Empire
Does anyone really think Iron Man 3 or Star Trek 2 were on the same level as The Avengers and The Dark Knight? If you're going to complain about big-budget tentpoles not getting their due, this isn't the year to do it. I think Star Trek 2 is better than The Avengers, but not TDK.
luna
don't really see how avengers can be considered in the upper echelon. it's just a big dumb fun blockbuster, whereas at least TDK *tried*, whether or not you think it actually achieved its goals.
Sims
To be fair the first Star Trek was much closer to a BP nom than Avengers ever was.
stripe
right now those are the 12 films I'm most confident about AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY NEBRASKA GRAVITY CAPTAIN PHILLIPS MONUMENTS MEN 12 YEARS A SLAVE FOXCATCHER SAVING MR BANKS AMERICAN HUSTLE THE COUNSELOR WOLFS OF WALL STREET DALLAS BUYERS CLUB
stripe
really doubt Gravity ends up in this list Why not? They like serious sci fi, they like lone survivor tales, and they like the two leads and the director. Hype is there already
mahnamahna
RT: 92%, 7.9/10 average rating Metacritic- 80 BFCA- 94/100 Yeah, definitely mediocre reviews The Reader and Benjamin Button still got less praise than TDK and WALL-E, just saying Sorry, I and 99.9% of Americans could care less about Frost/Nixon

fishstick
right now those are the 12 films I'm most confident about AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY NEBRASKA GRAVITY CAPTAIN PHILLIPS MONUMENTS MEN 12 YEARS A SLAVE FOXCATCHER SAVING MR BANKS AMERICAN HUSTLE THE COUNSELOR WOLFS OF WALL STREET DALLAS BUYERS CLUB I've no faith in 12 Years Slave. Lincoln and DU exhausted slavery trope last year so this will look reptitive and word is that it's good but not great. I also don't know why The Councelor is expected to be Oscar material except by Fassy fans. many of the movies on the list sound more like showcases for their leading men then actual BP potential. So off your list I'm backing A;OC, Gravity, WoWS (wozer trailer, best of the year by a landslide), Monuments Men, American Hustle.

fishstick
Too small. Blue Jasmine has a better shot (AMPAS loves Woody plus El Senor is sure-fire Best Hamtress nominee based on raves).

luna
llewyn davis? 3 of their last 4 directorial efforts have been nominated, plus this one's got really good reviews out of cannes...would have though this'd be be near the top of the list. this is the awards daily forum's top ten predictions (order most likely): 1. inside llewyn davis 2. august: osage country 3. the wolf of wall street 4. the monuments men 5. american hustle 6. fruitvale station 7. gravity 8. before midnight 9. all is lost 10. nebraska /// 12 years a slave Edited July 12, 2013 by lisa

The Academy never has enough with the themes they like the most Racism World War II Disabilities History+cinema And over the top they love + love + love films that showcases strong male leading stories.
