Post Truth numbers have been underwhelming. I was hoping it would at least beat Suzume but it seems that is not to be. They should have just went with the original 31 Dec release date and leave things to chance.

Why did Stampede did better than RED? Did it have something to do with Covid lockdowns?

Also, I find it weird that Dragon Ball Broly or Super Heroes are not there or Pokemon.. Why is that? (Like was DB not popular in China or Pokemon?)

RED was released when 30% screens were available in important cities like Shanghai were in restrictions & Beijing aren't available. Japanese Film gross more on Tier 1 Cities and Tier 2 &3 are not significant at all, because those region watch only Chinese Films. Without Beijing &Shanghai, No Japanese Film can earn decent money in China.

 

Where as, DBS &Pokemon are not popular with the folk culture there. And that's why for years, I have been telling people that USA &China are polar opposites markets for Japanese Film. Critics recommend works on China &Aggressive Fan Following works on USA. &That's the reason why Studio try hard to get a Chinese Release rather than US release, as if things go well then CBO>>JBO like in the case of Hello World &Doraemon.
