The average ticket price in China could go up to 10 $ in next 5 years. If there are 1b yearly admissions, it will be a 10B $ market, just as big as The States now.

I know... the box office is so exciting in China. Even a mediocre film now seems guaranteed $20m from that market. Even if the distributors don't get a lot back, the addition to the WW box office even if mostly symbolic is powerful. Edited February 24, 2012 by rockNrollaDIM

That's because most Chinese people are still too poor now, per capita GDP is about $5,000.China's film market will be maintaining high growth in the next twenty years. 50B would be in the range.

Just imagine the potential for OS movies...The 50/50 split days will be over for good... As they almost are today for blockbusters

What movies can do great in China in 2012? Amazing Spider-Man is definitely one of them I think and can reach 70-100 range. The Hobbit is another with similar numbers

TASM, Battleshhip, MIB3, IA4, Skyfall should all do well over 90M.

I don't want to sound ignorant but how do people survive off $3,500 per year? Are prices of food/goods cheap enough in USD, are they taken care of by government...? I don't know alot about China.

We should consider purchasing power parity.About 9,500$ in 2011.
