Moviepass and its Impact on the Box Office
TLK replied to Eric the IF's topic in Box Office Discussion
The only sustainable cheap ticket plan is the one that has cinema chains and studios on board. Any third party that wants to come in the game will need huge investment from outside or otherwise math just doesn't add up. -

Fox has been making movies with cheap thrills with violence and gore longer than you have been alive. Blumhouse has done nothing new other than slashing budgets to bare minimum. -

One good thing about Solo is that they are not hiding it. The tracking may improve if it plays well at Cannes the week after next. -

The synopsis doesn't say anything about monsters though. It could be like The Abyss for all we know. I love movies like this and I hope they pull it off. -

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR | 1369.5 M overseas ● 2048.4 M worldwide
TLK replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
So $2 billion Worldwide is on the table. Right ? It needs to do about 40% better than AOU Worldwide and looks to be just behind that target at the moment. My current guess would be $1.85 billion assuming China goes under $300 million -

I'm a bit conflicted on IW beating the opening weekend record. $250 million seems nearly impossible for any non-Star Wars movie to break but there is an argument that TFA could've had an even bigger OW if it was opening on another weekend. Pre-Christmas weekend is always a bit depressed because of holiday shopping. -

Only 22% Monday-Tuesday jump compared to the rest of the movies with 80-120%. Tuesday-Wednesday jump is weak likewise. -

What will be the precedence for a small and original horror movie to open over $50 million? The first Conjuring movie had great hype and it opened to $42 million. Split opened to $40 million. That $40-42 million seems like a good target to me. -

Tarantino is not some obscure director. Just accept that people have different opinions of his work. My opinion is that Pulp Fiction is his masterwork and the quality of his work has steadily declined since then. Kill Bill 1/2 was his last really good film and Basterds was his last interesting work. Django is a boring mess and The Hateful Eight would've been laughed out of the theatres if he had released the movie under a pseudonym.

B+. The last scene is my favorite movie scene of the year but does anyone else think that Assayas used two diverging storylines at the end because I can't explain the hotel/elevator scene otherwise.

My take on CBMs is that there is no super hero fatigue among the people who watch it but at the same time these movies have peaked with bystanders. WW became a cultural event and may still fall short of $800 million. Logan did well but it didn't break out of the X-Men sandbox in terms of box office. GOTG2 had only a minor increase even after the last one generated massive goodwill. SMH is a breakout but it probably won't match Iron Man 3 despite Iron man being a part of the movie.
