So essentially FF7 has a chance to be pulled down while being the #1 movie of the day still (sorry Chappie, I just don't think the love for robots will save you).

 

What I'm astounded by is seemingly there is no longer the need to "shelter" local movies with Jurassic World now slated for June 10th as well.  Has the government decided it is all alright now?

i'm glad to here that but i do not think Asian actors can get big role in hollywood blockbuster. it's just a small role. 

Ex : Fan Bingbing get very short time on screen in X-Men : DOFP

However, Small role is better than no role

YTD box office of all foreign films through May 3 is about 6B.

 

Assuming:

 

F7 rest run ----- 120m

Home rest run ----- 80m

 

Chappie ----- 120m

AOU ----- 2000m

Tomorrowland + San Andreas ----- 700m

Insurgent ----- 100m

Jurassic World ----- 2000m

MI5 ------- 1500m

 

Terminator: Genisys ----- 1000m

The Fantastic Four ----- 500m

Inside Out ----- 300m

Minions ----- 600m

 

Ant-Man ------ 700m

Autobahn ----- 300m

Pixels ------ 150m

Maze Runner: TST --- 250m

Hitman: Agent 47 -----  250m

Spectre ----- 700m

The Walk ----- 300m

 

So that's 6B + 11.7B + 1B other smaller titles = less than 19B box office of all imported films in 2015, meaning 42~45% (less than 50%) foreign market share.

 

19B/45B=42.2%.

19B/42B=45.2%

That's over 320M. 7 days to go till the movie is released in China.

I wouldn't take this as a good news if I were you, more like another over-estimation.

 

AOU would be lucky to get anywhere close to 300m let alone surpassing it. The movie has no appeal to the older generation unlike FF7.

But it's super difficult to make 150M+ yuan on a work day, TF4 made a bit over 30M on a Friday
