  1. Go Avengers! It's less than a million away from passing The Dark Knight now.
  2. I find it hilarious that the only Batman film to have made more money OS than DOM is Batman & Robin (thank you, Arnie!). I doubt TDKR will break that trend.
  3. BB has to be the most overrated superhero movie ever. It's a solid film, don't get me wrong, but the demystifying of Batman, lack of a clear villain and Katie freakin' Holmes really drag it down for me. TDK is also flawed, but at least its much more ambitious and not as dull. IM1 is fun but inconsequential and SM2 is great but has way too much goofy stuff. XM:FC would be a masterpiece if the rest of the movie lived up to the Charles-Eric-Mystique relationship. So that leaves Avengers as the only one of these I can enjoy all the way through with only minor reservations.
  4. One of my most fun experiences at the movies. Pretty much the perfect B movie and proof that you can make an exploitation film without insulting the audience's intelligence. Shame the Weinstein's abandoned the sequel.
  5. Me the last 4 Fridays: TA had a crappy increase, it's not gonna pass $600 million :angry:Saturday: Whew! :)I'm really surprised how far my cinema is off from the national B.O. though. TA beat MiB yesterday (at least in no. of tickets sold) and SW had a huge drop from Friday.
  6. Interesting that the top 3 movies of all-time are the work of writer-directors. Proof that Hollywood would do better trusting their blockbusters to a singular filmmaker's vision rather than the too many cooks that usually work on tentpole movies.Anyway, here's my rankings:1. Return of the King2. Toy Story 33. Titanic4. The Avengers5. The Dark Knight6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II7. Avatar8. The Phantom Menace9. Dead Man's Chest10. Alice in WonderlandHaven't seen OST and DOM doesn't even deserve a ranking
  7. Marvel does not have to get the rights back to use Spider-Man in an Avengers movie. Disney could make a deal like they did on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where they were allowed to use WB and other studio's cartoons under certain conditions. If ASM underperforms, it's even more likely Sony would make a deal like this to increase Spidey's profile before they can make a sequel.
  8. Avengers dropped 69%!? Damn, it may not even cross 50 million now
  9. I thought this was the Avengers vs Deathly Hallows topic, but I'll give it a shot:1. Fear of Padme and his unborn child dying, and Palpy being the only one who can save her.2. Jealousy of Obi-Wan (it's hinted he thinks there might be an affair going on between him and Padme)3. Craving more power and believes the council are holding him back4. Belief that the Jedi are corrupt and Palpy is the only one who can bring peace to the galaxy.5. Anakin is kind of a douche.
  10. Avengers is a family movie too. Even more so, in fact.
  11. I think my top two are:Jurassic Park (15+ times)The Phantom Menace (12+ times)Nowdays no films gets more than 2-3 viewings from me. Last one to get more was ROTS.
  12. The correct answer is 1982. Although most of the best movies of that year (The Thing, Blade Runner) were disappointments at the box office. Close runners-up would be 77, 84, 89 and 97).
  13. I vote TA for the same reason I voted for ROTS in the other topic. It's a complete movie where you can enjoy the story even if you haven't seen the films preceeding it. The other Marvel movies explain some things in TA, but they're not essential the way the preceeding Potters are to DH II.Aside from that, as good as DH II is, I can't think of anything great about it that doesn't come from the book. The epic story and characters that JK wrote are the reason the film is so satisying. Yate's direction is pedestrian, the acting (aside from the superb Rickman) is just ok and the score (aside from the too little re-use of Williams' theme) is unmemorable. With the Avengers, Whedon and the cast added a lot more than was in the comic. The beautifully shot action and terrific humour and character interaction elevated what could have been just a ho-hum superhero story.
  14. Deathly Hallows 2 had better acting and dialogue, but I think ROTS was superior in every other respect. It also feels like a complete movie. You can understand Anakin's journey and see the friendship between him and Obi-Wan even if you haven't watched TPM or AOTC. DH II doesn't make a lick of sense if you haven't at least watched the first part (and most of the other Potters).
  15. So where does everyone think Avengers will end up on the all-time UK box office chart? I'm hoping it can get to at least 52 million pounds (which should be good for #15 all-time, I believe). Pretty amazing considering superhero movies are a lot less popular in the UK than the US. Dark Knight "only" did 49.1 million by comparison.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if TA goes up with finals. It actually sold more tickets at my theatre during the day Saturday and Sunday than MiB3 (though obviously grossed less because it was on one 3D screen vs four 3D screens for the latter).
