  1. How does Universal still have the rights to namir wheb they never made a fuckibg Namie novie? Doesnt make any sense!
  2. Predator 2 is very underrated. The final 10 minutes alone are better than any Predator or Alien film that came after.
  3. Don't see the PG-13 rating hurting it personally, especially when it seems it only got that for scariness. If my kids can handle Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, etc. they should have no problem with this.
  4. Well the Guardian liked it: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/sep/26/miss-peregrines-home-for-peculiar-children-review-mordant-british-ya-x-men-is-tim-burtons-best-in-20-years
  5. Has anyone even seen this yet? It comes out in 7 days and I haven't heard a single thing about it, good or bad. With Burton, reviews can go either way but I'll go see it regardless.
  6. If this does finally get made my kids are going to want to see it at least 5 times at the cinema. I think the biggest challenge with the plot is how do you keep the five nights format without straining credibility too much. Why would anyone keep going back to a place after being attacked by animatronics the first night? If I was writing it I'd have a group of teens stumble across Freddy's Pizzeria and have the security guard already dead or missing, so in essence you start with the fifth night. That way you can have the kids trapped there and have them unravel the history of the place while trying to escape alive.
  7. I think that's part of the reason we don't really have cult movies that only become hits on home video anymore. There were tons of movies in the 80's and 90's that flopped or disappointed theatrically but then gained a huge audience on VHS and then later DVD. But with the loss of Blockbuster style rental chains and a multitude of streaming platforms, it's difficult for any one movie to stand out these days and gain a big cult following after its initial release. Hmm, think I might make a topic about the death of the cult movie . . .
  8. Great list Tele. I consider myself a pretty serious film buff but have only seen around 38 of these Guess I got some serious watching to do
  9. Pretty sad that Gerald Molen used to produce movies like Jurassic Park and Schindler's List and now he's doing crap like this.
  10. So that's why JJ and Disney never got a congratulations from Cameron for TFA passing Avatar domestic? It also looks from this interview that Cameron prefers Lucas' films (including the prequels) to TFA. I actually have a new respect for him now.
  11. Finally put down my thoughts on BvS, Civil War and the dreaded "superhero fatigue". http://imaginary-cinema.blogspot.com/2016/06/captain-america-civil-war-and-superhero.html
  12. Twilight and Transformers are the only two blockbuster franchises that have never had a fresh movie on RT. By the ancient law of geek culture, that means they must be cast into the flames of hell
  13. The Island is his best movie, IMO. Very underrated. It'll be very interesting to see if The Last Knight can hit a billion. If it drops domestically like AOE, it won't reach $200m. With big drops in other developed countries, even China won't be enough to make up the difference WW.
  14. Just imagine if there was a sequel to Batman Returns that contained all the surreal imagery and psychological depth that made Burton’s movies great, but married to a slightly more coherent and focused plot. It could still happen (Keaton said he's open to playing the role again), but unfortunately the perfect plot for a belated third movie (a loose adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns) can’t be used because TDKR and BvS have already pilfered the best parts of that story. I’m still kinda pissed that TDKR had Bruce Wayne retiring (way too young) and living happily ever after with Selina Kyle (who he only just met). That should have been the conclusion of Keaton’s Batman story, not Bale’s. If I was writing a third part to Burton's trilogy (it's my dream, don't laugh) I’d make it about Batman taking on one last case – trying to catch the Scarecrow who has escaped from Arkham Asylum and is bumping off notable Gothamites one by one. I’d finally bring in Robin (who’s a girl) as his sidekick and wrap up all the dangling plot threads such as how did Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent become Two-Face, what happened to Selina and most importantly where did all those penguins go after their boss died? Keaton deserves one last turn in the Bat costume and since it would take place outside of the regular DC continuity the story could go to some really weird and scary places without pissing off Bat purists. Okay, they’d still be pissed off, but it would be an awesome movie.
  15. Just realised almost three years later that I predicted DOS' WW box office exactly
  16. I'm not really a DC fan (aside from Bats and Supes, don't really care about any of their characters) but even I'm frustrated that, aside from the Nolan films (which have plenty of story problems, too, but are at least well made) they haven't been able to release a good film based on a DC character since 1992. If I was in charge, here's two things I'd do to save DC films: Bring back Michael Keaton as an older Batman in a murder mystery movie where he has to figure out which member of his rogues gallery is bumping off important Gothamites (yes, we'd finally get to see Batman do some actual detective work). Have Robin or another young hero partner with him and then at the end of the movie Bruce retires and passes the torch. Boom! Instant new franchise. Reveal that the Superman in MOS and BvS was actually under the influence of Black Kyrptonite (hence his being such a douche), allowing them to bring in the real Superman for JL
  17. So like Cinerama? Cool. I would have loved to have seen 2001 in the original three screen format.
  18. Except back when BR came out even movies with "mixed" receptions could get almost a 4x multi. It would be fascinating to see the reactions from critics and audiences if BR came out now. It doesn't have any of the crowdpleasing elements of modern superhero movies, but it also has more artistic vision and depth in one scene than most comic book movies released in the last 10 years have in their whole running time.
  19. I really liked this. Probably my 4th favourite QT film after Dogs, Pulp and Basterds. The Thing homages were nicely done and the 70mm print was beautiful, scratches and all. I can understand some of the claims of misogyny against the film but overall I thought the film was very on point, especially the way it directly comments on present day issues such as BlackLivesMatter and gun control through a period setting.
  20. Seeing this in 70mm today and I'm stoked. Shame about the box office so far. I'm guessing Pitt, Foxx and DiCaprio had a lot more to do with the success of Tarantino's last two films than people realize. Wonder what H8 would have opened to if it had starred Jennifer Lawrence as originally planned?
  21. Avatar is the Frampton Comes Alive of blu-rays. Everyone owns a copy but no one knows why. I bought the blu-ray when it first came out and have never watched it.
  22. The trailer makes it look like a prequel/ripoff to The Host. Not a good sign . . .
  23. Doubt it. TFA is only beating Titanic with 18 years of inflation + 3D. Attendance wise Titanic is still going to be way ahead of both, even if TFA gets close to $1b.
