Yeah, and direct comparisons with Ultron or Civil War not gonna work as Labor Day holidays fall on weekend for both of them instead of Tuesday for IW. 

 

IW really got the best possible release dates. It already pulled in gigantic numbers for OW, and the holiday on weekdays gonna add even more icing on that cake.

However, I think the issue with Battleship Island are more on the side of dishonesty and BTS dealings from distributors that lead to other movies released that same weekend to be pushed to not just less screens, but also ungodly showtimes. Gonna need confirmations from our local friends here, but I don’t think IW has that type of problems. 

 

Don’t think it will affect IW that much beyond prompting the government to push forward with time and effort for the anti-monopoly laws concerning theaters/screens/showtimes etc... 

 

The unbalanced allocation of screens happens with every major film release. I remember GoTG getting murdered on screen count, as it was released on the same week as Roaring Currents. The media and I guess some part of the Korean film council are overplaying this though when the general public reaction is largely indifferent. Most people complain about the lack of availability of good seats if anything.

Ryan Reynolds visited Seoul today to promote Deadpool 2

 

 

The first Deadpool film was pretty well recieved with 3,317,196 admissions ($24.66M) which is respectable for an R-rated film. Ratings were 8.21/10.0 on Naver (audience rating: 8.53). Release date is May 16.

Just from the top of my head, I'm pretty certain the record holder is Roaring Currents which did 990,022 admissions on its first Monday.

What days are actually holidays in SK? Because from this it appears that 4th and 5th are since the bolded is the weekend and those are incredible holds on the 4th/5th

In 2015, May 1st(Labor day)- 5th(Children's day)

I think 5th is Childrens day which may be the reason of the boost. This year it falls on Saturday. I dont know what the rules are in SK, whether they will get a holiday in lieu on Friday or not, because if they do then Friday will behave like Sat and Thursday like Friday. If not then IW will miss out on this extra boost.
