Weekend Estimates (Jan 4-6 2013)

Recommended Posts

About 5.50€ for students and 6.50€ for adults. Add 2.20€ to each one and you get the price of a 3D ticket. Those prices are considered extremely expensive by everyone because they say they can watch it for free. Everyone I know doesn't go to the movies more than 2 or 3 times a year and much less buy DVDs. We had 6 months without Universal Home Releases. And I won't be surprised if movies stop being edited here on DVD.

Tsk tsk. Just sad.

It's better to watch movies in theaters. It's more exciting - especially with a filled room of around 300-400seats. It's more interesting than watching a movie alone. I don't know... I hate watching movies at home, but since I have no other choice.. -.-

It is... It's quite impressive. I mean theater averages in Romania can reach up to $15k-$30K which is very, very impressive considering that a movie ticket costs around 5$, compared to the US.The only disadvantage is that there are very few screens. I mean in Romania there are around 21 screen in the whole country... If there were more (100-200) the money would flow easier. That's why Europe is doing so shitty - they lack of theaters. No, there is no other form of entertainment that could possibly challenge this. (Other than games as John stated, but that's for douches, and we don't care about douches)

wait, you mean the whole country with 23 millions population has only 21 screens ?

21 screens? Wow. I'm surprised. Manila has more than that and that's just one city. What is your population?

Agree! I'm really surprised with this, I never knew that was the case for some European countries. Edited by forg

I said a few posts later. I actually meant theaters, not screens (that adds up to way more screens than that, but still not enough for a 19mil population...)Just imagine that over 15% of the population of Romania is barely surviving from a day to another. They have houses without electricity, water and heat... Sad what the world has become. Edited by ChD

How about your local movies? Here, every now and then the local movies hit it big. I may not like them all but I like seeing long lines in theaters because it keeps the industry alive and well

We still have a lot of theaters here but they are all in the malls :D I think that's a factor why moviegoing is still strong here despite us being a 3rd world country we Filipino love going to the malls and there's a mall in all major cities here ;) .

There are few standalone theaters left but they mostly show low-rent soft core porn stuff with scary things going when the lights go off lol

Ha ha. Not anymore. Remember when we lent IMF $1 B last year to help Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy? ;)

We are just one level before investment grade.

Our tourism is expanding, with many magazines including us in their top 10 places this year.

Construction is booming.

The Peso is very strong.

The PSEi is in record high level.

Our economy is one of the best performing ones in the world. GDP grew by 6% +.

This is still far I know, but we are predicted to be the 16th biggest economy in the world. This really makes me smile all the time.

Romanian local movies are actually doing great... some of them box office wise, only a few award wise. I mean we have this years Beyond the hills who, last time, was on Oscar shortlist for Best Foreign Picture. We also a few years back, from the same director (Beyond the Hills), 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days, which also got nominated only for Best Foreign Film by Golden Globes, and most critics think that It would've deserved an Oscar nomination. Both movies also won numerous prizes at the Cannes Festival.4Months, 3 weeks and 2 days: Won palme d'or, FIPRESCI Prize, Cinema Prize of the French National Education System at Cannes, and Beyond the Hills won Best Actress and best Screenplay and was nominated for Palme D'or. Local movies are dead. Plain and simply. This year we actually had to big local movies, but it is the first time that happens. Those were also the two biggest portuguese movies since December 2007... since then until August 30 (day the first of the two big portuguese movies was released) everything bombed hard. And we won't have a year like this again for local movies ever.

I missed some stuff so let me recap myself.....If someone hates Perks then I HATE YOU, love football, love seeing the cinema busy as well, where I live every time i'm at a mall I always make sure to walk by the theater to check out the lines and posters. Plus If I been in that movie theater location I try to determine how a movie is doing at the location by seeing what screen its on because then I know if its in a big or small theater. I love the movie theater

More than Romania's ever going to have.

We seriously love going to the malls. I guess this roots from having a disadvantaged economy before. Like it's one of the cheapest ways to at least have fun either by yourself or with the family. It saddens and surprises me that this kind of fun rarely happens in some countries.
