85th Academy Awards (24/2/13) Official Thread- TONIGHT!! NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST

Recommended Posts

Doubt it.

It won't. Most of the pictures have grossed more than 100 million. SLP ZDT and LoP still can as well. So 7/9 nominees over 100 million, and 3 or more about 150 million is pretty goddamn good for the academy. And ratings went up last year despite what people said about the indie nominees. The saddest part about the possibily of Weinstein winning for an okay movie the third time in a row is that he had truly great movies (The Master, Django Unchained) that will likely go unrewarded.#TeamLincoln

I would like your post, but I can't agree with the Team Lincoln sentiment. ;)I guess based on nominations I would have to go with Django, but I still have to see Zero Dark Thirty, Holy Motors, Cloud Atlas, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Amour, etc.

What a fucking joke, apparently ZDT, Argo, Django made themselves. Bigger morons that vote for the Academy or for baseball's HOF?

Well at least Academy will vote and give us winners unlike the morons that elected no one to the baseball HOF.

Does anyone think that Affleck and Bigelow cancelled each other out? Both directed thematically similar movies. So I guess they split votes allowing other directors to get in.Leo, SLJ and Bardem totally cancelled each other out. 3 villains, 1 spot, 0 noms.

I think people were cautious about Bigelow because of controversy but I'm not sure about Affleck. Maybe some don't take him seriously? Like how Ron Howard won the DGA for Apollo 13 but couldn't get an Oscar nomination?

4 of the nominees have already grossed $100M+. Life of Pi is almost there. SLP and ZDT will get close, if not make it. What are you talking about?

I think when all is said and done 7 films will be above 100 million. And of those Django, Les Mis, and Lincoln will be above 150 million. That is so much better than what the Academy normally does.

Again. WHO THE FUCK IS BEN ZEITLIN? I need to see this movie, so I can bash the fuck out of this nomination.

Out of that line-up I personally think he deserves to win. He's young/first time filmmaker, so this is a good way for him to kick start a career.

He's done three solid films now, it'd be really sad if people didn't take him seriously as a filmmaker.

Bigelow's chances went down the hill with controversy with ZDT. Affleck is the real shocker.

But it`s similarity of their movies that make me think it`s a vote split rather than some anti-torture, anti-women, anti-sexy star-turned-sexy director agenda. It makes sense. I mena, one can explain Bigelow snub citing other factors (Backlash over the gimmick win, present controversy) but Affleck? If anything, he was supposed to capitalize on ZDT backlash. So it`s a vote split.
