Frozen OS thread

1b before march is just mind boggling! o.O frozen continues to defy expectations. I wonder, frozen has already won annie awards&BAFTA, if it wins academy awards for original song and animation feature and goes on to beat TS3, will people consider this to be the greatest disney animation studios production ever? (I stop short of saying greatest animation period!)

Well I would say the general consensus greatest animation period at the moment would probably be the Lion King (considering critical acclaim and commercial success), which is also Disney so I would hesitate to make that statement. If Frozen can knock off TS3, pick up both oscars, continue to dominate the billboard 200 charts, and make a lot of noise at the next year's Grammys then the argument could be made. However, there is no way that Frozen will knock off TLK's gross adjusting for inflation and I doubt the soundtrack will get to Lion king levels (10 weeks at #1). But both are fantastic movies so I have no problem with those taking the top 2 spots!

Well adjusted for inflation "gone with the wind" would have both highest attendance and highest gross of all time, but I'd hesitate to label it as the most successful movie ever. While it is true movie gross rises with inflation, the fact that there are more movies to contend with nowadays has to be taken into consideration as well as a host of other factors. So its pretty difficult to compare gross of movies from different time periods. The same applies to the billboard. Back then there was no youtube so to fairly compare TLK and frozen OST you'd have to factor that into the equation too. Still I get where you're coming from and as a huge TLK fan myself I struggle to put either one first. TLK has a very strong message with "the circle of life" and while frozen gets alot of stick for its apparently "weak" story plot, I think it's message of embracing your inner weirdness and making it a special part of you resonates far more loudly with the audience of today. Still this is all just my opinion and I'm in no way forcing anyone to conform to my thoughts. Maybe it's enough to just accept they're both great movies :) Edited by Rsyu

It's quite sad not having Japanese members among us to know what people there think about it :( It's really strange not having Japanese people here. We have Portuguese members (Portugal = 10m inhabitants)), Spanish members (Spain : 47m inhabitants),Korean members (South Korea = 50m inhabitants) and even from Finland (5m inhabitants) but nobody from Japan, a developed country with 127m inhabitants where English learning is compulsory...It's quite mysterious, the only explanation IMO would be their English skills, notoriously bad.

Im so happy that Frozen's doing great WW. I have been a fan of Disney since Lion King. A little disappointed that the movie was shown in my country (Viet Nam) in just one month. How tragic! Now i really really want to watch Frozen again. Waiting for the blu-ray  :D

Yesterday, I asked one of my friends in Japan (we went to music school at the University of Illinois together, so his English is best out of those I know in Japan) about the level of anticipation over there, and he says he'll ask around with people more familiar with it and let me know. But judging by his FB statuses this morning, seems like he's since found the movie online and has fallen in love with it, particularly the music.

I haven't got any numbers, but according to The Swedish Film Institute Frozen kept the top spot in attendance here (Sweden) this weekend, despite The Lego Movie and Monuments Men premiering. So, it's obviously still doing rather well (or the Lego Movie is totally tanking).

frozen tue box office # in SK80,094 daily attendanceTot:9.11m attendanceWhich translates to around 68.5m USD10M attendance is looking good, not so sure for 11M attendance.

It just needs drops in the mid-30s % to get there, which has always been the lowend for Frozen. Or late legs in South Korea are that bad?
