Rsyu
@Rsyu At its current pace still how many days EOT left?and how much usd it will make? It could stay in the top 10 for another week maybe but judging from presales, next week's releases will probably finish it. The signal, Confession and Dawn of the planet of the apes will likely all open higher on top of holdovers like TF4, Divine move and mourning grave. Maybe $0.3-0.6 million more gross?

Rsyu
TF4 HASNT bombed in SK but its disappointing!!!! Bay is the reason to be blamedThat would be my assesment too. People criticize it heavily but they want to judge for themselves how bad it is, which is why it hasn't bombed, many people go see it at least once. Rsyu
Box office up to the end of June was 96.5m vs 98.5m last year. Yeah June was another poor month, only Edge of Tomorrow and A hard day really performed and TF4 didn't have enough time to make an impact. July has the potential to be huge though and it could balance out eventually. 2014 is still on course for 200 million admissions for the second year straight but I don't see it increasing substantially from last year. It will most likely stay flat.
Rsyu
Movies that were a box office hit primarily in South Korea Apologies for the vague title, this is just a bit of fun of trivia I made while I was bored. The following are a list of films that were well received in Korea while flopping in most other countries. Some of them were due to the specific genre or themes that resonated among Korean movie-goers and others due to the actors/actresses that starred in them. Considering these films didn't do all to well in countries like China and Russia which share a similar box office pattern to Korea, it's natural to assume that these films appealed specifically to the sentiments of the Korean people. 1. About Time (2013) -Worldwide: $87,100,499 -South Korea: $23,434,443 -Domestic: $15,322,921 -United Kingdom: $12,098,359 -Australia: $7,636,052 As some you may or may not know this film was HUGE in Korea. It not only outgrossed the UK where it was produced, but also the domestic market which is several times larger than Korea's. The combination of the time travel theme and good OST music seems to be a fail-proof equation for box office success in Korea 2. Red 2 (2013) -Worldwide: $148,075,565 -Domestic: $53,262,560 -China: $8,980,000 -Japan: $7,426,857 -South Korea: $18,883,223 The only explanation for this film is the presence of Lee byung-hun as actor. He's a major celebrity in Korea and his films get a lot of media attention when they are released. 3. Taken (2009) -Worldwide: $226,830,568 -South Korea: $15,471,329 -Domestic: $145,000,989 -United Kingdom: $11,275,928 -France: $9,430,887 Taken actually wasn't a Hollywood film, it was a French production and as I understand it, an attempt to globalize the French culture. A lot of effort, such as the use of English as the main language was involved in it's production. Taken had the misfortune of going up against <Bienvenue chez les ch'tis> the highest grossing french film and second highest grossing film all time in France's box office history with $193,764,365 gross so understandably, it ended up with a disappointing $9.4 million gross. Whether it was because of the father-daughter theme or because of the Liam Neeson effect, it managed a respectable total in South Korea overcoming the disadvantage of having a medium size chain as it's distributor. 4. The Island (2005) -Worldwide: $162,949,164 -Domestic: $35,818,913 -South Korea: $21,613,170 -Japan: $11,253,661 -France: $10,430,376 Surprise surprise, a Michael Bay film is popular in South Korea. Contrary to popular belief the love affair (or love-hate?) relationship between Bay and South Korea didn't start with the Transformers series but with The Island. The domestic number is close to a bomb and even Japan couldn't save it but it did surprisingly well in Korea and during a time when the box office was a lot smaller than it is now. 5. August Rush (2007) -Worldwide: $66,122,026 -Domestic: $31,664,162 -South Korea: $15,532,118 -Japan: $6,736,708 -United Kingdom: $1,563,734 August rush did considerably well in South Korea considering the poor numbers it posted elsewhere. The theme music along with a sorrowful love story is one that works wonders among Korean movie-goers. As seen with Frozen but also with Once, films that have a strong music theme seem to do very well here. I always wonder how much cultural elements can influence a movies success in one country compared to another. The About Time one stands out to me most, considering the british elements in the movie but the South Korean box office is double the U.K gross. Rsyu
Really interesting post. I always wonder how much cultural elements can influence a movies success in one country compared to another. The About Time one stands out to me most, considering the british elements in the movie but the South Korean box office is double the U.K gross. Yeah, I must also mention another film by the director richard curtis <love actually> which is almost a cultural phenomenon over here, being the subject of countless references and parodies. Koreans really love those kind of movies
Rsyu
TF4 numbers doesn't surprise me there because it's still in line with the other blockbusters. What surprised me was TF2 &3 numbers. You said TF4 dropped because of bad WOM but why did they embraced TF2 & 3 which IMO way worse than TF4? Evidently they had better WoM than TF4. TF1 and TF2 maintain a plus 8 rating on naver and TF3 had the advantage of being released not long after avatar so 3D had still a kind of event feel to it. This is shown by it's 3D+4D percentage of 52%. Conversely, TF4 has only 11.4% 3D+4D share. The absence of Shia LaBeouf and the casting of Mark Wahlberg, who is relatively unknown, was unpopular too (most people don't know what happened to him). Add to the fact that the general consensus that the storyline is weaker and the extremely long running time and people just seem to have lost interest (comparatively speaking for a transformers movie).
