alee7915
Thanks to China. The Hobbit : the Desolation of Smaug now ranked No.2 at Worldwide Box Office with $33.1M ($32.7M from China). http://www.rentrak.com/section/movies_and_tv_everywhere/top_entertainment_rankings.html#
A Marvel Fanboy
To be noted, DoS $32.7m 198M RMB is also the new biggest 3-days OW for a Hollywood film, topping Fast Six 183m RMB. -------- 2014 already seems to be an interesting to follow at the China box office. So far, it has proved to be a strong year for both Chinese and Hollywood movies without a major misfire. Even As the Light Goes Out probably didnt loose money when HongKong market and all steams considered. Fantastic start for local films thus far nevertheless. Unlike in 2013, which is a slow year for Hollywood with the soft debut of Skyfall in January, in 2014 DM2, Jack Ryan, Frozen and now DoS, all first revenue sharing Hollywood quotas have been very successful. Next: Robocop ------- 2.28 The Family ----- 3.7 ---- buyout Free Birds ------- 3.7 ---- buyout Need for Speed ----- 3.14 Snowpiercer ----- 3.15 The Monuments Men ----- TBD Mr. Peabody & Sherman ----- TBD The Secret Life of Walter Mitty ----- TBD Captain America 2 ---- April Amazing Spiderman 2 ---- April Transcendence ---- April Local productions will be relatively quite until late April. peludo
Could this help The Hobbit reach 1B? No. It needs a bigger surprise from Japan, what I do not think it will happen. It will land in 960-970 range

stripe
$70m-$80m. That would mean worse legs than AUJ... So 940M WW without Japan's gross, right?
mfantin65
How much can DOS gross after this opening? Could this help The Hobbit reach 1B?AUJ multiplier 2.72 brings DOS close to 90. Slightly better legs: 100m.Japan will need to to do 37 - 47m. Very possible

A Marvel Fanboy
So with revised report, DoS just slightly edged out Pacific Rim's biggest OD record (57m) for a WB movie, now only behind IM3, TF3 and Titanic 3D among foreign releases. As mentioned above, DoS 201m 3-days OW take is also a new record among Hollywood films. Through Sunday, Frozen sits at 246m, BLS 328m. Monday seems soft.
