    Angelina Jolie was attached to this for a long time but it seems like she has completely given up on acting. Edit - I want to add that Bill Condon is an inspired choice for this movie. Gods and Monsters is a must see movie for anyone who has any interest in Frankenstein movies.

    Any predictions for GITS ? It now needs China and Japan to come through with good numbers.

    Fury road had serious production issues which caused the budget to balloon up.

    Is the budget confirmed ? Blade Runner is a great movie but it was considered a financial failure. Who approved a $200 million budget for the sequel ?

    Wait for international numbers before completely burying GITS. It is underperforming big time domestically but $120 million + from China/Japan and South Korea can still save it.

    I think it will need Japan to go completely nuts to beat DH2. It can happen (Frozen).

    IMO, BATB is one of the very few Hollywood movies these days with the potential to make $100 million + from Japan.

    $1 billion is a lock with so many markets still to open.

    It would've passed La La Land's total in just 3 days with Josh Gad playing Belle. Emma Watson has been in a billion dollar movie before but she hasn't come anywhere close to winning an Oscar. She should fire the agent who convinced her to pick BATB over LLL.

    I feel sorry for Power Rangers. You don't want to open your movie the week after a $165 million opener.

    Logan will probably do $11 million + today. Deadline always underestimates holdovers for some reason.

    Visually impressive ? They must have done a good job of hiding that in the trailers I guess.

    It isn't breaking any new grounds but this trailer is so much better and interesting than the last one.

    Didn't they run a Super Bowl ad for ACFW ? Damn. That must have cost them more than they will make on the opening weekend.

    So this will make around $400 million WW (-30% from the first movie). Pretty good for a mid-budget movie but it isn't going to be the next Twilight/THG.

    $350 million is where I am at also but if it gets raves then all bets are off.

    I am glad that Shyamalan came back after a disastrous decade. He is a talented director when he is making smaller character driven movies instead of those big blockbusters.

    Meh. I have seen better visuals in car commercials.

    Ok but what about actresses ? I have always thought that Angelina Jolie would've been far less popular Worldwide (especially in Asia and South America) if she was a blonde.

    They should be pleased with the first movie but it was always going to be a long game considering they paid $4 billion + for Lucas Films and each film costs $400 million or so in production and Worldwide marketing. I'm not sure if Rogue One dropping 50% Worldwide and unable to take off in Asian/LA markets will make anyone happy. Remember that long-running action franchises make their profits from Asia and Latin America.

    Disney can't be happy with Star Wars under-performing big time in China so far. They will need China, other Asian and LA countries to increase when future SW movies inevitably start dropping in US and Europe. I know it isn't politically correct to say this but they dropped the ball big time by having both Star Wars movies centered around female characters. Most of the Hollywood blockbuster movie audience in Asian/LA countries is young and male. They just don't identify with female leads.

    What went wrong with A Monster Calls ? It has very good reviews, good cast and Focus Features knows how to open movies in limited release. $72,000 from 4 theaters in 10 days seems incredibly weak.

    Comparisons to TFA aren't fair but they are inevitable. A Star Wars movie released on the same day one year later. There is no way people won't make the comparison.

    Trailer looks good but it also looks more of the same. I am not sure if it will make more than Prometheus Worldwide.
