peludo
Interesting! How much do you think Minions will do in China this year? Edit: and KFP3 beating FF7 would be what 300 million? Wow! If I do remember well, people who know the market here are saying $150m for Minions. Relative to KFP3, same people are saying it could reach $100m OD. F7 did about $390m. Some predictions for KFP3 are as high as $500m. Absurd numbers.

Oh wow - if KFP3 does these numbers (say 400 million in China), maybe it can beat Frozen WW! and become highest all time in animation! Not probable, IMHO. I see more probable that China > US + rest of countries.

Gokai Red
Can someone explain to me why the predictions for KFP3 are so high? I thought many local films would be released during the Chinese New Year week, and take a lot of screens from it?

KFP3 itself is a local film .... like The Great Wall, official co-productions are considered local films in China.
sgchn40
I am surprised that even with major hits like MH and TMK, the theatres are only around 50% to 60% full on average. Is this normal? Edited July 19, 2015 by sgchn40

Olive
How far can Monster Hunt go. Can it gross 1.5B Competitions are fairly weak in next two weeks, I think 1.5B is well locked for it. JBM will break 1B easily too. Two black horses in one week.
Olive
And TMK will dethrone KFP2's all-time animation record before Minions invading. Big year for animations in China. Boonie Bears, BH6, DORAEMON and TMK all crossed 300M yuan. At the moment, I think TMK will march to 800M yuan, Minions will beat it even it opens against T5 and Pixels.

MinaTakla
Curious to see how much MI5, Minions and TG5 will do in China. Heard Tom Cruise is so beloved there. Not so sure if TG5 will be big there though...
A Marvel Fanboy
I am surprised that even with major hits like MH and TMK, the theatres are only around 50% to 60% full on average. Is this normal? Yes. It is impossible to sell out every seat. Normally, it is considered very good if matinee shows are 10~20% packed on average, meaning big 200m+ single day. In fact, if every seat of the 28k+ halls is sold throughout the day, single day gross will reach 750m yuan with more than 20m admissions.
