  1. Has a much better ring to it than Oscar nominee Fifty Shades of Grey
  2. Youll be the first to be executed under Supreme Leader Villeneuve's Order 66.
  3. How do you feel about this being snubbed by critics and the guilds in favor of La La Land, Manchester By the Sea, and Hell or High water?
  4. So Moonlight has about 2 showtimes a day for a few days in a theater about 40 minutes from where I am staying. Manchester by the Sea is also playing around me, so I will for sure catch that one before the 30th. Tomorrow might be my only chance to catch Moonlight, because Fences will likely replace it there. Trying to decide if it'll be worth it or not.
  5. We should also remember that just because Moana isn't doing Frozen numbers doesn't mean it isn't a large success for Disney. They had three large tentpoles to market in 2 months, and all of them are successes.
  6. Honestly, if you're comparing this movie to the Artist or Birdman then I'd question if you've even actually seen it. Parts of it are homages to golden age Hollywood, but if anything it's more critical of Hollywood then praising it. The movie's a genuine crowdpleaser and actually entertaining, as well as an absolute visual marvel. I guess it's just cool to hate the "it" movie in the guilds.
  7. Lol, you can think whatever you want to think. We obviously saw two different movies.
  8. While parts of the movie can be seen as a throwback, the entirety of it is something new entirely. The immaculate moving energy of the entire work is more than enough to qualify for the word refreshing. The cinematography is gorgeous and unique, it etches itself into your memory. The movie is less a tribute to the Hollywood Golden Age and more of a tribute to Jazz, the city of L.A., and a take on those relationships that may not last but "life you off the ground" and take you in the direction you need to go. The movie does a great job at taking what's familiar and using that to mold something new entirely. I'd say it's definitely a memorable standout for the year. Maybe the movie wasn't your taste, that's fine, not every movie is. But if somebody walks out of the movie saying they've seen it all before, I'd call BS on that.
  9. I think the problem with video game movies is that 1.Story is typically secondary, and when it's not, it's typically an interactive kind of story. 2.A lot of the charm in the story of games like Elder Scrolls, Legend of Zelda and Warcraft is the expansive universe, and discovering it for yourself. The lore is really fun, but you can't really cram what makes some of those games great into a two hour movie. 3.Most studios try to do a direct adaption of a 40 hour+ video game and fit it into a two hour movie. If they really want to make a good video game movie then they need to do an original story in the universe. 4.95% of video games (even if they're great games) just aren't going to translate well into a movie, even with the best talent involved. The material just doesn't adapt well. It's probably possible to make a solid video game movie, I just don't think anybody in Hollywood has really figured out how, nor do I think it's really worth the investment to figure that out. At best, I think some video games (might) be able to translate into a solid TV Show, but even then I'd probably recommend letting games stay games.
  10. What I'm trying to say is that I really think we should just acknowledge that the people in the film industry are normal people, with a lot of spotlight, and thus stop judging them for every little thing. I don't know Jennifer Lawrence, I only see (some) of her interviews and movies. I have no idea if she's fake, or a perfectly nice person, nor should I really care. The only time I really care is if it's a Nate Parker type of case, where I'd be supporting somebody who got away with rape. I think it's fine to discuss different individuals based on the merits of their trade, but why discuss how good/bad a person is who you've never even met (unless they're an elected official, which in that case you can argue that it matters that you know)?
  11. Or maybe she's just a person who's successful at her career, and we shouldn't scrutinize the personas of our movie stars like we do (or should do) to our politicians.
  12. Deadpool The rest are generic tentpoles with nothing of substance to provide

  14. Why? I think it'd do fine then, it's solid countermarketing to Episode 8. It should be solid for around 120m or so with a Christmas release. It's all of those others that probably need to move (besides maybe Jumanji as an alternative family appeal)
  15. I'm thinking Star Wars had a muted discount Tuesday similar to why TFA (and other big blockbusters like JW) had one last year. Enough people were already going to see it anyways, so the discount just took off from the sales. That will probably make sense as to why Wednesday's drop won't be too bad.
  16. Id think of Ethan as a unicycle. When he goes to hang out, he's the only wheel.
  17. Seriously though, Best Forum Thread/Best Forum (Non) Event coming back is the only one I really care about having.
  18. Also maybe add Best Genre Film (Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror) And/or Best Action Film (instead of best use of action) Those are popular categories with Critic awards.
  19. I don't think there should be a supporting voice performance, just open it up to MoCap. Theres not enough vocal performances to really support 10 great nominees
