  1. Oh and I forgot to add, Argo was sold out and savages was just sort of there.
  2. Saw skyfall today in Seoul and the cinema probably had 150 enpty seats
  3. The way I look at these films they are hard to compare in this way as they were aiming towards different things.Marking TDKR down for lack of humour is not saying its a bad film as comedy was not an intention barring the odd line.Same with TA and emotion. This was the start of a trilogy as opposed to the end where questions such as 'will everyone survive' become part of the last chapter. TA can't exactly kill of Hulk or Thor in part one, It's why Iron Man's sacrifice can't be compared to Batman's - because we know Iron Man is making another film whereas Bale might not be.Overall it comes down to one factor for me:TA tried to be a fun big-budget event movie where we see stars of numerous films come together for fun, japes and fights.TA pulled this off perfectly.TDKR tried to be the deepest superhero movie ever with a hero coming to terms with his mortality, villains that have total control over a city and everything coming against him to the point where it has to be an act of ultimate heroism and perhaps sacrifice to succeed.TDKR pulled this off commendably but not brilliantly, let alone perfectly in my eyes. Therefore TA is the better film. But if TDKR had managed to get it all spot on, it could have been the greatest film of all time. Instead it is just a very good film thats not quite as good as it's predecessor or the other big comic book move of 2012.
  4. Maybe we need to have an A+ list.Because you can't compare somebody like Will Smith who can make exactly 0 films in two years and remain in the A list compared to somebody like Tatum who is huge now, but if he took a multi year break tomorrow would be having to start from scratch upon his return again.Actors such as Schwarzenegger, Smith, Hanks, Cruise, Pitt can essentially retire from acting for 5 years and still be a smash hit draw on their comeback film.Other A listers who are big in the box office right now and could command huge salaries for years to come will still never fill that bracket. Even a Bale or Wahlberg would need a film or two in a supporting role to bring themselves back into the headliner role.
  5. Acting TA - 9 TDKR - 9 Hard to split, both had stand out performances in this respect. Action TA - 9 TDKR - 8 I edge it to TA because even though both films have slowe starts, I remember the open 30 mins of TDKR being dull unlike with TA where it is forgotton. Ambition TA - 10 TDKR - 10 Both perfect scores for different reasons. TDKR for what happens in the film, TA for existing in the first place. Cinematography TA - 9 TDKR - 9 Not an expert in this so give both 9 and move on Dialogue TA - 10 TDKR - 7 TDKR felt a little preachy in place and as a person with a hearing defect, I had to read the KOrean Subtitles to follow what he said at times. TA had exactly what a blockbuster action film should have and the one liners were great. Emotion TA - 5 TDKR - 9 TA wasn't really built for emotion, that will be something to judge better in TA3 when potentially somer Avengers could get killed off in a final final battle. TDKR has Michael Caine, that just means it wins. Humor TA - 10 TDKR - 3 One is a semi-comedy, the other isn't. End of there. Score TA - 7 TDKR - 7 Didn't notice memorable music in either. Script TA - 9 TDKR - 7 Again back to the preachy vs fun aspect. Villains TA - 7 TDKR - 6 The legitimacy of the villain in TDKR was destroyed in the final third for me and never really existed in TA to begin with. TA was never about the villains though, that's again something for the sequels. TOTAL TA - 85/100 TDKR - 75/100
  6. Which genre is best enhanced by the cinema experience? There are many great films in my DVD collection that I probably would not watch in the cinema. Things like Schindler's List or Green Mile for instance. For me I like to go to the cinema for one of 3 reasons (well 3 film-based reasons at least)1) It's something like Matrix or Titanic where the SFX require cinema viewing.2) It's comedy. Any half decent comedy would trump a fantastically acclaimed drama for me as far as seeing it in the cinema.3) Horror, Who doesn't think horror is better with a shit scared audience all around you?Thoughts?
  7. Wow, would not have guessed Pinocchio winning the Disney battle (again unless Jungle book or something I have completely unforeseen surprises me).
  8. I would put Eye in the top ten, but for me it is one of those odd scenarios where something can be a dead cert top 10, but absolutely not number 1.I am amzed though that unless the Bare Neccessities appears out of nowhere that nothing disney made the top 10 it seems.
  9. I have a bad feeling Eye of the tiger is winning this...
  10. I disagree. I took this very seriously and the songs in South Park took the movie to another level. They may have vulgar lyrics, but Matt and Trey are actually gret musical writers and know exactly how to make a song fit perfectly into its place and impact of a film. That for me placed most of the South Park song s high on my list as the songs were a primary reason that I enjoyed the film so much and that to me is worth a much higher place on a list such as this than a good song I like that also is used in a good movie I like.
  11. I'm schocked that we're not in the top 30 yet and both Aladdin and Lion King are pretty much spent (barring the one song that I still think could get top spot.)
  12. I will hopefully soon watch a decent number of these so that I can form an opinion. The one thing that springs to mind is that now they have made 12 films, considering the franchise title, surely they are duty bound to make a 13th?
  13. I expect it all to be over by the time I wake up at what i believe will be around 9pm Disney time.Don't suppose we can persuade him to post the results at 5am Eastern time?
  14. The problem SK has though is that filmmakers are screwed when the cinema release ends. THere is next to no secondary income from DVD sales and the like.So when a film like Masquerade makes $70M at the boxoffice, it will still barely make it past $90 or $100M in total revenue (unless it breaks out in a foreign market.A Korean film will never be saved by the DVD release like Hollywood and European films can be. In fact I think most Korean films sell more DVD copies in the UK than they do in Korea (I have no proof of this final statement though )

  20. I bought the DVD from Amazon (but I think it can also be found chopped up on Youtube also). Any website that sells the crazy weird Japanese films like the above will sell it I expect.
