A Marvel Fanboy
I understand that the government is stupid, but are the people as well? OW will be surely hit, but hopefully in the long run people will show up for both. However it does kill the repeat viewings I guess. TDKR should still be good for 75m.Great legs are not easy to have in a frontloading market.
A Marvel Fanboy
Is the face-off scheduling gonna continue into 2013 as well? We could see another set of potential 100M grossers missing the mark if they are released against each other - Skyfall and TH1. I am afraid so. Skyfall probably will be released in Feb. with TH according to insiders from China Films. TE2 might be the last big Hollywood movie in 2012. TBL is basically dead. Obviously the 34 quote for foreign movies is not fully used.

vc2002
Some audience are stupid. Needless to say. They want to see a movie doesnot necessarily mean they know it well. One does not simply mistake TDKR for TASM without having an IQ lower than 50. And people that dumb are not "average audience". The key taget audience for both films are clearly young males, and in this era even for those who dont play much on the internet, it's practically impossible for someone to not know at least one difference between TDKR and TASM.Even if people that dumb do exist, they are very rare(probably can only be found in mental hospitals) and shouldn't be considered as a factor in terms of boxoffice prediction. Here you are messing average audience with diehard fans. Even with crazy anticipation, TA or any other movie can not do 1B without picking up average movie goers, not even close."Being crazily anticipated" and "being unable to pick up average movie goers" do not co-exist. If average audience dont buy, then they are not that popular at all. Edited August 25, 2012 by vc2002

I might agree with this ... But still I would say, there are tons of people that do not know superhero movies well and they could think TDKR and TASM look the same though they do know these are two different heroes. Then how the hell will any of the two be able to break 100m, if they both are so damn unknown that "ton of people" think they look the same? You see, you just said something that's completely opposite to your "both can easily do $100m" theory. Average audience can be attached after release. -- And, are the Twilight movies crazy anticipated ? Do average audience care about them ? Twilight movies are crazily anticipated among its huge fanbase, but not for average audience. In China, we know for sure thatTDKR is highly anticipated on the internet, but not sure about in real life. And if "tons of people" think it looks the same as TASM, we can be damn sure it's not anticipated in real life at all.
