Eh, Bigelow's won an Oscar and Affleck will get his at some point, so while I'm surprised, I'm not totally bummed. Nice to see the spots go to Haneke and Zeitlin.

I tried watching AMOUR this morning but my sick boy has discovered that his favorite game is going to the PS3 and hitting "eject". I made it about 30 min in before I decided to hold off until I'm not dealing with him. (Those 30 min were good, though).

After seeing what I saw today at the nominations, I really start to doubt that Danie Day-Lewis is locked for winning Best Actor. I have a feeling that Cooper is going to win it.

I'd place Carax/Anderson/Johnson/Speilberg/Tarantino over Affleck but just barely. Haven't seen ZDT yet (tomorrow!).Guess I have to see Amour now. I like Haneke but two hours of old people dying just doesn't sound like fun.

Amour is amazing, it's a bit of a punch in the gut but amazing.

Yup. The more I think about it, the reception that Academy gave it becomes less surprising. It really hits very close to home for them.

I think that now that they just threw such a huge curveball with the nominations that the winners will be just as weird. I don't think I'll ever come to a set of winner predictions that I'll be completely happy with.

It's very crowd-pleasing but I thought it was one of his weaker movies, honestly.

Yes, Russell deserved his nom. And I think those 4 acting nominations got him there. (Though the academy are still idiots for snubbing PTA for the same reason). Also, is there ANYWHERE I can watch Amour legally?

Sure. I'll defend it like I defended him when some bad mouthed his nom for The Fighter. He deserves it for getting such wonderful performances out of the whole cast.
