  9. Screendaily: The Dark Knight Rises stays top internationally on $67m Warner Bros Pictures International’s crime saga was active in 58 markets over the weekend and has reached $378.4m. According to the distributor the weekend session means The Dark Knight Rises is 31% ahead of The Dark Knight at the same stage of release based on 2008 exchange rates, rising to 49% ahead of its predecessor based on current exchange rates. However WBPI did not provide an inflation-adjusted comparison. The UK led the holdovers as $6.8m (£4.3m) boosted the tally to $63.9m (£40.9m) after three weekends, followed by France on $6.1m (€5m) for $20.5m (€16.8m) after two. Mexico generated $5.5m (Ps 72.7m) in the second weekend for a $20.8m (Ps 281m) running total and Germany produced $5.3m (€4.4m) for $20.8m (€17m) after the same timeframe. The Dark Knight has added $5.3m (KRW 6bn) in South Korea for $35.8m (KRW 41bn) after three, $4.6m (R$9.4m) in Brazil for $15.2m (R$31m) after two and $4.4m (A$4.2m) in Australia for $33.7m A$32.8m) after three. Ice Age 4 has amassed an astonishing $27.9m in Argentina after six to consolidate its status as the biggest industry release in history. It has grossed $27.2m in Australia after the same timeframe. Stefan vs Kramer, the first local title distributed by Fox Chile, scored the biggest opening weekend in history on $2.2m from 109 screens. Prometheus opened top in Spain on $4.4m from 782 for the biggest launch of the year-to-date and 50% market share. [*]Universal Pictures International’s Ted took a giant significant stride towards the $100m mark in a terrific session that brought in $32m from 2,380 sites in 20 territories to boost the early international running total of $77.3m The adult comedy opened in ten territories led by the UK where, despite a historic victory for tennis star Andy Murray and other Olympic Games distractions, the film mustered a mighty $14.3m (£9.1m) from 508 theatres to claim gold at the local box office. This was Universal’s third biggest launch in the market behind Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and King Kong. Germany’s number one debut generated $7.4m from 449 for Universal’s best opening so far in 2012. Ted pulled off the biggest Hollywood comedy launch in Russia on $5.5m from 630 and debuted in Austria on an excellent $1.5m from 76. Snow White And The Huntsman stands at $234.9m, while Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax has grossed $117.7m and Laika Entertainment’s Animation’s ParaNorman went out in its first market anywhere in the world, Mexico. Laika’s follow-up to Coraline ranked second on $2.3m from 531 sites and fared better than Coraline. ParaNorman will open next in Colombia and Peru, day-and-date with North America on Aug 16. Step Up Revolution, which Universal releases in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France, Switzerland and Latin America, kicked off in Australia, New Zealand and Trinidad this weekend for $2.3m from 253. It opened in third place in Australia on $1.9m from 198. Universal is distributing What To Expect When You’re Expecting in Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Latin America and the early tally stands at $3.4m after the film arrived in Brazil on $750,000 from 171 sites. [*]Paramount Pictures International (PPI) reported that DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3 added $15.8m from 2,745 cinemas in 44 countries for $312m after nine weeks. The biggest debut came from Japan on $4.5m from 302 cinemas. There were impressive debuts also in Poland and Hong Kong on $2m from 131 sites and $1.2m from 60 cinemas, respectively. Madagascar 3 added $1.5m in the second weekend in Spain, however PPI did not provide a running total. Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator grossed $1.1m from 880 sites in 29 territories as the tally climbed to $108m. Katy Perry: Part Of Me stands at $5.9m. [*]The Total Recall reboot grossed $6.2m through Sony Pictures Releasing International from an initial wave of 12 markets. The sci-fi thriller opened top in Taiwan on $1.3m from 150 screens and top in Malaysia on $1m from 130. The Amazing Spider-Man has reached $427.1m thanks to a $6.1m session from 6,660 screens in 79 markets. The superhero reboot has generated $39.1m in the UK after five weekends, $37.9m in Japan after six, $29.4m in Brazil after five, $28.2m in Mexico after five and $21m in France after five. [*]Step Up Revolution brought in $7.9m from 20 markets where Lionsgate licensed rights, pushing the early running total for the independent production to $17.5m. [*]Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International reported that Pixar’s Brave grossed $2.9m from 2,110 sites for an early $118m international running total after seven weeks in release. The studio had not returned emails at time of writing to provide individual territory updates.

