I guess 'eyed' and final negotiations are enough for an actor to have a role nowadays. What happened to first being eyed, then negotiations, final negotiations and confirmed.

Honestly, I'm not sure if the audience is there for this movie.

It just sort of feels like a remake that nobody is asking for, plus Westerns seem to be a hard sell nowadays.

 

IDK, I hope I'll see the appeal as it moves forward because right now I really don't (despite liking the talent involved).

I agree it's an unnecessary remake of a remake but Denzel alone probably guarantees a $30m+ opening.

The huge success of American Sniper was likely a factor why MGM and Sony have opted for January for Magnificent 7

Book of Eli and Safe House also did well in the January-February periods, so maybe it's more that Denzel has shown he can sell a project during any time of the year.
