  1. one already did: The Lorax but I am pessimistic for animated movies too
  2. THG has slighty worse weekdays than DH2 but much better weekends (spring<>summer) perhaps it can reach it, still $6m to go
  3. I can't help it these list look like charts to me. I think no one really knows how much this movies sold. All they have is weekly lists of how well a movie has done relative to the market. Then they compile these (giving score points or similar, christmas shopping gets more weight- what ever). A movie like AVATAR could have sold exceptional high numbers in a short time and just finishing outside the top 20 for a long time and thus scoring low chart values, while in reality having outsold all the others.
  4. How will it fare in Japan? If they see it as "cheap" Battle Royal, it will not do well.
  5. Concerning what animation movies for children will work we all have been terribly wrong at times. I doubt anyone has a perfect record of all successes and flops. Medieval settings, female heroes, dialect narrative: that could all be detrimental. But there are examples in the past that that need not be the case. At the moment I think Brave will do 225/400 DOM/OS with good European numbers. It all depends on how children and their accompanying parents see those puppett-caricatures. They remind me a little of Asterix (french comic), but does Brave have this multitude of well drawn characters? The only thing we know is that it is about a rebelling princess. The Atalanta mythos comes to mind.
  6. In Quebec Intouchables only had a few cinemas and $325 909 OW (http://www.cinoche.com/actualites/box-office-quebecois-folies-de-graduation-la-reunion-devant-intouchables/index.html)That was 2nd in French-Canada, would have been 18th DOM (BOM did not report it)
  7. What happened to WB (Happy Feet) and Par.(Rango)? Are they out of the game?
  8. I can't help it: for me she looks on drugs
  9. Yes; but it would be a shame, if people would miss this beautiful movie just because they refused it seeing it as an "Uncle Tom" movie, because race is not an important issue of the movie.
  10. A movie that pretends to be about greek mythology and has its highest international grosses in Russia, Mexico and Brazil is funny. 300 almost had 10 times the gross in greece.
  11. Concerning Euro 2012:From june 8th until June 15th there are 2 matches aday one early in the evening and one late at night. After that movies have some time to breath. Until june 24th everyday late at night and after that till july 1st but not every night.
  12. Sequels will likely increase as they always do, but there is no book phenomenon.
  13. In this article http://boxofficeintouchables.unblog.fr/2012/03/23/box-office-russie-%E2%80%93-un-triste-record-pour-intouchables/ they say that the French movie Intouchables is the most illegaly watched foreign movie in Russia at the moment. Studios should have learned their lesson and become quicker to release these movies.
  14. In Spain Intouchables has defeated the BattleShip in its 6th week http://boxofficeinto...-la-1ere-place/It seems it had to settle for 2nd in the end.
  15. Why not open it in April? Ok bad weekdays, but good weekends and no competition.
  16. Tianic 3D opened on Tuesday in China. Probably it is rare.
  17. The Russians have 6 cases and only 3 tenses, we have 6 tenses and 4 cases. ;)German is also very particular about the order of words.
  18. I tryed to use Google to translate text into a language I know and correct it afterwards. It turns out to be more work that translating it from scratch. Best way to use it: translate from a language you are not fluent enough into your native language and then guess what it really means.
  19. I think those coproductions are a good idea. First the profits are distributed more fairly, then foreign places and actors get more lime light. "We are not (exclusevly) in Kansas anymore"
  20. It took CJohn about 2 minutes to come up with a Google translation. Terrible english but understandable. But it is also a nice way to study a language. You can compare the Google translated text with the original phrase by phrase (you should be able to read kyrillic in this case). You find that the Russian word for weekend is uikend, clearly borrowed from the English. The French also borrowed it (ne ce pas?). The German word is Wochenende as we can very easily form compound nouns.