The worldwide tally stands at $537.1m. The Dark Knight Rises opened in France on $11.3m (€9.3m) from 892 screens including previews and took $9.9m (€8.2m) in Germany. Both results included previews. The film arrived in Mexico on $9.8m (Ps 133.4m) from 1,141 screens, Russia on $8.7m (Rbl 285.5m) from 1,310 screens, Brazil on $6.6m (R13.4m) from 931 screens and Saturday opener Japan on $6m (¥460.7m) including previews. The UK led the second weekend holdovers on $10.6m (£6.8m) from 598 for $47m (£30.2m), followed by South Korea on $6.7m (KRW 7.6bn) from 796 screens for $27.2m (KRW 31.2bn), Australia on $7.8m (A$7.6m) from 628 screens for $27.5m (A$26.8m) and Spain on $2.2m (€1.8m) from 610 screens for $8.6m (€7.1m). Fox International reported that Ice Age 4 added $49.4m for $514.1m, boosted by a $15.7m number one launch in China and $3.1m in South Korea from 501 for third place and Fox’s biggest animated launch. Ice Age 4 scored the biggest debut in history for an animated film in India, where it opened in second place on $1.5m from 238. The latest Blue Sky Studios smash stands at $47.7m in Germany after four weekends and $42.7m in Mexico and $42.3m in France, both after five. Ice Age 4 has amassed $40.9m in Russia after three, $40.8m in Brazil after five, $39.2m in the UK after three and $26.7m in Australia after five. Latin America continues to be a rewarding region this summer and the film has grossed $26.4m in Argentina after five and opened strongly in Venezuela on $1.5m from 138. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter stands at $34.5m, Prometheus $179.7m and Bol Bachchan $27.5m after four extraordinary weekends in India. [*]Sony Pictures Releasing International’s The Amazing Spider Man crossed $400m on Thursday (26) and added a further $12.2m from 86 markets over the weekend to reach $412.5m. The superhero saga added $1.5m in its fourth weekend in Brazil for $27.9m and stands at $37.2m in the UK after the same length of time. Japan has generated $37.3m after five, Mexico $27.2m after four and Russia $21.6m after five. Two notable Latin American results are worth noting: Spidey has spun $7.8m in Argentina and $6.2m in Venezuela, both after four sessions. [*]Universal Pictures International reported that Dr Seuss’s The Lorax brought in a further $5.7m in 13 territories to reach $110.3m and opened in the UK on $3m from 503 venues and China on $1.1m from 1,060. Ted added $2.7m from 10 for $44.1m and has amassed $32m after four weekends. Snow White And The Huntsman is at $232.2m and held firm at number one for the third consecutive weekend in Italy, where it stands at $8.3m. [*]Madagascar 3 added $6.6m through Paramount Pictures International in its eighth weekend for $291.5m. The DreamWorks Animation release opened top in Spain and Portugal on $2.6m from 395 sites and $1.1m from 67, respectively. Russia remains the top market on $48.7m and China has generated $31.5m. The film will soar past the $300m mark and is yet to open in the UK and Germany. The Dictator stands at $105.6m after 11 weekends in release and opens in Mexico and Brazil on Aug 24. [*]Step Up Revolution opened through Lionsgate in 10 territories including CIS day-and-date with North America, grossing $5.2m and opening at number one in Thailand.
  11. Screen Daily: The Dark Knight Rises opens in 17 markets on $88m UPDATE: Christopher Nolan’s trilogy finale drew 13m admissions from approximately 7,173 screens. This was a dazzling result for the Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures property, although Warner Bros brass have been wise to steer clear of any note of triumphalism in light of Friday’s deadly cinema attack in Colorado. Warner Bros Pictures International issued the numbers on Monday (23) after a day’s delay out of respect for the victims of the Aurora shootings. The Dark Knight Rises opened top in the UK on $22.5m from 594 venues including $1.57m from 19 IMAX screens and top in South Korea on $15.7m from 1,198 including $758,000 from 10 IMAX screens. The Batman film grossed $15.5m in a number one Australian launch on 631 screens, of which $659,000 came from five IMAX screens. It took $4.3m in Spain from 624 and $55,000 from two IMAX screens. IMAX accounted for $4.8m of the weekend total from 61 screens in 15 markets. Combined with the newly confirmed $160.9m North American launch, The Dark Knight Rises stands at approximately $248.9m worldwide and opens in a further 40 countries this week. Fox International confirmed that Ice Age: Continental Drift added $56.3m for $440.4m while The Amazing Spider-Man brought in $28m through Sony Pictures Releasing International to reach $384.5m. Fox International executives reported Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has reached $32.9m while Prometheus stands at $177.9m and Bol Bachchan $26.3m. Spidey was active on 13,093 screens and has reached $384.5m after four weekends, putting it within strike range of the $410.2m and $418m final tallies of Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man. For the record Spider-Man 3 amassed $554.3m. Adam Sandler comedy That’s My Boy added $2.8m for $7.3m while MIB 3 stands at $442.6m. 21 Jump Street has grossed $62.8m. Meanwhile Universal Pictures International’s R-rated comedy Ted added $4.7m from 492 sites in 10 territories as the early running total climbed to $39.5m. Snow White And The Huntsman added $4.1m from 2,925 in 46 for $228.5m and stayed top in the second weekend in Italy as $1.4m raised the tally to $6.8m. Paramount Pictures International confirmed that Madagascar 3 added $5.5m from 4,443 sites in 38 countries reported over the weekend for $282m, while The Dictator grossed $2.8m from 1,537 in 36 for $102.1m.
