Rsyu
With so many of HTTYD2's foreign markets being more frontloaded than pre-release expectations, it'll be good to (hopefully) see a market where the film is actually BACKloaded for a change. (The only other comparable markets are Australia and New Zealand, where it released before schools got out for winter break, and as soon as breaks started the sales jumped.)The per-screen average jumped even more, since it has less screens. I wouldn't call it backloaded just yet, it's having a good second week lets see if it can maintain it :)As for screens its pretty much yhe same number as OD (around 40 screens less) Edited August 1, 2014 by Rsyu
efialtes76
The 57% increase is in admissions not 133% But the movie increased 133% in admissions... 165k vs 71k
TalismanRing
Still hope 20m is reachable... Thor 2 made $21m and that got a boost from the first film and The Avengers so that might be too much to ask for.

Rsyu
I know you liked it but how is the WOM for roaring currents?Very good, much better than Kundo last week which recieved widespread criticism upon it's release. Prerelease ratings for roaring currents on naver was 8.62, nothing really special compared to many other films released this year (many anticipated hits start at 9+ pre-release) maybe because of the poor ratings it recieved from film critics (6.0/10.0). Upon release it started in the lower 8.0s and rose continuously throught the day to hit a high point of 8.97. Now it's slowly falling again (currently 8.91) and it will probably stabilize around 8.7-8.8 if the current trend continues. The social media response has been pretty lively too with many people praising the film (especially the battle scenes) online. I think the Korean audience was thirsty for a good local film, there hasn't been a really good one since January earlier this year (miss granny). tupek
And here in Mexico we can't have a lot of local juggernaut like South Korea (though last year we had a 15 million admission movie).

Rsyu
<Roaring currents> sailed past 1 million admissions today after just 37 hours according to KOFIC. It crossed it at around 13:30 today (local time). <Secretly, greatly> and <Snowpiercer> tied it for days but were a bit slower in time. It also beat Masquerade's record of highest admissions during a weekday (672,469)

Rsyu
South Korea monthly Box office (July) July Admissions and Gross: 3 year trend 2014 July Admissions: 19,862,156 -Foreign release: 9,639,711 -Local release: 10,222,445 Gross(KRW): 155.49 billion *1USD=~1030.70 won Jan-July total -116,370,414 admissions -897.31 Billion KRW 2013 July Admissions: 18,824,076 -Foreign release: 10,308,817 -local release: 8,515,259 Gross(KRW): 135.73 Billion Jan-July total -117,324,059 admissions -859.79 billion KRW 2012 July Admissions: 20,964,476 -Foreign release: 10,921,393 -Local release: 10,043,083 Gross(KRW): 154.86 Billion Jan-July total: -104,226,308 admissions -797.25 Billion KRW Transformers: Age of Extinction did close to half of it's total business in the month of July. Like Marmite, the division between the people who loved it and people who hated it were clearly divided, but regardless, for a normal movie it's numbers are still pretty great. Dawn of the planet of the apes benefited from changing it's theatrical release date to a week earlier and will be thankful they did considering Kundo's huge OW. It has taken a considerable hit with the release of GotG though. It should make it's way over 4 million admissions still (Kudos to fake for predicting that) but it's going to be less easier than I'd previously thought. How to train your dragon 2 had a pretty average OW, only slightly higher than the original but it's second week is really good, a sign that word of mouth is starting to spread for it. It even beat Kundo in daily admissions today by a large margin, something that was hard to imagine just last week. Current naver ratings for it is 9.17 the biggest demo being girls between the ages of 10 and 20. For local films, divine move was a surprise hit generating over 3.5 million admissions on the back of a strong opening week. 4 million admissions isn't going to happen but it's already performed better than expected. Kundo: Age of the rampant was the first of the "Big4" summer movies to be released and opened to large expectations largely failing to live up to the hype. As a result, the opening week was extremely big but it has wilted considerably in it's second week. Roaring currents opened just yesterday and unlike Kundo, the reaction has been generally positive with most of the people praising the naval battle scenes and Choi min-sik's acting as Admiral Yi Sun-sin. So far it looks the most likely film to win the summer. Overall admissions until the month of July 2014 are slightly under the figure for 2013. With Roaring currents and 2 more big local films set to spring during august, this gap could lessen by the end of next month. Now this is a bit unreliable as it doesn't differentiate between new releases and holdovers (new releases are likely to jump higher than holdovers) but this is the current trend for summer of 2014 (for convenience 06/20 onwards) monday: 1,974,970 tuesday: 1,944,135 wednesday: 3,462,392 thursday: 3,430,558 friday: 3,084,877 saturday: 6,168,302 sunday: 5,645,391 Monday and tuesday are the weakest days of the week. wednesday and thursday are strong because almost all films are released on those days. There's a big jump on saturday and a slight fall on sunday. The pattern is similar for 2013 too

Rsyu
just out from my guardians of the galaxy viewing. Audience size was pretty good, some spillover from roaring currents too I should think. The audience reaction was great too, lots of laughter and the tension in general was great. I hope this keeps hold on to it's screens because I can see this having good word of mouth. Naver rating at the moment is 8.93/10. Really enjoyed myself
