Olive
Monsters University broke the half-billion global mark on July 17, setting the stage for a weekend that only included one new opening. The film becomes Pixar's seventh consecutive title to surpass the $500 million mark. The Pixar prequel has held on well around the world and contributed another $20.7 million from overseas to reach a $283.9 million total outside of North America and a $532.9 million cume. The top overseas earners for Monsters U include Mexico ($37.4M), Japan ($34.4M), Australia ($21.2M), Argentina ($21.1M), Russia ($20.6M), Brazil ($16.1M), the U.K. ($13M), Spain ($12.6M), and Germany ($11.8M).

Fullbuster
Mexico and Argentina numbers are astonishing Particularly Argentina given its population is much smaller than in Mexico. Latin America is really a wonderful market for Hollywood movies, much more than China IMO.

zackzack
Economic crisis + Competition from DM2...MU has been unlucky on this one. Disney should take note that DM2 is pulling beyond the family crowd. The story of a super-villain trying to get a date appeals to the older audience hence the bigger numbers in all markets. Disney should not be resting on its laurels. I think Illumination has bigger plans ahead...

Fullbuster
DM 2 Mexico numbers are more astonishing! Not really, Mexico (114m people) is much more populated than Argentina (40m). With 114m inhabitants Argentina would gross about $60m.

I think Illumination has bigger plans ahead... No thank you, Pixar needs to remain like it is, it's why so many people love their movies. By the way Toy Story 3 is the highest-grossing animated movie with more than $1B WW, Despicable Me 2 is still far from it despite it benefits from bigger emerging markets and inflation. Heretic
Extremely disappointing in the UK. But it's still hot, so that's not helping. Holidays have started now though so I hope it rebounds. For Europe as a whole though, that's probably part of the reason grosses seem a bit muted. Amazing performance in Japan.

Tower
It's in Israel right? THat seems high Depends on how you look at it, but I don't think it's that that high, using my 2.2M projection and comparing to other Pixar films: TS3: 4.4M Up: 3.6M Ratatouille: 3.1M MU: 2.2M The Incredibles: 2.2M Wall-E: 1.9M Brave: 1.7M Cars 2: 1.5M So, right in the middle. If you compare it to other animations that have released so far this year, then it will finish behind DM2 and on par with The Croods, and well ahead of Epic .
