Just to know, when is this freaking 1.5M-per-day trend going to end for DM2? Cause it was supposed to be around MU level, but it seems it's easily headed for 50M+.

Maybe for another week, a bunch of new  releases during Chinese New year holiday should slow it down.

DM2 has already beaten MU, it will pass $50M easily,60M is likely.

Part of reasons why DM2 is doing so well is because Universal really market it well.

A lot of TV spot I saw and many tie-ins around(like McDonald ect..) 

Not normal for a HLW movie.

And most importantly, kids and adults dig the minions..

I just read the news about how some cinema chains in China are under-reporting ticket sales to dodge film taxes and giving less revenue to distributors.  And now the authorities are tackling this by issuing a new standard and all ticketing software must be upgraded and all cinemas must be connected to the national digital ticketing platform by May 1st, 2014 http://variety.com/2014/biz/news/china-to-tackle-box-office-fraud-1201067664/.

 

What I find most interesting is that China's box office revenue is reported at US$3.6 billion in 2013, but the actual figure should be significantly higher because of these un-reported revenue.

 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/chinese-authorities-tighten-rules-box-673425:

 

 

Official box office data for last year shows sales of $3.6 billion, with domestic movies taking $2.12 billion of that, a rise of 54.3 percent for homegrown films.

 

However, industry experts believe that real box office sales are at least 10 percent more

 

So China's real box office revenue in 2013 should be around US$4 billion or higher, if not due to these un-reported revenue by some cinema chains?

I found something about the censorship in China and The Walking Dead TV Show. It's both funny and terrible

 

 

Censorship Officials Really Enjoying Third Season of The Walking Dead

BEIJING — It’s no surprise that China’s top censorship officials have become loyal followers of American television shows. Every week, in a private screening room in the basement of the Ministry of Culture, they watch with bated breath the latest installment of each popular TV series before issuing a blanket ban on its propagation within the Chinese mainland.

Top of the bill this week was AMC’s The Walking Dead, new episodes of which premiered in the United States last weekend. The episode drew a record turnout in the main screening room, with over 400 ministry officials, as well as members of the National People’s Congress and the State Council, in attendance, many in costume as favorite characters or zombies.

State censorship officials, many committed fans of the show, list elements such as the gritty realism, well-developed characters, heart-stopping action and coherent, layered narrative all as reasons why The Walking Dead is one of the best things on television, and therefore must be kept from mainstream Chinese audiences at all costs.
