To show the developement of the new giants: the admissions in millions over the years

Posted Image

Funny to see how much bigger they have all been before the recent increases.

China comes from 29,300m admissions and Russia from 4,500m; compare that to 4,400m the highest for USA ever (1946) and 2,706m for India the current (2010) champion.

The one before the enlargement in 2004, see in this map.

Thank you.Data from seperate countries summed up as far back as 1950, although they became members only later. Our 12 new members would contribute about 87m admissions, which would still not be enough to match the USA (even if we deducted Canada). Those high European numbers in the 50s and 60s were mostly fired by local European production (I can lookup data if find enough): Förster vom Silberwald, La Grande vadrouille ,PANE, AMORE E FANTASIA and Thunderball are testimony to that. Only starting with the 70s (Jaws) did Hollywood realy overwhelm our cinemas. Edited by Rudolf

The USA and worldwide admissions for Thunderball and most other Bonds are here:http://moonrakerbond.../admissions.htmFrance should be available via Cine-directors and Germany since 68 at Insidekino.de

going through all the movies would be too much work, I hope to find time series statiscs like percentage of local production (how it changedover the decades).

Who loves John Carter (of Mars) most?

Posted Image

The theoretical values in million $ are the grosses of John Carter corrected for the Hollywood-Blockbuster-market size in each country. This size is determined by the sum of the 15 biggest Holllywood blockbusters of 2011 (local blockbuster are not taken into account) The table is sorted descending by this theoretical value. JC is the gross of John Carter in million $ in each country.

Russia and China top, 2 spanish-speaking, but DOM, Australia higher than expected, Europe + rest of Asia at the bottom

Thetheoretical values could be interpreted either what would have been America's gross with the same love for this movie or what would this country have grossed had it the same marketsize as America.
