Sully will probably open between 19-20m and leg it out to 75-80m, Eastwood's name still has some pull. When the Bough Breaks might give it a run on opening weekend though.
There is a good chance that SS loses number one next weekend to Don't Breathe. Regaining it again on Labor Day Weekend, before finally losing it for good to either Sully or When the Bough Breaks.
ikr. 17.5m is alot to pay for an indie movie. Fox Searchlight is a specialty studio, whose films live and die by critical reviews and awards season. They were hoping this would be another 12YAS, making around 50-60m. We'll have to see how the reviews out of TIFF turn out;
Its going to get released in theaters. Fortunately, there is more than one film starring POC that could factor in the awards season this year. Fences was already named but also Hidden Figures, Loving, Lion, Moonlight, Queen of Katwe, and A United Kingdom
His co-writer and friend was convicted of the crime, Parker got acquitted. They both raped her, im not sure how Parker got off but thats what happened.
It certainly seems like it's still coming out this December. Maybe the trailer is coming with Mag 7. That would be that latest they could release it and still be ok as far as marketing. Then you could play the trailer in front of all the adult oriented films in the fall which is likely the core audience for this anyways.
Ghostbusters didn't break even. It needs about 360m in order to do that and right now it's struggling to make 100m overseas. Sony already reported that they are taking a 70m loss on it.
However, Sausage Party and Don't Breathe should end the summer on a high note for them. Also The Shallows and Angry Birds were decent hits. Interestingly enough Money Monster did ok too (92m WW)
I think so, no competition for family films, besides Moana, which will have been in theaters for a month already.
Illumination's biggest non-summer hit.
220-230m
Ghostbusters is actually performing like a moderate summer comedy hit, the problem is that it had a tentpole budget. There really was no reason for that considering Melissa Mccarthy doesnt have that much overseas appeal and neither does the Ghostbusters brand. Pixels was made for only 88m, and that should have been the bar for this.
Star Trek Beyond just had a tough release date, Bourne and then Suicide Squad back to back is brutal. Paramount should have given it some space from those films, July 8 would have been good.
Not getting a CHina release. Thats going to affect OS numbers. What are the predictions now for that?
