if oppenheimer made more than 25m in the market i'd be shocked, big action franchises which used to print 9 figures with ease now can't do half of that, a 3 hour drama has no shot

I have a feeling they are through the super hero/action blockbusters. But something that is different could do better relatively. I am not talking grossing similar to Interstellar for sure.

Oppenheimer confirmed will release in China, waiting for the release date

Am very surprised; just came out of the Singapore premiere and.. really surprised that this can be allowed to show in China. The R-Rated scenes aside, the whole movie was talking about something else which I thought would be quite sensitive to China.

Maybe it cuts some plot but I don’t know.

Avatar will still be most popular HLW series in China in future(Avengers take the 2nd place). But won’t have any record or any “Wow that’s insane” performance.

Time has changed ,believe it or not, less than 3 HLW movies will able to cross $100m every year after 2023.

We really done with Hollywood.

This kind of market downturn is remarkable. Blockbuster grosses in China are the fad that came and went.

I wonder when Ghibil films will be doing more than Hollywood Movies - Suzume doing 2x of MI7 is genuine wild and yes it's genuinely speaks how tastes has moved - though people here strangely admire Hollywood WOM run instead of Local Film WOM numbers which is absolutely wrong.

Only for Hollywood.Local film is thrive.

Yes, but this is interesting. How much of it is underwhelming product, but still hard to imagine a comparable scenario happening so quickly in any other major market.

Do people cringe in retrospect at the Hollywood blockbusters they were going out to support before?

You can take the example of how quickly Nokia fall in phone market.

People changed fast at internet era.One day even movie itself maybe abandon by market let alone HLW movie

This is “fast”era ,everything is fast,time change,public interest change…

Under current WOM,seems Barbie is going to beat Mission Impossible VII in China.

Transformers had 6.0 in Duoban and still managed to get like 90M over there... can it be that they hate watch movies? haha
