Yeah early reviews for SW7 don't look good. Same criticism as seen in the US tho, such as an ANH ripoff, thin characters and average visuals and action.

No offence to fans of SW. I think Chinese audience are being more perceptive about the quality of SW7

Where was their perceptiveness when the prequels came out, though? They are rated much too high.

I think a reason is that the story is harder to get behind for the average Chinese moviegoer. The character motivations and key moments hinge on knowing who Han and Luke are, and their importance.

Mr Six is overrated. it is a good film but nothing masterpiece like some Doubaners are gushing about. though with such great hokds, a finish close to 1B is possible, looks like zero weekend to weekend drop.

 

 I really have had enough of those Beijing/Northern tone...

 

Northern tone 2015 films: Wolf Totam, JBM, GML, MrSix

Southern tone 2015 films: Maocao, MH, LiHK, Detective Chinatown

the latters are better ...

20 days before Kung Fu Panda 3 comes into the picture. Not sure about any local movie that can pose a close challenge in the period. A Zhang Ziyi rom-com seems to opening around then.  I think 200-300m USD is a fair enough estimate. TFA will likely be front-loaded from the hype and drop considerably IMO.
