"Cloud Atlas" poised for box office success

The highly-anticipated film "Cloud Atlas" is poised to throw "Skyfall" from its seat at the top of China's box office when it debuts here on Thursday, online polls showed Wednesday.

"Cloud Atlas" had attracted more than 8,300 votes at mtime.com and another 1,800 at m1905.com as of Wednesday morning, making it the most anticipated film among Chinese moviegoers.

After debuting on Jan. 21 in the Chinese mainland, "Skyfall," the latest installment in the James Bond series, came out on top in the week ending Jan. 27. It raked in about 224 million yuan (about 36 million US dollars) in Chinese theaters, accounting for more than 56 percent of ticket sales that week.

The domestic cartoon hit "Pleasant Goat and the Big, Big Wolf" came in behind "Skyfall," with 63 million yuan, while "Bring Happiness Home," a domestic comedy, came in third with 43 million yuan.

I think Skyfall was also affected by piracy because dvd copies even here in the philippines are even available before china release date

Cloud Atlas opened to excellent RMB 16M (about $2.5M in US$).

Local animation film Roco kingdom:the desire of dragon opened with RMB 12M.

Skyfall fell to third place with RMB 11M, cume now above RMB 279M $44.7M.

Another local fantasy kids film Balala the Fairies opened RMB 8.5M.

Guess what ? It seems after 40 mins cut, Cloud Atlas gets better wom than Skyfall. Well, at least for now according to major Chinese movie sites and Weibo.

Quite a few openers.....So I guess Skyfall grossed around 60m For Mon-Thurs. Maybe another 50m for Fri-Sun. So around 110m week (-50%). 330m cume.With 50m next week and 20m the next, it should finish its run with 400m.And good opening for CA. Should do around 80m 4-day and 200m total ($32m).That would be more than its entire domestic gross!

GA,GA,GA. if GA is so enamoured with TH why is it the least attended of Middle Earth movies? LOTR obviously kicked its ass big freakin time. As did movies released this year such as TA and Skyfall and, domesticlaly, THG and TDKR.

Good. May it completely collapse in China. If Skyfall, a legit great movie that doesn`t get "GA loves it" excuses even though GA obviously love it much more than TH, can`t pass Shriekapoo than may TH flop completely in China.
