonard discovers Vincetti and his daughter Regina. Vincetti had changed his name to Donny. When Leonard learned he had a daughter, he decided he would try to use her as leverage. But someone stopped Leonard (in the flashbacks we don't see who this man is yet, just his back). Leonard continued to track Vincetti and found out he was opening a night club in L.A. Leonard spied on him several times there. Then Miles Ferreri came into the picture, and Leonard thought he might complicate things. Only, it wasn't he who thought it...well, not exactly (again we see the back of this other man). Miles began to fall in love with Regina, and Leonard's accomplice didn't seem too pleased by this. So finally Leonard devised the perfect scheme. We see he hires a man named Roy Carter to carry out his scheme. In the flashbacks, it is revealed that Leonard was the man on the other end of the conversations, and that he was the man in the suit in the safe house with Regina. He had changed his voice, made it gruffer. We see he dons the trenchcoat and bowler hat, to make himself close to Donny Halls so that he could get access to the man and his money. He calls in the men to shoot out Goldie's, then proceeds to go in himself and take them out. He called on Carter to take Regina, so that she could be used as leverage. He was there when Miles died. He was Mr. Black, was the man behind everything. (163 minutes in)

The flashbacks end and Donny says he has given him all the money. He begs Leonard to let him stay alive; he could never bother him again, he wouldn't even try to track him down. Leonard apologizes and says he can't do that. Donny knew too much, and he would interfere with his plans for Regina. “She deserves better than what you or Miles could have given her,” Leonard says. Donny weeps now, and he asks why it was necessary to kill him, for now Leonard has cocked his revolver. Leonard says that has to do with an old friend, a father of sorts to him: Tony Carletto. We replay his death before a young Charles' eyes, and we see how that tore him apart. Leonard says that Carletto was the closest thing he had to a father, being an orphan. Donny remembers Carletto now and tries convincing Leonard it was a necessary death, but Leonard is not convinced. Donny begs for forgiveness, and Leonard says he wouldn't have it. The last thing Donny gets to ask is what will happen to Regina, and Leonard says, “She's all Leonard's now.” Then he shoots Donny in the head and takes the briefcase. As he leaves the warehouse, we see that the bouncer is dead in his car, his throat slit. Leonard gets in Donny's car and drives away with the briefcase in the seat next to him. (166 minutes in)

Daylight is breaking through as Leonard drives down a road through the desert, with Regina in the seat next to him. She cracks her eyes as the sun pierces through the windows. She asks where they were going, and Leonard says, “To a safer home.” (166 minutes in)

Leonard is at the train station with the briefcase in his hand. When the train gets there, he boards it. The train takes off from the station, and Leonard places his bowler hat over his face to block out the sun while he gets some sleep. As he dozes off, flashbacks occur to fill in the missing pieces of the story: We go back all the way to the ship docking at Ellis Island. As we can see, Charles is not the only boy there. Another boy runs off the ship before him, Charles shouting after him but having to fend for his mother instead. Later, Charles sees the boy again at the settlement house, addressing him as his brother, and they hug. They look identical. Through flashbacks of Charles' times spent with Tony Carletto, we see that he always returns home to help out his twin brother. When he has to work for Vincetti, his brother gets mad about it, and he can see the stress is affecting Charles so much, so sometimes he works for him instead, and Vincetti never notices the difference. Yet when Charles is forced to fake his own death, they must both go into hiding. We do not know which Charles saw the murder or the thievery, but he became Leonard. Throughout the flashbacks of Chicago, we now see that Leonard's accomplice was also Leonard, for they are twins, and Leonard wants to spare Regina because he seems smitten with her. Later in L.A. it is that same Leonard who wants Miles removed when he sees how much Regina has fallen in love with her. It is that Leonard who devises the plan to kill Miles. It is he who gets close to Regina. The other Leonard goes on as Mr. Black. He was in it for the money, but his twin just wanted Regina. That's all he wanted. In the flashbacks we also see the scene where Carter confronts Leonard in the doorway. Carter is surprised he had returned so soon, not knowing they were twins. When Leonard pulls out the gun, Carter is surprised. It is that Leonard who takes Regina from the safe house and drives off to the desert in Carter's car, while the other Leonard carries out his scheme as Mr. Black, finally exacting revenge on Vincetti and getting the money. (170 minutes in)

The flashbacks end, and Leonard is in an old house somewhere. At first we don't know which one it is, but then he goes outside and is in a desert. He walks on to a small oasis, where Regina is busy painting. Leonard kisses her and looks at the painting. “It looks nice,” he says, but we never see what the painting is. They both lock lips again as the camera pans to the horizon, desert everywhere. (171 minutes in)

Plot:

Pitch black. The following words are heard: “You're going to die. It's not going to be a pleasant death. It's going to be slow, painful, and terrible. It's going to leave your family in economic ruin and they'll resent you for what you are going to force them to go through. You'll either die alone or with people who can't wait until you're in the ground. This is going to be the worst time of your life. It's going to be the last time of your life. You're dying. You have cancer.” Suddenly the lights come on and two people are revealed. One is a doctor. The other is a middle-aged man. They're at a doctors office. The voice comes back and it's the doctors: “The only decision you really have to make is whether you'll want to fight, or whether you'll give. It's my deepest regrets to tell you that the cancer you have, the cancer of the heart, is in such an advanced stage that there is no hope. I won't do chemo. I won't do any treatments. You can find some home remedies that pretend to be miracle cures. You can go to church, maybe God can save you. But only he can.” The doctor finishes. The man looks shaken up. He leaves the office, but he struggles to get through the hallway. Once in the waiting room, he can't help but sit down. The receptionist calls him by named, Arnold. Arnold merely ignores her.

