Friday Estimates:

SW7: 14.4M/713M

The Walk: 12.9m/13m

Inside or Outside 11M OD

Saturday Showtimes:

The Walk 16.9%

Inside or Outside 13.3%

Kung fu Panda 13.2%

SW7 11.3%

Bonnie Bears 11%

Poor numbers across the board thanks to bad weather, and Saturday won't turn better, KFP3 should claim #1 easily.

Interesting showtimes, even though SW7 is making more than Walk and Inside or Outside.

PLF screens are taken by KFP3 in the afternoon, thus the big drop in showtimes for SW7

Please bear with the quote as I am not sure how to make it collapsed (esp on a mobile phone). I find the second article fascinating. Particularly this statement:

“When non-Chinese see Chinese films, they want something they can’t easily see in their home countries. Not, say, a romantic comedy, of which there’s an ample supply in the American marketplace,” said Janet Yang, a Los Angeles-based veteran go-between in the rising Pacific Rim movie trade and a producer of the modern urban fish-out-of-water comedy Shanghai Calling, a bilingual film that Yang said was “marginalized” by the U.S. market. “When audiences can’t entirely relate to the characters, what’s the point?”

It's contradicting that in the first place, Americans want to see something they cannot easily see at home and yet movies can be marginalised when the audience cannot entirely relate... What a fine line to walk!

The bottom line is Foreign films have never done well in the US. We are spoiled for a century by high production budgets.  The sound quality, cinematography, WW locations and special effects have been superior historically. Foreign films have really improved and I enjoy many films from many countries these days. Howver, watching dub or sub is not a proper theater experience for the vast majority of domestic. I like it, but then again I still watch black and white and silent.

It was marginalized just like any great French, Italian or Japanese film has been over the decades and many other countries recently.

A common statement I hear. Ill wait for the English remake. Look at the success of the Netflix show House of Cards. Its a remake of a british TV show. They dubbed the first Mad Max form Australian to American accents. Just the way it is.
