You need a subscription to read this article and I don't have one but two things - a) Hollywood studios share in China is  25% of the gross and 2) China has imposed some new tax that Hollywood hates and there is a big dispute going on.

Twentieth Century Fox is refusing to accept about $23 million it is owed on Chinese box-office receipts for producing "Life of Pi" as a result of a clash between Hollywood and Chinese authorities, studio executives say.

 

The dispute centers on a new value-added tax that China is in the process of imposing on a wide range of goods and services. When it comes to movie tickets, state-owned distributor China Film Group has recently sought to deduct the cost of the tax entirely from foreign producers' share of the box office, said several people involved in international film distribution.

It says So Young OD 45m yuan.

 

That is huge:

biggest Friday opening, bigger than MIB3 (May 25) 42M.

biggest OD for a 2D local movie

 

Expecting Fri-Sun opening to be at least 140M.

 

140 + 280 + 120 + 60 +30 = 630M total ? Hmm ...

Revised to 46.5M OD.

 

Yeah no one here cares about it it seems. But it is one of the biggest releases of the year. And for that reason, its run deservers a watch. So called market analysis ...  :ph34r:

 

Many movies that I dont even want to see were reported.

About IM3 release schedule:

 

Copies:

IMAX 3D / 3D / 2D; 2K Digital

 

Release time:

May 1th 00:01am ~ June 09th 24:00pm. 

40 days / 6 weeks. That is one week longer than normal foreign release. And should have no problem to have an extended run if it still can solid business in its 6th week.

Cinemas have been waiting for IM3 opening date for more than week to do their schedules and promotions over next week. And now they can do it. Presales have begun. Let's see how many midnight shows and how many screens it can get on May 1.