The next thing we see is Arnold is in his car. He looks at it. It's a crappy old car, the kind you buy and promise that you'll replace when you have more money. He gets into the car and feels the steering wheel. He just stares ahead. He eventually turns the car on and goes on the road. It's getting dark, so the lights come on. He drives home and he parks the car. He walks slowly to his house and enters. He goes to his wife, Karen, and she's there baking a pie. As if nothing is wrong. She asks him how his day was. He looks at her worried and that's when she stops smiling. She asks him what is wrong. He asks her if she ever thought of what was going to happen when he died. She shook his head. He then revealed that she better start thinking because that day is coming soon. She's shaken up by it. She goes to the couch in the living room. He follows her and they sit down. He tells her everything-the kind of cancer that he has, that it's going to be painful, and that he doesn't have long to live. She asks him if he's afraid. He reveals that he is. He states “The thing that frightens me about death isn't that I'll never see anything again, or hear anything again, or smell again. The thing that frightens me about death is that I won't think. I won't do math, learn new things. I'll just...be bones in the ground until I disintegrate to nothing. But that doesn't matter since, the moment I die, I'll be nothing.” Suddenly a teenage, Laura, comes in and asks why there's smoke coming from the kitchen. Karen remembers about the pie.

It's the family dinner later that night. Arnold is sitting at the head of the table. Karen is right next to him and so is Laura. Two seats down are his two children: Jack and Mark. They eat and talk and the kids talk about how they had good days. They notice that for the first time in a long time their father is listening, but this only encourages them. It isn't until everyone is done with their food that Arnold gets the family to quiet down. Arnold reveals that he is dying. Laura lets out a gasp. The boys look at him. Mark, not old enough to understand the finality of death, asks “So what?” Jack punches Mark and states “Buttface, it means he's going to go away soon and we'll never talk to him again.” This causes Laura to run out of the room crying. Arnold merely sits there, not really sure what to do as a father. Karen also sits there, as she had been in quite a catatonic state the whole dinner.

The movie then goes through several weeks over the next scenes. It shows Arnold going from being able to live his life to struggling to get out of bed. It shows Arnold struggling to even hold a fork. While this is happening, his family has different reactions. Mark is continually by the side of his father when he's not at school, talking to him and playing near him. Jack largely avoids him as he can't deal with looking at him, knowing that might be his last time. Laura goes in but she can't say anything to him. She merely looks at him when he's asleep. Karen tries to be a supportive wife, but the situation is getting to her. She's seen doing her household chores with more strain and she can barely hold herself together. Making matters worse is that she's had to get two jobs to support the family. The scenes show her going from being sane to getting closer and closer to snapping the longer her husband lives.

One day, Arnold decides that he wants to talk to a pastor. He was never religious in his life, but he has decided that if there is a heaven then he wants to go there. The pastor comes and despite Karen's protestations, Arnold becomes born-again. This doesn't heal Arnold nor does it change how his family deals with death. All that it does is it seems to provide Arnold with some peace. The pastor leaves but not before Karen slaps him. She seems to have no explanation for what she did when Laura asks her why.

The movie continues to show Arnold as he gets weaker and weaker, while Karen gets closer and closer to snapping. Laura is finally able to speak to her dad, but only for short periods of time. Mark continues to play around him and talking to him, always being there. Jack continues to avoid him. The movie reveals that to try and deal with this situation, Jack has decided to try do drugs from some of his friends from his local middle-school. As he does drugs, he starts to get more irritable around his sister, brother, and mother.

One day Karen is cleaning Arnold's room when she looks at her husband. She then looks at a picture, back before when he was healthy and happier. She looks at Arnold who is sleeping, but clearly in pain. She takes a nearby pillow and looks at Arnold. She decides to drop the pillow and merely sits there on the bed. She states the following: “Do you want to die or live? You have no chance at getting better, but death is so final. I don't want to live without you, but I don't want you to live.” She leaves the room, not knowing the Mark has overheard her. Mark heads to Jack and reveals what his mom said. Jack wants to be left alone to do some more drugs, but the message gets to him just as he's getting high. Jack eventually heads to his father's room, the first time. He looks at his weak dad and Jack goes over to him. “I'm sorry I haven't been able to visit you. I'm sorry that you're dying. But you have to go now.” Jack picks up the pillow and suffocates his dad. He then goes to his room and closes the door. He stays in there, getting more and more high. Suddenly he hears a scream-it's his sister. Jack thinks that his father has been discovered. He stands up but then he faints. The camera fades and it reveals that his sister was standing in his room, after having forced the door open. There's drug bottles everywhere, and it's clear that Jack has overdosed.

The hospital. Jack wakes up, he's alive. He's connected to some wires and there's handcuffs on his wrists. His mom, sister, and brother are there. His mom reveals that his father died from suffocation. The police know he did it. Jack tries to apologize to his mom but she stops him. Karen merely thanks him and leaves. Laura looks at him, judging him, but she also leaves. Only Mark states and he Mark merely starts to talk to Jack like he used to talk to his father.
