That's because people around the world are just so used to watch Hollywood flicks thanks to how governments around the globe allow them to be released in their respective countries but usually they don't release other foreign hits as well. And given how this has happened for decades, it couldn't have happened otherwise. Not to bash U.S. movies but there is no great achievement in the fact that Hollywood movies are hits all over the world while foreign movies aren't, in my opinion.

Besides, my point was more like it's very nice that people also like watching their local movies (and better if they're the all-time grosser).

I so agree with you. Seeing local movies in first place in their own country is more beautiful than seeing only hollywood movies in first in every country.

Its older but was even in the US respected then Germany: (about a submarine in WW II) Das Boot (cinema version = 1981)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/combined or the far more complex as mini-series (same material, cast,... only not cut down, released in 1985)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081834/combined

Thanks I love war movies! I'll check it out :)

Roaring Currents is just unbelievable.

Pirates on the other hand will become a victim ( like Kundo ) of too many local big hits in such a short time.

Hope Dragons will manage to reach 3 milion admissions but it might be very hard with another local movie coming soon.

Roaring currents passed 10 million admissions this morning (8 AM local time: CJ entertainments) and is the 12th film to join this exclusive club (10 local, 2 foreign). It is also the fastest film to reach this mark. Roaring currents may very well bring a paradigm shift in what we classify as a "big film" in Korea. Just 10 years ago, a film reaching 10 million admissions was a freakish event but with the year on year increasing film market, 1-2 hits are continuously reaching this mark every year. The stunning thing about roaring currents is that it has made 10 million admissions look so easy to reach. Depending on the final score it could very well raise the platform for future films.

With the success of roaring currents, a sequel and prequel is already in the planning phase. It could be the first trilogy to come out of a local film.

Also, special acknowledgements to actor Ryu Seung-ryong. This is his 3rd 10 million admission film in the space of 2 years with masquerade (2012), Miracle in cell no.7 (2013) and now roaring currents (2014). Amazing ticket power!
