Weekend Actuals 9/14-9/16 RE 21.1m Nemo 16.7m

Recommended Posts

The biggest day-and-date VOD and theatrical launch in history.

So how many times has this been done before and where do you find the stats on it? Even if it didn't open on VOD the opening in theaters is still quite impressive.

Despite adding +55 theaters, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (IMAX EXCL.) dropped -77% in its 2nd weekend.

They added the wrong theaters. People were willing to watch it in IMAX. Plus it was on tv all weekend. All 3 movies.

I believe they have done it with several releases including Margin Call. You can probably look up which releases have been day-and-date as opposed to those being released On demand before the theatrical release. But yes, definitely impressive regardless. From Deadline http://www.deadline.com/2012/09/resident-evil-retribution-box-office-finding-nemo-3d/"Finally, I’d be remiss not to mention Roadside Attractions’ and Lionsgate’s Arbitrage for the biggest U.S. opening ever for a film debuting in both movie theaters and On Demand — and by a wide margin.  Because it made $2M this weekend on only 197 screens for a per screen average of $10.5K. The Richard Gere starrer written and directed by Nicholas Jarecki had Roadside boss Howard Cohen kvelling to me. Amd the film also is #2 on iTunes overall and #1 in both Drama and Thriller categories."From THR http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-scientology-master-resident-evil-370578"Arbitrage had a great Friday as well, averaging $3,054 per screen on 197 screens for a $601,638 gross -- basically the same per-screen average Margin Call had on its 56-screen opening. The film is on track to be the biggest opening of a theatrical-and-VOD release. For the full weekend, Arbitrage took in $2.1 million, for a per-screen average of $10,505." Edited by Clavius
